Self Drive car - renting, what to do, what not to do, experiences

If you intend to rent and use a Self Drive Car anywhere in India, check out the reviews of all the brands offering the service.
Don't be surprised if you read the story of a person renting a self-drive Mahindra Scorpio in Tamilnadu only to have the gear shift lever landing up free in his hands somewhere near Tiruchirapalli, etc, etc.

Reviews by users for brands like Revv, MyChoize, Myles are reasonably favorable.  The most hobnobbed brand Zoomcar has a lot of negative reviews.

Whichever brand you go for, take delivery during the day so that you can shoot videos + click photos of all around the car plus top to bottom, front to back, inside the car and lastly the engine bay.
Click a clear photo of yourself with the person(s) who delivers the car to you.
See if the lights are working fine. See if the other electricals are OK.
Check if the inside walls of the tyres are in perfect shape/ condition also.
Check every document minutely.
Make sure what documents you need to have and taxes you need to pay if inter-state travel is involved.
Read all the small prints before signing on the dotted line.
Read about their 'security' money refund policy.
Keep the personal numbers of 3 - 4 of the company officials, besides the Customer Care helpline numbers.

More importantly, just because you have rented the car, don't misuse it. The car might belong to some else, but the life is yours.

Don't repent later for your carelessness.
