Hyderabad to Kolkata road trip in VW Polo by Prateik Roy in October 2020

Wishes for a safe and happy Durga Puja 2020 to all members of  IndianRoadie.

After rescheduling for couple of times finally completed my homecoming from Hyderabad to Kolkata (Hyderabad_Kolkata) in my evergreen and trustworthy VW Polo on 21st October 2020, " Laali" as I call her!

Weather was not very promising in Hyderabad over the last few weeks and after hearing from multiple fellow travelers about the road condition, didn't take any chance but carried all necessary precautions starting from complete puncture repair kit, long serving Tvs inflator, jumper kit, towing rope, 250 ml Mobil 15w-40 synthetic and VW specific pink coolant refill  (thanks to my ASC for that), wiper fluid refill, emergency utilities along with ample packaged water, food, ors, first aid and medicine..
Carried disposable plates, paper cups, cutlery, hot water flask with tea kit and a handy duffle consisting of all essentials for a  night halt.

Day-1 (20th Oct): 5:30AM- 4:20PM, 698kms-> Heavy rain continues in Hyd, route as usual ORR(exit- 11)-> NH65 -> Benz circle left turn onto NH16->via port road into  Vizag.
Stayed in Winsar Park as we planned to spend sometime by the beach to unwind.

Day-2 (21st Oct):  7:00AM-11:30PM, 852kms->started via Bheemli for a beautiful view by the beach stretch onto NH16->Barkul-> Bbsr-> Bhadrak-> Balasore-> Kharagpur bypass->Kolaghat->Home sweet home

Total Kms covered: 1550
Toll paid: 1953 inr
Tyre pressure : 34 F & 36 R psi
Fuel:~115 litres, refuelling only from COCO bunks.
On-road time: ~28 hrs

Roads are excellent till Vijaywada and then from Hanuman junction,AP starts the potholes stretch until Rajahmundry. After that road becomes better but you may be surprised by a sudden crater.
Be careful on port-road flyover incase you're entering Vizag city!!
Road until Bbsr from there is good and you can make up a lot of time , one needs to be mindful of stray cattles in entire OD stretch to avoid hits!!!
Again post Manguli toll plaza there are hell lot of diversions that will eat up your time.
Post Sergarh toll you need to cross a factory railway line and thery is very high chance of underbody hit if one is not careful.
Once you enter WB post that road is too good and due to puja all heavy vehicle movement is prohibited hence it's like a cake walk upto home in Salt Lake.

Out for a drive with Punyabrata in WNF3309, I played prank with him

I suppose it was in 1986. A St. Xavier's College classmate of mine, Punyabrata Biswas (Bablu) was learning to drive the launch model of a Maruti 800 which his mother had bought for family use. It was a beautiful brand new chocolate brown coloured car (WNF3309). We were out for a short spin to Gol Park in Kolkata in the evening. While returning to his house near Padmashri, Bablu stopped to treat Bijit Ghosh Dastidar (another classmate) and me to tasty rasogollas and samosas from a famous sweetmeat shop on S.C.Mullick Road at Ganguly Bagan Crossing.
After we were seated in the car for the final leg of drive back home, Bablu had to back up the car a bit to move ahead from parked position because of some obstruction on the front left hand side.
I was seated in the front passenger seat.
Everytime, Bablu engaged the reverse gear and struggled to look back, I shifted the lever to neutral position on the sly. The panic and frustration on Bablu's face after 5 - 6 attempts made Bijit and me laugh out loud 😅.
Sharmistha Biswas, can't recall if we have ever narrated this incident to you 😃.

Lucky escape for 22 bus passengers in Sirmaur district, HP on 2021-08-06

In a miraculous escape, as many as 22 people were rescued safely after a private bus skidded off the National Highway 707 in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh on Friday 06 August 2021.
The dramatic picture of the incident shows the bus hanging from the cliff. A total of 22 people were travelling at the time of the accident. The incident took place near the Bohrad Khad area in Shillai of Sirmaur district.
A technical snag reportedly damaged a tyre and caused the bus to slide. However, the driver showed the presence of mind by quickly applying brakes and managed to bring the bus to a stop before it went down.
The driver then quickly evacuated the bus, as per an eyewitness.

Extortionists on roads in Birbhum district in August 2021 are West Bengal Police personnel and local rogues

Blatant extortion of money by West Bengal Police (in uniform) and 'her favorite brothers' continues unabated everywhere in Birbhum district on National Highways, state highways and PWD roads, irrespective of whether it's day or night.
Even the private vehicle of TV journalists were compelled to pay illegal toll of ₹20 to cross a small bridge which has been declared unsafe.
Little wonders that 5 lakhs out of the 6 odd lakh trucks in West Bengal have stopped operating, not necessarily because of fuel price hike.
Police personnel and rogue extortionists resort to violence against those preferring to ignore their demands.
It's but obvious that whopping sums of money reach the top echelons of the rulers of the state.

'Indian Roadie Automotive Advertisements' coming soon from early August 2021

Coming soon from early August 2021 a series of 'Indian Roadie Automotive Advertisements' (ATL, BTL, OOH) from India and overseas.

It will be particularly useful to students and practitioners of the science and art of sales/ marketing/ communication management.

'Good Ad Bad Ad' is an initiative by Marketingpundit, the virtual space identity of Deep Banerjee (also the founder of Marketing Gyanology, Indian Roadie and associated forums)

Remaining 'High On Cognition' is the thin line between 'life' and 'getting maimed' (or worse still, death)

It's not without reason that 8 yrs ago in May 2013 when Indian Roadie was born, the positioning tagline from Day 1 has been 'High On Cognition'.

It's not a fancy phrase. I spoke to at least 20 odd senior marketing professionals spread over 12 - 15 days and all unanimously said that the tagline was apt and crisp.

It's only the 'cognitive powers/ abilities' of the driver and even the co-passengers to a great extent that more often than not is the thin line between 'life' and 'getting maimed' (or worse still, death) ☹️

Indian Roadie Hack to rectify sloppy throttle response in VW cars

Has anyone tried this hack to correct sloppy throttle response in their VW Vento or VW Polo or VW Ameo diesel car?
Sounds extremely interesting.
We wonder if this simple hack works in any of the other brands of cars available in India 🤔

Every post in Indian Roadie must have mention of exact date or month + year, wherever applicable

When you post something in Indian Roadie and/ or associated forums, please ensure that you don't write content without mention of ages. The content becomes meaningless with usage of words or phrases like today, tomorrow, yesterday, last Saturday, this month, next month, this year, next August, etc.

Exact date or month + year must be written.
As a roadie one can't be that casual. Greater involvement is needed from your end.

P.S: My teachers in school more than 45 years ago used to get furious if dates were not mentioned irrespective of the task being a homework or classwork. Their involvement decades ago has remained a part of my lifestyle ever since I walked out of the portals of my school in 1980.
Ufff  ..... what a fantastic lesson they taught me, far more valuable than all those 'work done = force x displacement', Macbeth, etc 🙏

Thank you Br. Brendan MacCarthaigh Sir and Francis Ambrose Sir who painstakingly embedded these basics in me 🙏

Early morning ride of 250 kms from Hyderabad towards Nagpur and back in KTM Duke 390 by Tanmoy Das on 2021-07-31

Starting from home in Gachibowli in Hyderabad, I was out on a solo early morning aimless ride under a cloud laden sky on NH44 towards Nagpur. This was on Saturday , 2021-07-31.
The total to and fro highway ride was for 250 kms.

Suddenly spotted the NHAI signage on NH44 which stated that Srinagar is only 2550 kms ahead.
I wish I could really make a dash for beautiful Patnitop, Srinagar, Sonmarg and Pahalgam in my smart new toy, viz. KTM Duke 390.

I am back home by 10 am and still dreaming of dhaba food, beautiful filling stations, smooth roads, winding mountain roads.
