Didir Baani - HER instructions to senior police officers can result in serious highway accidents

Driving on wide highways and/ or narrow roads in towns throughout West Bengal will become an even more harrowing affair after her instructions. Hear her diktats during one of her farce administrative meetings in mid February 2022. Let's not talk of scientific traffic management in a state where the annual 'gorment' budgets are framed supposedly while monkeying on a treadmill.

Be prepared to crash and die or get grievously injured after crashing into unmarked haphazardly placed guardrails because she has instructed her DMs and SPs to intensify 'naka' checkings. Be prepared to be rear ended after suddenly slowing down from 80 kmph to 30 kmph in less than 50 mtrs on NH19 and/ or NH16.

Everything in this state works on the inspiration of the one and only GreatestGiftOfGodToBengaliMankind. Her instructions are considered to be sacrosanct by bureaucrats and cops and all government officials from top to bottom. No official wants to be benched or transferred to some obscure location for life.

Now for us responsible roadies it will be more and more fines to finance her schemes, viz. Lakshmir Bhandar, Sabuj Saathi, Syastho Saathi, etc, etc, etc aimed to buy votes. However, the rogue rule breakers will invariably get get away cititing political patronage. Get it it out of your head that she cares for us roadies.

XUV700 crash - Consequences Of Promoting Build Quality

The smashed Mahindra XUV700 whose photos have been attached with this post was registered in Gurgaon as recently as 2022-02-08. In exactly 15 days from the date of registration, the car has been transformed into a junk.
It has become a fad for newgen Qualified Uneducated roadies to buy their cars and test the abilities claimed by the manufacturers. The owners are invariably full of rotten attitude and are clueless about being #HighOnCognition.
They are of the notion that they have bought war tanks which can bulldoze every other object on and off the road.
Level headed roadies in various car ownership forums have in recent times started exposing the behavioral traits of people who shouldn't be allowed to drive at all.

Note: The hard hitting comment and photos of the smashed XUV700 has been sourced from another social media forum.

Road trip from Kolkata to Darjeeling, Takdah, Bolpur and back in Tata Nexon by Indian Roadie Abhimanyu Chatterjee in February 2022

Road trip from City of Joy to the Queen of Hills and the abode of the bard and back, viz. Kolkata - Darjeeling - Takdah - Bolpur!

Kolkata to Siliguri
(Kolkata_Siliguri)
Kolkata to Darjeeling
(Kolkata_Darjeeling)

The itch was already there, being tired of sitting back home mostly, courtesy pandemic. So had to hit the road. And what better than the Himalayas. Good old Darjeeling this time.

Start date (from Kolkata to Siliguri) : 14/02/22
End date : (returned  to Kolkata) : 22/02/22

Distance covered (round trip) : 1575kms

Vehicle used : Nexon Petrol (4yrs+)

It was around 10pm that we started from Kolkata to avoid night curfew, the original plan was to start at 4am in the morning. We reached rather smoothly at Siliguri around 10:30am. Time taken 12.5hrs (with bio and food breaks). Route taken via Kalyani, Krishnanagar, Botolbari (Bengal to Bengal). Road condition is far better as compared to my past experiences all through, with some rough patches in the Botolbari road, yet manageable. Put up at West Bengal tourism property in Siliguri (recommended).
Next morning (9am) started climbing the mountains towards Darjeeling via Rohini. Loved the scenic drive. Took a tea break near Kurseong. Finally reached Darjeeling around noon. And a narrow steep climb later reached the West Bengal tourism property. The tourist lodge is preferred for its parking facility (a major issue in Darjeeling). The private balcony with each room provide sweeping view of the valley and Kanchenjunga. Although luck didn't favour us much as we only got a glimpse of the Sleeping Buddha... Mall, Observatory road, Mahakaal temple were some of the favourite places we visited while in the Queen of Hills.
After 2 days in Darjeeling we proceeded to Takdah. We didn't take the usual route from Darjeeling to Takdah via 6th Mile, but rather took the Jalapahar road to Lamahatta, scenic Peshok tea garden, Tinchuley to reach Takdah in 1.5hrs. Misty, meandering roads, chirping of birds, nature trails passing through dense coniferous forests, sight and sound of mountain streams coming down the slope every few yards you walk, blooming orchids, rolling tea gardens, that's what Takdah is all about. The word 'Tukdah' in Lepcha means mist/fog. Started as a British Army cantonment, the sleepy hamlet of Takdah still has a few Colonial bungalows, now converted into tourist accomodations. We had a grand stay at one such heritage bunglow (ref to picture) and soaked in the world away from this world. Stayed at Tukdah for 2 days and started rolling down via Rungli Rungliot tea garden towards the plains. On our return leg we halted at Malda (West Bengal tourism property again, recommended). Took us 8hrs to reach Malda (from Tukdah) via Botolbari road. Next morning we made an impromptu booking for Shantiniketan tourist lodge (West Bengal tourism property, recommended) & proceeded to Bolepur. Took us 5hrs to reach via Moregram (horrible craters in first few kilometres of Moregram). Enjoyed a leisurely drive around Bolepur in the afternoon. Next morning started at 10am and reached Kolkata via Burdwan by 2pm.

My glossy VW Vento after a partial silicone liquid polish on 2022-02-24

My red boy with a German pedigree but born in India as a thoroughbred Indian had started rolling on the roads of Kolkata and all over India w.e.f. January 2011. Ever since it has been officially under my custody since December 2014, it has been getting a wash with a princely ₹1 sachet of Clinic or Sunsilk shampoo every 2 - 5 months. I posted about it in Indian Roadie a couple of months ago. All the physics, chemistry, biotechnology, software, hardware, literature, accountancy experts gave me gyan on pH, the damage it can cause to painted surface and what not. I chuckled.

Unfortunately, throughout this wretched life of mine I couldn't dream of giving any of my cars luxury shampoo baths with 33M and those fanciful cosmetics.
The only luxury cosmetics that my dad and I pampered our boys on wheels with are a very well known brand Wax Polish or a bottle of Silicone Liquid Polish.

On Thursday, 2022-02-24 even as my boy idled for 15 mins after starting the engine inside the garage, I spontaneously decided to shine up the bonnet, the front bumper and the two front mudguards and a part of the roof of my red boy to subsequently show off  on social media. I did not wash my boy before the polishing ritual. The last time I fully polished my boy was about 18 months ago. And incidentally, I do all the pampering myself.

For the knowledge of all pH experts, let me politely tell them that normal hair shampoos never affected the paint of any of any of our cars ever since I was a child.
I have been using the same brand of silicone liquid polish maybe since 2001. Earlier since late 1960s, I saw my father using rubbing polish and/ or wax polish. Since mid 1980s when I started earning myself, I continued with the same practice.

Now, what do you say about the slippery glass finish after 15 minutes of love and pampering!

Btw, my red boy has rolled a shade more than 44500 kms till date since the past 11 years.

Road trip to Rabrigram and Furfura Sharif by Debasish Hazra in February 2022

Rabri Gram
From Dankuni drive on Dankuni-Champadanga Road via Jangalpara, Mosat Bazaar. From Mosat Bazaar turn left and reach the 5 point crossing at Aaniya. Drive a short distance straight ahead to reach Rabrigram/ Gangpur, a non descript village on the left.
At the entrance of Rabrigram there's lush green fields where where potato is grown.
Almost every household in the village is engaged in making of 'rabri'.
Even before one buys rabri, the rabri maker serves rabri for tasting straight from the iron kadai in which milk is simmered in coal, wood or gas fired stoves.
Rabrigram is approx 20 kms/ 45 mins from Dankuni.

Rabri is normally sold at ₹300 - 400 per kg. The rabri makers have provision to pack the rabri in plastic containers in such a way so that the content oesn't drip.
After reaching home, keep the containers in refrigerator.

Furfura Sharif
After visiting Rabrigram, drive back to Aaniya 5 point crossing, turn left on Singur-Borgachia Road. Furfura Sharif is just 4.5 kns ahead.
The main gate of Furfura Sharif is on the left of the road. Parking is along the road outside the main gate. Immediately after walking in, there's a large number of chairs and tables made of concrete. A smaller gate ahead leads to the main prayer hall in the mosque.
Construction of a huge building was in progress on the left. There's a 2 storied guest house nearby. It's normally all quiet inside.

East Coast drive in Tamilnadu in Tata Nexon by Kartik Kannan in early February 2022

Kartik Kannan (a member of Backpacking India On Road) took his red Tata Nexon on a coastal drive in early February 2020! A first for him to find beaches that one could drive the car on. He rode it in Vedaranyam Beach and Kodiyakarai Beach. 500 kms from Bangalore. 350 kms from Chennai.

Weekend Drive to Tamil Nadu’s famed East Coast drive  ....
A) Tharangambadi Beach (Trankebar). Has a museum in a fort by the sea. Beautiful quiet village roads to drive by and spend time in peace.
B) Temples of Tirukkadayur and Tirunellar Saneeswara Bagawan.
C) Night stay in Velankanni by the point where estuary and ocean meet.
D) Drive on the fertile Kaveri rice belt lands of Velankanni-Vedaranyam.
E) Visit Vedaranyeswarar Temple and Drive in Beach in Vedaranyam.

About Vedaranyeswarar Temple:

Origin of Vedas
Shiva Temple
Maragatha Lingam- Shiva lingam in emerald
Nearby food. 7 Idlis + 3 vadai + 2 Coffee = 80 Rs. Tasty food!

Vedaranyam Beach:

Flat beach. 515 kms from Bangalore. Can use the opportunity to drive the car on a beach. Very peaceful to spend an evening with no one around.

F) Drive further till you hit the sea at Kodiyakarai. Sri Lanka’s northern most place (Point Pedro) is 40 kms from here. Also present is a wildlife (Point Calimere Wildlife Sanctuary) and bird sanctuary. Just before Kodiyakarai is Raamar Padham (footprints of Lord Rama). Apparently he had come here to absolve his sins after killing Ravana.

All of these experiences in a vlog. Watch it here  ....

Chennai to Himalayas in Uttarakhan, solo ride

Rode to Himalayas solo, to and fro in 15days from Chennai on my FZ250.

Day 1 5th Feb :
Chennai – Nellore – Ongole – Nalgonda – Bhongir – Gajwel – Chegunta – Nirmal – Adialabad – Nagpur - 1166 KMS

Chennai – Ongole – NH. Outskirts of Chennai is still a challenge at places until we cross Tada. Poorly marked. Better than couple of years ago, still work to do.
Ongole – Nalgonda – 4 lane state highway with decent surface. With rough patches at very few places.
Nalgonda – Bhongir – Gajwel – Chegunta – Two laned State highway, with pot holes at many places. Two wheelers can manage. 4 wheelers, better take Hyderabad ORR to bye-pass Hyderabad.
Chegunta – Nirmal – Adilabad – MH Border (Pimpalkuti) – Brilliant roads. Careful at night for jay walkers. (This rule is applicable everywhere).
TS-MH Border (Pimpalkuti) – Nagpur – Pain in the wrong place for two wheelers. Roads are good at certain places once but overall bad especially when someone rides into middle of the night.

Start: 445 hrs 5th Feb
End: 0100 hrs 6th Feb

Day 2: 6th Feb:
Nagpur – Seoni – 142 Kms.

While I had plans to reach Jhansi for the day, serious headache owing to multiple reasons, forced me to take a break at Seoni. Found a Hotel and chose to rest the remaining day to recoup myself for the rest of the ride. Did not want to ruin the entire ride, since I had two buffer days.
Start: 10:45 hrs on 6th Feb
End: 13:00 hrs on 6th Feb

Day 3: 7th Feb:
Having recovered fully, planned to stretch to maximum distance possible.
Seoni – Lakhnadon – Narsinghpur – Sagar – Jhansi – Orai – Kanpur. 731 KMS

Seoni – Jhansi – Very good roads. Surprisingly, no cows on the highway, whatsoever. At times thought are MP roads and cows over hyped? Of course, saw cows were gracing along the highways, but no blockage of sorts. Probably I was over prepared.
Jhansi – Orai – 4 laned but riddled with pot holes and patched worse than Pot holes.
Orai – Kanpur – (Guess it was Barajore Toll) – Better roads.
From Toll to Kanpur – Lesser said the better. Two wheelers need to be careful.
Roads will balance for two wheelers. A lot of scrapped surface for re-laying the road, making it difficult for 2 wheelers. Road pushes you from Right to left/left to right. If you try to Balance it, you will lose it. It was like riding with training wheels on. Hope this situation won’t last long. Post elections, this should get sorted. But careful.

But from Jhansi till Orai, A lot of slow moving overloaded lorries. Literally, monster trucks carrying stones/rocks/granites. One needs to be careful.

Start: 0745 hrs
End: 2100 hrs

Day 4: 8th Feb:
Kanpur – Lucknow - Sitapur – Lakhimpur – Gola Gorakhnath – Puranpur – Pilibhit – Khatima - Tanakpur – 393 kms.
Kanpur – Lucknow – Heavy traffic.
Lucknow – Sitapur – Brilliant roads
Sitapur – Lakhimpur – Again Brilliant roads with a railway cross in between. Possibility to get stuck in that crossing. However, flyover work is under way.
Lakhimpur – Gola Golakarnath – Road construction underway for some 20 kms around Gola, poor roads. Rest all are fine.
Gola Gokarnath – Puranpur – Pilibhit Tiger Reserve – Khatima – Very good roads, except few kms after Gola Gokarnath. Tiger Reserve roads have decent tarmac and has a lot of speed breakers for obvious reasons. Exercise caution. Once you enter UK through Khatima, you have brilliant roads till Tanakpur

Start: 0800 hrs
End: 1800 hrs

Day 5: 9th Feb:
Tanakpur – Champawat – Lohagat – Pithoragarh – 155 KMS.

Ghat roads are awesome, but when the wide highway converts into narrow ones with a lot road construction work, and narrow ghat roads, roads were in tatters, understandably. A lot of land slides all along the way once you enter Ghats of Uttarakhand. Little did I know that this would be the scene until I exit UK ghats.  It started raining few kms outside Tanakpur and had company till Pithoragarh. Was riding in rain in the hills. A different experience.

Start: 0945 hrs
End: 1600 hrs

Day 6: 10th Feb:
Pithoragarh – Thal – Kwiti – Munsiyari – 130 kms

Pithoragarh – Thal – Kwiti – Ratapani, though the tarmac was good, a lot of landslides, and narrow cliff-hanger roads.
Ratapani – Kalamuni dwar – Munsiyari – A lot black ice and first time encounter with Black ice. Was scary esp when it descents. Dropped my bike once and learnt how to deal with black ice practically.

Start: 0830 hrs
End: 1500 hrs

Day 6,7,8 – Spent time chilling in Munsiyari with Panchahuli peaks for company all through day and night.

Day 9: 13th Feb:
MUnsiyari – Kwiti – Shama –Kopkote – Bageshwar – Gwaldam – Karnaprayag. – 240 kms

Munsiyari -  Kwiti Narrow roads with decent flow of traffic

Kwiti – Shama – 1.5 hrs stretch saw 2 cars in all. One stranded due to flat tire and another seems to be a local chilling on the narrow cliffs with their children. No traffic, with Ram ganga for company ranging from few feet to Many hundred feet alongside.
Shama – Kopkote – Bageshwar – Gwaldam – Scenery changes to pine forests (if I am right).
Gwaldam – Karanaprayag – Amazing highway with a lot of land slide and Trishul peak in sight for company. In this stretch – between Narain bagar and Bagoli road construction is going and leading to poor roads.

Start: 0830 hrs
End: 1830 hrs

Day 10: 14th Feb:
Karnaprayag – Rudraprayag – Ukhimat – Rudraprayag – Devprayag – Rishikesh – Haridwar – 281 kms

All through decent roads, except for road widening work at places, manageable roads and one has no choice, other than dealing with it. Devprayag, Rishikesh, Haridwar has brilliant roads. Watch out for landslide areas and shooting stones.

Start: 1015 hrs
End: 1900 hrs (Approx)

Day 11: 15th Feb:
Haridwar – Meerut (Bye pass)- Ghaziabad – YEH – Agra  - Gwalior – 532 Kms

Entered the city to see Taj Mahal at a distance and roads leading to Gwalior roads are a mess. Rajasthan – MP border has a lot of patches. Since my chain started making noise chose to settle down on a highway Hotel. Decided to get it sorted at a mechanic in the morning before proceeding further and called it a night.

Start: 1100 hrs (After visiting Ganga JI Ghat and had a nice break fast)
End : 1930 hrs

Day 12: 16th Feb:
Gwalior – Guna – Maksi – Ujjain – 494 Kms

After break fast left in search of a mechanic to get my chain sorted. Got it sorted and entered Shivpuri road through Gwalior city, wasted time and entered the main highway to Guna and there on.
Roads will Ujjain are flawless with very little traffic. Visited Ujjain Temples. Kaalbhairav ji, Temple, Harsiddhi Maa Temple and Mahakaal Ji Temple. Settled for the night after a good dinner.

Start: 0830 Hrs
End: 1830 hrs

Day 13: 17th Feb:
Ujjain – Indore – Pithampore – Dhule – Chalisgaon – Kannad – Aurangabad – Beed – 601 kms

After leaving Ujjain Jain had started giving trouble once again and got it rectified at a mechanic shed at Pithampore and moved on.

Ujjain – Dhule – Nothing to crib about except very poor patch works around before Dhule.
Dhule – Chalisgaon – Kannand Ghat entry – Lesser said the better. 60 kms of horrendous roads, with no sign of any on going road work. Take it easy. You may need an hour to two hours to cross this section depending on the railway gate closure.
Kannad Ghat Entry – Kannad Ghats – Aurangabad – Dhule – Brilliant roads. Nothing to crib about. Chain started to trouble again so decided to call it off a day at Beed, while my actual target was to reach Solapur.

Start: 0930 hrs
End: 1930 hrs

Day 14: 18th Feb:
Beed – Solapur – Vijayapura – Hospet – Chitradurga – Bangalore (ORR) – Krishnagiri – Vellore – Chennai – 1196 Kms

Beed to Solapur – covered in 2 hrs flat and found a Yamaha service centre to get my Chain sprocket changed – Second change. First was around 25K kms on the bike. Replaced disc brake pads and clutch cable too. After all the circus left Solapur at 1330 hrs.
Solapur – Hospet – C’Durga – Brilliant roads, but compensated by speed breakers at every possible junction. Near Kushtagi, front right shock’s oil seal broke and had to spend time fixing it. Rode back without changing it.
C’ Durga – Bangalore  - Breeze. Met couple of friends at Bangalore at 2230 and left Bangalore ORR around 2330.
Bangalore – Walaja – Good roads. Covered in less than 4 hrs including a 45 mt coffee break at CCD.
Walaja – Chennai – Avoidable if one could. Was kicking my butt for choosing to cross that stretch at 4 AM. Finally reached home at 5.45 Am.

Start: 0730 hrs (18th Feb)
End : 0545 hrs (19th Feb).

Completion of an uneventful ride.

This is just for road update. Any specific queries, feel free to ask.

An important note. From Solapur till Kushtagi you won't find a proper hotel for food. Plan your breaks accordingly. You may find roadside Dhabas, not sure for how many the food will suit. Did not try in any of those Dhabas since I was wary of oil used.

Overspeeding by a Ford Ecosport owner

A dunghead man (let's know him as Deb Man) is the owner of diesel powered Ford Ecosport. He drove at 150+ kmph and posted the video of his heroic act in another forum.

The verbatim caption for his post with the video read, "Shooting has not been proper n clear ... It's just a glimpse of the beast."

Following are a few excerpts from the comments section.
One Mr. Borah reminded him: "No build quality, EBD, ABS, Airbag saves lives, only careful driving saves lives, dont do that dost".

Deb Man: "just tested the performance after it crossed the age of 7 yrs. After that the driving was just normal. Thanks for ur concern bro. N u r absolutely right, fully loaded features cannot save lives."
One Mr. Pal said: "I touched 180".

Deb Man: "That's the capability of the beast".
One Mr. Bodiwala in the group warned: "Speed thrills but kills, this is india, anyone can get into".

Deb Man: "Road was vacant and vision was clear for long".
One Mr. Dey quipped: "Ford owners in this group and others are normally sensible. It is a request to act like one."

Dunghead Deb Man: "Swarnil Dey It's just to show the capability, at the end u can see that the speed reduced. If u dnt like kindly overlook the same. And this has been shared just to reveal the capability of Ecosport. And more or less, the Ford owners don't drive the vehicle like a Alto 800 atleast. So, u can think before talking about sensibility. And ofcourse, Ford is Ford."
Should this retard Deb Man crash his car and still survive (although, I earnestly want that he doesn't), he will click a dozen photos of his maimed car and post those on social media with the caption, "I am proud of the build quality of my Ford Ecosport. I survived without a scratch on my body"!

Dear responsible roadies in Indian Road and associated forums, going by discussions copied and pasted above, how would you prefer to describe the 'dunghead' Deb Man 🤔

Mercedes crashed into truck in Delhi Cantonment area on 2022-02-19, two killed

Two people died after a Mercedes car rammed into a truck in Delhi Cantonment area in the early hours of Saturday, 2022-02-19. Police rushed to the spot after being informed about the accident through a PCR call.

According to the police, a total of five individuals were travelling in the Mercedes car at the time of the accident. They were all returning home to Palam after attending a wedding in Faridabad.

Bystanders said the speeding car was going from Dhaula Kuan towards Gurugram when it rammed into a truck.
Two of the boys in the car, now identified as Vinod Kumar and Krishna Solanki, died in the accident. The other three - Nitin, Jitender and Karan Bhardwaj - suffered injuries and are under treatment.
The truck fled after the accident.
There are quite a few social media forums in India which are patronized by thousands of Detroit Returned Automobile Teniya, viz. the self proclaimed car experts who would have laughed their guts out had this car been a Maruti or Hyundai or a Mahindra Scorpio.

The same bunch of retards after reading that it was a Merc will ooze out whatever little liquid their top storey has!

After all, their moms went to hospital to give them birth riding Hummers on 3 wheels!

The 76,468th or 3,29,427th rank holders in JEE who bought degrees in Artificial Intelligence will tell us that had this not been a Merc nobody would have survived.

Ganga Expressway gets initial nod

The much-talked about project of BJP government has got an initial go-ahead from an environment ministry committee in mid February 2022 despite concerns over the huge number of trees which has to be cut.

The 594 km long six-lane expressway is set to be built at a cost of over Rs 36,200 crore. Upon completion, it will become the longest expressway of Uttar Pradesh, connecting the western and eastern regions of the state going through 12 districts alongside river Ganga, a statement by the PMO said.

It will involve a diversion of approximately 121.47 hectares of forest land and the approval is pending with the forest division of the ministry.  What distressed the EAC was that the project proponent, Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority, said the alignment will involve cutting of around 1,80,793 trees and a majority (93%) of them in forest land.

“Tree cutting is very high, which should be minimised. It should be mentioned in the EIA report which type of trees are going to be felled, whether it is commercial plantation or natural plantation/vegetation."

“The alignment of the road should be such that the cutting of trees is kept at a bare minimum and for this, the proponent shall obtain permission from the competent authorities. Alignment should also be such that it will avoid cutting old and large and heritage trees if any."

"All such trees should be geo-tagged, photographed and details submitted in the EIA-EMP (environment management plan) report,” noted the committee as it accorded the ToR.

It said the proponent shall carry out a comprehensive socio-economic assessment and the project’s impact on bio-diversity with emphasis on the impact of land acquisition.

After inaugurating the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Varanasi, PM Modi had layed the foundation stone of this Ganga Expressway project.

Engine mount of Tata Nexon owned by Rajan Thakur broke on 2022-02-04

It happened with Rajan Thakur, owner of a Tata Nexon on 2022-02-04. While driving on a smooth stretch of road, he had suddenly heard a rough noise from under the bonnet. On stopping the car, he found that engine mount bolts were broken and the engine was bent.
His obvious query  ....  is the car so delicately built that engine mounts can break even on smooth roads.

(Copied from another forum on Facebook)
When will Tata Motors Ltd stop experimenting and build niggles free cars? Ever since the early 1990s, the company is trying to build a trouble free machine on 4 wheels.
The spike in sales of certain models from the TML stable in December 2021/ January 2022 doesn't imply that they have rectified everything. Number of metrics can be attributed to the growth in numbers.

We in Indian Roadie and Tata Brand Admirers  fully empathize with the harrowing experience of Rajan Thakur.
