Last diesel run double decker bus left Marol depot, Mumbai at 11 am on 2023-09-15

The first double-decker bus was introduced on Mumbai roads in 1937, a decade after BEST launched its bus service in the growing city. Till the mid-1990s, BEST had around 900 double-decker buses in its fleet. The number began to decrease and around 125 buses were left in 2010. By 2019, it had dwindled to 50.
The first double decker EV was rolled out on the roads of Mumbai (erstwhile, Bombay) in February 2023.
Unfortunately, the last diesel run double decker bus left Marol depot at 11 am on Friday, 2023-09-15.

Pune to Jabalpur road trip in 1 day

My drive from Pune to Jabalpur. I decided to head towards West Bengal via Nagpur-Jabalpur-Varanasi.

I was late starting from Hinjewadi, Pune. I started at 6:50am, took Nashik Phata via Pimple Saudagar, crossed moshi, chakan encountering the all the morning traffic and headed towards Sinnar..... Reached Samruddhi expressway before Sinnar at around 10:30, had breakfast at the just before the expressway entry.... After that, nothing much to say till 4:30pm, as we had only one task, just press the accelerator..... It's very difficult to hold back crossing 120kmph... Checked for fuel in the 2 HP petrol pumps after Sinnar and Shirdi only to find they have only power petrol.... I didn't want to mix the power one with my existing normal petrol and on checking my fuel meter, I was confident that it would accompany me for another 250+ km, so headed towards Nagpur without wasting any time.... Then after around 2 hours drive, got an Indian oil petrol pump before mehkar, refueled and checked the tyre pressure, took a short break of 10-15 mins and again pressed the pedal.... The expressway is definitely a state of the art work but I would say Agra Lucknow Expressway tarmac is far better than Samruddhi Expressway or Purvanchal expressway.... Exited expressway near Nagpur at around 4:30pm, took ring road and off towards Pench tiger reserve.... I had a feeling that it would be difficult to reach Jabalpur and decided to take a night halt around Khursapar region of Pench, but the road was smooth enough and reached MP border at around 6:45pm..... Took a long break of 45 mins and then decided to head towards Jabalpur.... MP Roads are smooth with occasional potholes, but those are deep enough to cause damage in my Grand i10... Maintaining 100 was easy on Nagpur Jabalpur highway owing to reduced traffic... Reached Jabalpur outskirts at around 9:40pm, checked 2-3 hotels and got a budget room at ₹1200 with AC and hot water just beside the jabalpur bypass.... Took a hot shower, had my dinner in the hotel restaurant and then called it a day.... Longest drive in a single day in my Grand, while leaving the car in the parking lot, the odometer trip was showing 1008.4km, beating my previous best of 981km in my Lucknow to Chandannagar road trip last year.

Stayed at Sukoon Resort (9009800207), Jabalpur bypass.

You won't regret by following my methodology to keep your car looking fresh for a very long time.
It would be worth mentioning that my VW Vento in Kolkata is more than 12 years old.

Kms of India - Metal edge sharpener

These hardworking soft spoken people from Bihar and UP who sharpen metal edges while riding their ubiquitous bicycle and using it for the actual job are hard to spot since the past 15 - 20 years ever since everyone in cities and large towns started becoming a techie! Their tribe and profession have almost become extinct because men and women in their 20s and even upto late 30s talk big about sustainability, recycling and environment but with the bat of an eyelid they discard old stuff which can be made fully functional by forking out a few rupees only. The techie generation discard the old and take pride in ordering everything online at fancy prices.

A long pending issue since the past 10 or more years was done and dusted when this man came cycling while I was standing in the first floor balcony of my home in Kolkata on Friday 2023-09-22 afternoon.
I asked him to stop and told him that I have business lined up for him.

In about 30 minutes and a payout of ₹150 only, a 'dao' (chopper) and three scissors with blunt edges became fully functional.

While watching this man from North Bihar diligently performing his job, I kept wondering how brands can partner these people for a top of the mind recall and at negligible cost.

To get the ball rolling, I was contemplating fixing one or two #IndianRoadieStickers, because this man is also a roadie and a true #IndianRoadie who by his own admission has been cycling 20 - 30 or more kms everyday in the lanes and bylanes of Kolkata since the early 1990s. He is one who #LiveToWorkEvolveEnjoy and to feed so many mouths back home hundreds of kms away and is not one who keeps blabbering nonsense about fuel economy, build quality, top speed, 4x4 and more of such nonsense.
I couldn't spot any flat surface on his bicycle. Worse still the drizzle outside turned into heavy drops of rain. I paid him off without haggling for a lower payout.

He uttered a smiling 'thank you' and braving the rains, he vanished into some other bylane in search of the next client.
I am sure that he was not trained by some potbellied soft skills trainer in pink or blue shirt, green trousers and brown shoes like the ones who supposedly 'groom' tech college students to bag the job of glorified clerks to operate from 'workstations' and clamor for right to moonlighting.

Friends and fellow roadies, be honest and comment if you
- enjoy stopping to watch these kind of people silently carrying out their profession.
- have seen or availed of their services and where in India.

That's GYMNI, a Maruti Suzuki Omni modified with parts meant for Maruti Gypsy.

P.S: We have no clues about what the owner is doing with the vehicle after incurring substantial expenses on the modifications. We are left wondering if the authorities have given the owner the go ahead to use the vehicle on road legally.

The modification was probably carried out between 2018 and 2019.

Electric car was first produced in 1884

Did you know that in 1884 the first produced standard electric car in the world capable of being reproduced and sold to the public was revealed?
Did you know that by early 1900 1/3 of all vehicles on the road were electric?
They started to disappear rapidly around 1920 with the introduction of gasoline by Henry Ford.
Ferdinand Porsche, the founder of the eponymous sports car, produced an electric vehicle named the 'P' in 1898, before creating the world’s first hybrid offering, which was powered by both electricity and an internal combustion engine.
So whats new that all the present generation of EV fanbois are harping about when some companies could make them way back in 1884. However, gasoline fired engines killed EVs from the face of America then!
Mercedes-Benz also offered an electric model called the Mercedes Mixte, in 1906.
This car was adopted as a taxi in the cities and even became a race car in 1907.
Therefore, there's nothing so novel in EV.
