Remembering Landmaster - transmission (Subrata Sen)

Hindustan Landmaster was originally Morris Oxford Series II, introduced in the UK in 1952. It had the smoothest transmission (possibly better than the Ambassador) and fantastic side valve engine. I felt the suspension was also superior to Ambassador which was introduced in 1958 initially with side valve engine and later from 1960 the OHV engine which continued for the next 2 decades or more.

One month old Tata Punch caught fire in Gujarat in early April 2023

One month old Tata Punch (petrol Accomplished variant with AMT gearbox) caught fire while being driven on a National Highway in Gujarat in early April 2023. Although the car was totally gutted, the occupants in the car managed to escape the inferno unhurt.

The owner of the month old Tata Punch, Prabal Bordiya, managed to take a few pictures and record a video of his car burning. He wrote, “While driving my Tata Punch, which I purchased just one month ago, the bonnet caught fire automatically. Within moments, the car was engulfed in flames and was reduced to ashes within minutes, putting our lives at risk. Thankfully, we were able to escape from the car immediately and avoid serious injuries.”

A couple of weeks later Tata Motors came forward with an official statement about the accident. Tata Motors spokesperson said, “We are actively looking into this thermal incident. We understand from the customer that fortunately all occupants are safe and unhurt. We are engaging with the customer and investigating agencies to offer all possible support and will be conducting a detailed investigation to ascertain the facts/ reasons of this unfortunate incident. Safety of vehicles and their users remains our foremost priority at Tata Motors.” He had filed an FIR, too.

Maruti Suzuki has started 'car servicing at night' from February 2019

Way back in February 2019, Maruti Suzuki announced the start of a new initiative for its customers - ‘car servicing at night’. Initially the service was made available across 5 cities in nine workshops. The cities where it was initially available were Bangalore and Mangalore in Karnataka state, Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh, Gurgaon in Haryana, and Bhubaneswar in Odisha. The company aimed to enhance the customer experience through this initiative. Customers can drop off their vehicles for servicing overnight and pick it up the next day morning. This benefits those who need emergency repair work, or are busy during the day and need their vehicles, or cab aggregators like Uber and Ola who can then avoid downtime. Service charges are not extra for the night service. Maruti also ensures that cars are delivered according to the deadline. In case of any unexpected delays, the customer is provided with a loaner car. Also, the customer is not disturbed at night by any calls from the service advisor. Service staff operate in shifts and are specially trained to handle emergencies at night. This service is in compliance with the law with all permissions being taken beforehand.

Get rid of stubborn water spots on car windshields, windows

How to get rid of stubborn water spots on car windshields/ windows and prevent them from forming in the first place.

Water stains/ spots on glasses in your car are caused by the buildup of minerals like magnesium and calcium. When it rains or you wash your car using plain tap or well water the minerals in the water start to build up. Some areas have naturally harder water than others and the water spots will be worse.

Even if you scrub your windows after each wash or storm, these minerals will still build up. Around the circumference of the oblong or whatever shape, you’ll see the minerals have accumulated.

Get rid of the frustrating stains by using any of the following hacks:

A) Scrub with wet newspaper.
B) Scrub with a slice of potato.
C) Scrub with a slice of lemon.
D) Moist a small portion of any soft fabric with vinegar and wipe.
E) Moist a small portion of any soft fabric with concentrated baking soda solution and wipe.
Caution: Don't use a solution of vinegar and baking soda together. The effect will be neutralized.
F) Spray WD40 and wipe.

After applying any of the above mentioned 'jugad' (hacks) on glass, viz. front or rear windshield, side windows, rear view mirrors which have those irritating stains, wipe clean with dry cloth if weather is dry or run the wiper (for windshields) if it's raining.

If these sound too mundanely deshi, use all the expensive bottles of liquids available in car detailing shops to satisfy your ego and announce to the world that you have arrived 😊

It's ACCELERATOR - Rotten English By Callous Drivers

It's ACCELERATOR. Not 'ACCILATOR'.

To drive a car ahead or in the reverse after engaging the applicable gear, you steadily press the ACCELERATOR pedal.

It speaks of the pathetic quality of a me-too 'group' members and its Admins when someone writes 'ACCILATOR চাপলে চাকা ঘুরে যাচ্ছিল' and nobody gives a damn by pointing out the crap!

Audi Chaiwala in Lokhandwala, Mumbai

HR26BS0717, a white Audi A6 is being talked about a lot. Reels are also being made by vloggers.
Guess what has made the particular 'chaar churiya' somewhat popular 😊

The car with a Gurgaon registration can mostly be seen in Lokhandwala, Andheri West, Mumbai.

Amit Sharma and Manu Kashyap drove from Punjab to Mumbai to pursue careers in acting. Their dreams of becoming actors remained elusive. For a living they wanted to do something different and started selling tea for Rs 20 from the trunk of their Audi A6, worth Rs 70 lakh, in the plush neighbourhood of Lokhandwala in the western suburb of Andheri since end 2022.

They have named their initiative ODT - On Drive Tea. They have also come to be known as Audi Chaiwala locally.

How can they be allowed to forcibly take away my 10 - 15 yrs old 4/2 wheeler

My car is my property. How can they forcibly take away my property?
I can't allow vested interests to scrap my belongings. My car is my means for personal mobility for which I spent a sizeable chunk of my life's savings. I don't have the means to acquire a car every 10 or 15 years.

Strictly avoid driving on flowing or stagnant water

On 2005-10-20, I too had committed a similar (if not worse) act of utter stupidity while driving my black Maruti Esteem LXi from Kolkata to Puri with my wife, daughter (8), nephew (7), father and mother on board. I was on a work cum pleasure trip with a tight schedule.

The only difference in what you see in the attached video in some foreign land vis-a-vis mine in Odisha was that I was egged on to land into the situation by other roadies (unknown to me) and scores of bystanders.

Thinking of the harrowing moments of that day while sitting at home 18 years later in June 2023 still gives me goosebumps. Everyday, as they say is a learning process. It's unbelievable that we were still alive once the episode ended after about 30 minutes.

I will share the details with everyone sometimes soon.

Lipstick is for lips 👄, nail polish is for nails 💅, deodorants are for your smelling underarms!

Lipstick is for lips 👄, nail polish is for nails 💅, deodorants are for your smelling underarms!

A frequently asked question by newbie car owners almost all of whom love to call themselves 'techies' is:

How do I remove the scratches in my car? I have a 'dark edition', 'elephant edition', 'cheetah edition', 'chaar churiya edition', 'German edition', 'blue oval edition', etc, etc, etc.

My answer:

The only way out is to get the panels repainted with minimal use of 'putty'. Any good denting and painting workshop with expert manpower can do a fantastic job, even better than the fabled authorized workshops. One has to physically move around, watch workers doing their job, inspect cars which have already been painted fully or partially, and finally decide on whom to rely upon.
No amount of toothpastes, hair conditioning shampoos, deodorants, nail polishes, rubbing compounds can bring your car back to normal.
Only use of your 'natural intelligence' can bring your car back to its pristine condition.  Flush your ego down the loo till your car gets back to its original glory.

Admins and Members of 'Callous Night Drivers From Kolkata'

When Admin of a 'me too' forum with zero intellect (buddhi) who can't even differentiate between a$$ and elbow + gets a kick out of 'Quantity Over Quality', a member's post which blissfully says NH44 passes through the vicinity of Jamshedpur, gets approved. Not a single person points out the glaring factual error!
It's hilarious when chivalrous people in such forums write that they are 'learning' a lot because of the formation of the 'me too' forum, sadly on the inspiration of an ex- Indian Roadie.
Managing a social media forum in the domain of 'road travel and automobiles' needs intellect and exposure to diverse situations!
Now you know why I keep repeating that IndianRoadie and associated forums are focused on Quality Over Quantity and Class Over Mass. Thanks to my professional background, there was no ambiguity in my objectives behind Indian Roadie ever since I founded it on 4th May 2013.

Fir ease of search, let that forum be addressed as Callous Night Drivers From Kolkata.

IR GTG on 2023-06-09 at Jabbrr Afghani, Salt Lake with Adv Abhijit Sarkar

Sweltering heat/
torrential rains/
lovely weather/
sultry weather/
biting cold/
cool breeze/
mood off/
mood on/
festive season/
no rhyme or reason  ..... some of us in Indian Roadie are always game for a relaxed drive for food.
Kolkata got its much awaited torrential rainfall on 2023-06-09 afternoon. The drizzle had not yet stopped but the weather became perfect for a leisurely drive around Salt Lake City, barely a stone's throw from my house. While I was enjoying the cool breeze standing on the verandah on the 1st floor of my house, there was this totally unexpected call from Adv Abhijit Sarkar, "Dada, I am going to pick you up in the next 45 minutes. Get ready".
Aimlessly we drove around Salt Lake for sometime and then headed for yummy rolls bought from the Jabbrr Afghani outlet near City Centre - 1 Mall followed by extra strong coffee at an outlet in IA market.
Abhijit dropped me home at 8 pm even while it kept drizzling outside.

Kolkata got its much awaited rainfall on 2023-06-09 afternoon

I was dreaming of a possible chicken pakora and fish fry meet, viz. IndianRoadieGTG with fellow members and had also penned down my wish in one of the associated forums of Indian Roadie.
However, there was a disclaimer. The GTG can be planned only after it rains a bit in my cursed city of Kolkata going through an unprecedented heat + humidity wave since the past 7 - 8 weeks.
And there you go. The much awaited thunder shower started at 2.55 pm on Friday 2023-06-09.
Let's plan an evening stag meet during the week starting Monday 2023-06-12. Who's interested?

P.S: I am also in a mood for a family GTG, too sometime soon.

Particularly for Tata passenger vehicle fanbois

My comment in response to a post in another forum in early June 2023:

In all probability you will not get any help from TML.

Get vocal and tell your co-owners of Nexon and other Tata cars to behave themselves. Scream at them with dignity if fellow Nexon owners post irresponsible comments. Now that you are facing the music you are obviously frustrated and don't know what to do.

Invariably, some or many after reading your post will chip in with comments like "I am driving a Nexon/ Tata car since the past 1/ 2/ 3/ 5 years and have driven for 9,000 or 19,000 or 49,000 kms. I have not had problems". Such irresponsible/ selfish comments dilute your genuine problems. Some newbie TML owners with own profiles locked will even have the audacity to question you if you really exist or if you really own a TML car.

Even if one such irresponsible comment is made, TML will naturally brush aside your issues even if they are genuine. I am a senior corporate marketing professional. After reading such comments I wouldn't have taken your issues seriously.

It's only the person whose car (or any product) develop problems know how helpless he feels.

Also, people should immediately stop the propensity of blaming the service centres. The service outlets did not manufacture the Tata car brands. If the product doesn't have standardization or have inherent niggles, the service stations can't rectify the problematic issues. Moreover, it's the responsibility of TML to ensure that the service stations are not in the firing line of disgruntled customers. After all, it's TML who appointed them in the first place.

I will eagerly wait to read the comments by group members.

Fantastic 👌👌👌

The overcharging (3x and even upto 4x) by bus operators based out of WB (and plying on  the Puri - Bbsr - Cuttack - Balasore - Kolkata route) during times of extreme sorrow after the Coromandel Express on 2023-06-02 evening speaks of the rot that has percolated into every sphere of life ever since Jyoti (the man thankfully no more, deserves no respect) assumed power in 1977 😡.

The behaviour of the queen bee 👑🐝of the present dispensation in WB is inspiring every wrongdoing! The person's lexicon is bereft of any compassion whatsoever.

Respect for Naveen Patnaik (CM, Odisha) and his able team of officials in the State Transport Authority Odisha and the display of true compassion by conducting surprise checks inside buses from 2023-06-03 after news of overcharging went viral, ensuring that the operators return every additional rupee wrongfully charged from passengers.

The operators were fined over ₹20,000 per bus.

Aerial view of Mumbai Trans Harbour Sea Bridge, expected to open by October 2023

The Mumbai Trans Harbour Sea Bridge is expected to open by October 2023.
Photo: Twitter @ TheINIofficial

The existing Mankhurd - Vashi Bridge can be seen in the far background.

Description from Left to Right:
The Sewri beginning on the Eastern Freeway.
The well-lit portion where it goes close to land is the BPCL/ HPCL refinery, and the less lit edge is the Tata Electric plant at Trombay.
You can see the dark mass of the BARC Hill behind the refineries, and the small clump of lights behind the hill should be BARC Trombay itself.
Mid sea mild lights should be Elephanta Island.
The bright lights in the extreme right below where the bridge ends should be the JNPT Port.
The gap above where the Bridge ends should be the existing Belapur - Ulve Bridge
And the end of the Bridge should be Ulve.

Indian Roadie Distance Signage between Srinagar and Sonamarg

While driving from Srinagar to Sonamarg (Sonamarg_Srinagar 80 kms) via the  Srinagar-Leh National Highway, there's a small town halfway named Cherwan on the left banks of Sind River.

The attached #IndianRoadieDistanceSignage was spotted a short distance after crossing Cherwan.
Cherwan to Sonamarg is about 40 kms.
Kargil is 155 kms ahead while Leh is 381 kms ahead from the spot.

The ubiquitous white letterings on green road signage boards give roadies a fair idea of which place is where and the distances of places from where the photos are clicked.
Get your bearings right by reading these boards.

I (Deep Banerjee, Founder - Indian Roadie and associated forums) hardly ever use online navigation maps while on highways. These signage boards are my best bet.

It's BRAKE. Not 'break' - Rotten English

It's BRAKE. Not 'break'.
It's 'BRAKING'. Not 'breaking'.

To stop a car you press the BRAKE pedal.

If you love your car, get the 'chalta hai' attitude out of your mind. Please correct yourself once and for all. Agree that you were ignorant all these years in your life.

Collision between bus and Toyota Innova near Mysore on 2023-05-29

10 people including 2 children lost their lives and 3 were seriously injured in a head-on collision between a private bus and a Toyota Innova in broad daylight on an empty road near Tirumakudalu-Narasipura, near Mysuru, Karnataka on Monday 2023-05-29.
The car turned into a lump of mangled metal after the crash. The bus was heavily damaged, too.
The accident was captured live on the dashcam fitted in the bus.

Wondering what could have caused the crash 🤔. Possibilities are:
- Did the car driver fall asleep.
- The car was being driven so fast that the driver could not steer left and bring it back on its path after the bend.
- The car was loaded with too many people which resulted in delayed steering and braking.

Maruti Range Rover spotted - Kms of India

The owner should ideally toil it out to buy a a real Range Rover brand of SUV instead of buying the alphabets only and fixing those on the bonnet of his already beautiful Maruti!

The aspirational owners spend a lot of money on these acts while people laugh their guts out on their public display of stupidity 😉
