Must see - Making of Kansha/ Kansa utensils in Bankura, WB

The making of Kansha/ Kansa utensils in Bankura district of West Bengal.

Kansha/ Kansa is an alloy of copper and tin.

Pure Kansa is an Indian name for bell metal or bronze. An ultra-superior metal, Kansa is an alloy of Copper 78 percent and Tin 22 percent both heated together up to 700 centigrade to form pure bronze. A malleable metal in itself, the prepared alloy is further moulded into handcrafted products and can acquire different kinds of finishes – matt or glossy, depending on the aesthetic preferences.
Kansa is usually used to eat food and drink water on a daily basis which helps enhancing the gut health.

Those roadies from the 5 states in South India planning to drive to North Bengal, Sikkim, Bhutan and North East can stop by and pick up a couple of these utensils, viz. thalis, glasses, bowls, ladles, etc after some price haggling with the artisans.

January 17, 2024 marked the 75th anniversary of the Volkswagen Beetle’s arrival in the United States.

Dutch importer Ben Pon, already importing Beetles into the Netherlands, brought the first two across the Atlantic to test the car’s American sales potential. Arriving on January 17, 1949, he had difficulty selling those first two cars, but things quickly improved as this ad from late 1969 explains.

Pon’s Automobielhandel B.V is still very much in business today as the official Dutch Volkswagen importer.

Mahindra Bolero crashed near Bagdogra after night drive on 2023-10-28

A Mahindra Bolero travelling from Dakshineswar, Kolkata to Kalimpong in North Bengal with members of the same family rear ended a bus at around 6.10 am on Saturday 2023-10-28 between Bagdogra and Siliguri. 1 person lost his life on the spot. Atleast another lady was grievously injured.
Local people who jumped in to rescue the passengers are of the opinion that the driver of the Bolero had possibly fallen asleep after driving throughout the night.

There are a lot of people who strongly believe that accidents happen to others only.

Atal Setu: All you need to know about India's longest sea bridge which was inaugurated on 2024-01-12

Atal Setu: All you need to know about India's longest sea bridge

The bridge has shortened the distance between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to just 20 minutes which earlier took 2 hours.

The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) or Atal Setu, longest sea bridge in India by prime minister Narendra Modi on Friday 2024-01-13. The bridge has been named after former prime minister and late BJP veteran Atal Bihari Vajpayee. 21.8 km in length and having six lanes, the bridge has been constructed at a whopping cost of ₹18,000 crore.
The bridge originates from Sewri in Mumbai and ends at Nhava Sheva in Uran taluka in Raigad district. It is expected to boost economic development in Navi Mumbai and other nearby areas. It has shortened the distance between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to just 20 minutes which earlier took 2 hours. Authorities claim it will also resolve the problem of traffic jams in the region.
The maximum speed limit for four-wheelers on the bridge has been fixed at 100 kmph by the Mumbai Police. Motorbikes, autorickshaws and tractors won’t be allowed to run on it.

Here are some other amazing details about the Atal Setu
A marvel of engineering, steel equivalent to the weight of 500 Boeing aeroplanes and 17 times that of the Eiffel Tower's weight was used for its construction.
177,903 metric tonnes of steel and 504,253 metric tonnes of cement were used in its construction.
The bridge also reduces the distance between Mumbai and Pune Expressway. It will also provide connection to areas like the under-construction Navi Mumbai International Airport.
70,000 vehicles are expected to use the bridge everyday.
The construction of the bridge began in 2018. It is the 12th longest sea bridge in the world.
