In mid June 2020, Andrea Nicole King went down to Columbus to pick up Lola her dream machine! She’s an ‘88 Chevy G-20 conversion van with only 9k original miles! She was well maintained and kept inside for most of her life. Soon enough Andrea will start making her way back to California to finish up her debut record and explore more of the west coast. Traveling is a passion Andrea. She is eagerly waiting to see where all Lola takes her.

15 yrs old daughter pedalled 1200 kms over 7 days from Gurugram to Darbhanga, carrying her injured and jobless father as the pillion rider


Jyoti Kumari is a 15 year old girl from Bihar who carried her wounded father from GURUGRAM (Gurgaon) to their home village in DARBANGHA district (Bihar) on her bicycle covering 1200 kms over 7 days during the lockdown in May 2020.

Kicked out by his employer during the lockdown, the daughter Jyoti pedalled back home with her father riding pillion. After this crazy feat of endurance and love the Cycling Federation of India, an academy, under the aegis of Sports Authority of India, is looking into the possibility of training her to  be a world-class cyclist.

The young girl deserves the 'carrot' in 'Carrot N Stick'.

Vinayraj Singh of MP crashed his white Maruti Suzuki Brezza on 2020-06-24














One Vinayraj Singh of Sardarpur and/ or Rajod in Madhya Pradesh crashed his white Maruti Suzuki Brezza Vitara on some National Highway on Wednesday 2020-06-24. He came out unscathed. He posted the photos of the damaged car on the NH with the caption on social media on 2020-06-25: 
"Yesterday the accident happened, now what to do next, please give some suggestion..đŸ˜ĸđŸ˜ĸ" 
My response: 

You just posted a couple of photos and went silent. Do you want us to cry or sob with you? 
These incomplete communications are extremely irritating. 

Where did it happen? 
How did it happen? 

It is clear that the car went right through the cut in the median divider and onto the the middle of the lane with oncoming traffic. 
Having seen over 45 winters & summers on Indian roads and a logical marketing professional, I have this feeling that the car was at very high speed. Suddenly there were some obstructions on the way of the car. To save a sure crash, you swerved right, still hit the median divider (because of which the front and rear axles twisted and the left side bore the maximum brunt) and stopped in the middle of the opposite flank. 
You are lucky that there were no oncoming vehicles. 
You would have killed yourself and people in other oncoming vehicles, too. 
I know that you will never agree that you were at a high uncontrollable speed or were inattentive. 

The other possibility is that the driver fell asleep. 

To an extent of 90%+ accuracy, I am certain that either of this is what caused the crash. You were obviously NOT #HighOnCognition". 

You will claim insurance and as a result of which all Indians will have to pay a few paisa or rupees more in insurance premium next year. 

On 2019-07-11, you posted a photo of yourself on the wheels of the Brezza with the caption, TEST LIFE IN STYLE. So you did it. I only hope nobody else got hurt!

Why Do Diesel Fuel Injectors Fail? 

There are two major causes of diesel fuel injector failure associated with the properties of the fuel itself: excess wear and deposits.

Excessive Wear

One mode of injector failure is excess wear. Prior to 2006, diesel fuels in the United States contained relatively high amounts of sulfur. This sulfur comes from the crude oil refined into the fuel. This sulfur in the fuel acted as a natural lubricant for the fuel system. Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) was gradually introduced into the market and is now mandated in all diesel fuel segments including on-highway, off-highway, and railroad. ULSD has a maximum allowable sulfur content of 15 ppm. As refiners removed this sulfur the lubrication benefits went away as well. As a result additives are now used to restore lubricity. The standard for measuring this lubricity is the High Frequency Reciprocating Rig (HFRR) Test, ASTM D-6079, which measures the size of a wear scar between two metal surfaces lubricated with the fuel. The less lubrication the fuel provides, the larger the wear scar. The maximum allowable wear scar in the United States is 520 microns (460 microns in Canada). Many fuel distributors add additional lubricity improvers to the fuel to limit premature wear.

Abrasion

While fuel lubricity is an important factor in determining the wear characteristics of the fuel injection system, it is not the only fuel-related cause of excess wear. The other potential cause of premature injector failure due to wear is caused by abrasion.  All fuels contain small amounts of impurities, even the highest quality diesel fuels. Some of these impurities include very small (a few microns in size) particles that can pass through even the tightest on-board vehicle filters. If the fuel contains a large amount of these small insoluble particles, over time they can abrade the injectors as they pass through them during normal engine operation. In extreme cases, this abrasion can significantly alter the fuel spray pattern, causing reduced engine performance, and even increased downtime and maintenance due to severe abrasion. Good housekeeping practices by the fuel supplier, and good fuel filtration can reduce the damage caused by this abrasion.

Deposits

While excess wear, whether caused by poor fuel lubricity or abrasion, is important to consider when discussing the cause of injector failure, the major reason for injector failure today is due to excessive buildup of deposits. There are two major types of deposits: external injector deposits and internal injector deposits. External injector deposits generally are caused by incompletely burned fuel that builds up around the injector holes. These deposits are referred to as coking deposits. While in most cases these deposits may not lead to injector failure, they can build up enough to disrupt the fuel spray, which leads to less efficient fuel combustion. This is often observed by the vehicle operator as a noticeable loss in power or lost fuel economy. Detergent additives have been used quite successfully to help control these external deposits, and restore the injector to its most efficient performance; restoring both the lost power and lost fuel economy caused by the buildup of these external deposits.

Internal Diesel Injector Deposits (IDID)

In the last few years, a new type of injector deposit has begun to appear. This deposit does not form on the external tips of the injectors, but rather on the internal parts like the injector needles and pilot valves. These deposits often look similar to the coking deposits (dark brown in color), but also can be very light, almost grayish to off-white in appearance. While they can form in virtually any type of diesel engine, they typically only cause operational issues in the newer engines with highly engineered injection systems. 

Engine manufacturers are now offering injection systems that operate at very high injection pressures (greater than 30,000 psi in some cases) that supply fuel to all injectors through a common fuel rail. These engines are often referred to as High Pressure Common Rail (HPCR) engines. They were designed to help meet the ever-tightening emission regulations engine manufacturers must meet. The extremely high injection pressures create a very fine fuel mist spray in the combustion chamber, resulting in more complete burning of the fuel. This more complete fuel burning yields lower emissions and can also improve fuel economy.

In order to maintain these high injection pressures, the injector assemblies have been highly engineered, and have very tight clearance tolerances, sometimes as small as 1 – 3 microns (a human hair is typically 70 – 100 microns thick). So, you can imagine that it would not take much material depositing on these parts to cause poor injector needle actuation, leading to poor engine performance. In extreme cases, these deposits can lead to complete sticking or seizing of the injector needles, particularly after the vehicle has been shut down and the engine has been allowed to cool. 

As these internal deposits build up, they can cause the same symptoms as the more traditional external coking deposits, namely lost power and reduced fuel economy.  In extreme cases where the injectors begin to completely stick, they can lead to excessive vehicle downtime and high maintenance costs.

Pithoragarh bridge collapse on 2020-06-23


A bailey bridge in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, nearly 50 km from the Sino-India border, collapsed when a truck carrying a heavy earth moving machine was crossing it around 9 am on Monday, 2020-06-23. The truck driver and the excavator machine operator were injured as the 40 feet long bridge, built in 2009, crashed under the combined weight of the truck and the machine. 

The weight-bearing capacity of the bridge was 18 tonne while the combined weight of the excavator and the truck was 26 tonnes.

The truck driver and the excavator operator have been admitted to a hospital in Munsyari.

Around 15 border villages of Johar Valley have been cut off. 
Construction of another bridge will take at least 15 days.

Covid-19 testing centre for migrant workers at Chichira border on NH6 near Kharagpur


Migrant workers reaching the Chichira interstate border checkpost on NH6 (old number) near Kharagpur in hired buses from distant states are forcibly stopped by West Bengal police at this point in the midst of nowhere and subjected to unprecedented harassment.

The shack with fluttering plastic sheets is West Bengal's unmanned and hitech super-speciality Covid19/ health checkup/testing centre at Chichira border on NH6.

The police themselves are advising the poor/ hapless travellers to leave the buses and start walking to their destination in West Bengal through the forests to avoid waiting for hours for the health checkups to happen.

P.S: It's not clear if roadies in own cars and bikes also need to take a break at the same location, abandon the ride and continue walking.

Engine flew off the overturned Tata Nexon (KL-03AE-0123) in Kerala. Marbles between the legs got saved





This is the fallout of a peak of 7300 private engineering colleges and 3200+ private B-schools which mushroomed pan-India between 2000 and 2013, producing herds of glorified techies or Information Technology specialists or BFSI glorified clerks who were in demand purely because India was competitive in the global market.
Since the past 4 - 5 years the 'know_it_all' specialists and and their close friends started hearing about NCAP (crash) ratings.
They started testing it out if their cars were  indeed safe as claimed by the manufacturers. They wanted to demonstrate to the world that their cars had fabulous crumple zones and even their irresponsible behavior can't hold them back in wheelchairs.
By end June 2020, they have also started demonstrating that in the event of a collision, the engine will fly out and save the marbles between the legs from bursting.
BTW, they are such great nationalists that majority of them try out their stupid stances on Tata vehicles 😠

7) Thalassa, Small Vagator, Goa - good for Greek style food - awesome wraps - ambience is just amazing - Greek themed
8) Cafe Cottinga @ The Tamarind Hotel, Anjuna, Goa - awesome Indian food - do try the cakes and pastries especially the baked caramel cheesecake
9) Martin's Corner, Betalbatim, Goa - awesome Goan Ambience and live music, chicken steak, fresh seafood, lobster and crab (availability depends on season and catch) - this is basically in the middle of nowhere
10) Cafe Bodega, Panjim, Goa - vegan friendly - try the quiche, sandwiches and desserts - coffee is also recommended considering the ambience

Famous strawberry ice creams available at Mapro Gardens, Mahabaleshwar, Maharashtra. One can enjoy the ice creams while staring at the beautiful nature.
The cafe at Mapro Gardens, Mahabaleshwar serves varieties of freshly baked vegetable pizzas, milk shakes, ice creams, etc. It's a foodies delight.
I have been there a couple of times.
Mahabaleshwar, via Wai, Panchgani is just about 115 kms from Pune (Katraj).
