Bamboo crash barrier installed in Maharashtra in March 2023 on a trial basis

World’s first 200 mtrs long bamboo crash barrier (in lieu of iron barriers) has been installed on a highway connecting Chandrapur and Yavatmal districts in Maharashtra. MORTH announced the same on Saturday 2023-03-04.

Named ‘Bahu Balli’, the bamboo crash barrier has undergone 'rigorous testing' at various government run institutions like the National Automotive Test Tracks (NATRAX) in Pithampur, Indore and was rated as Class 1 during the Fire Rating Test conducted at the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) in Roorkee. It has also been accredited by the Indian Road Congress.

In the event of a crash, the damage caused because of the impact will be far less severe. The bamboo crash barriers will result in substantial savings of public money.

The bamboo species used in the making of this barrier is Bambusa Balcoa, which has been treated with creosote oil and coated with recycled High Density Poly Ethylene (HDPE). This achievement is remarkable for the bamboo sector and India as a whole, as this crash barrier offers a perfect alternative to steel and addresses environmental concerns and their aftermath.

Road trip to Shibnivas, PS Krishnaganj, Majdia, Nadia district, West Bengal inDecember 2013

We got a chance to visit Shibnivas, Thana-Krishnaganj, Majdia, Nadia district, West Bengal on 29-Dec-2013 by a hired Bolero. Road distance from Krishnanagar is approximately 40km and from Majdia 5km.

We crossed a bamboo bridge on Churni River before the Lord Shiva Temple. It was foggy day hence visibility was very very poor in the morning. But fortunately only we were there for prayer.

The largest Shiv Linga is measuring 2.7m in height and 6.7m in circumference (including spout). The black stone is the main attraction of Shibniwas. There is a stair about 1m to lead the devotees to pour water on the giant linga.

Maha Shiv Ratri was on 4th Mar 2019, so I thought, this place should be shared with you.

Someone in another forum for Tata Nexon owners went for PDI (pre delivery inspection) on 2022-12-24 and found the following issues in his 'Desh Ka Loha', a brand which cherishes in screaming 'Vocal For Local'. I am reproducing his post verbatim. He sought for advice from members in that Facebook group on what he should do ....
Today PDI completed for nexon xm s and below issue observed kindly comments.
1) Rear side door and Bonet side panel fitting not proper.
2) Boot upper side welding observed porosity and welding crack.
3) Odometer reading 111.5km, dealer says due to road transport from rajangaon.
4) Out of 4 glass 3 glass observed closing is not proper (glass just close but sound of proper closing is not observed)
5) Please confirm Xm S  model rear seat don't have head rest.
6) Please confirm Xm s model don't see voice during mode change.
7) Driver side cabinet light loose.
8) Break padel observed loose.
My reply:

DON'T TAKE EVEN IF THERE IS ONE FAULT. You are are not buying a handcrafted car riddled with nighles. Going by your words, if I would have been present along with you, I would have found 15 more glaring faults.
My fellow Indian Roadie members do invite me to test drives and PDIs. With my eye for details even showroom GMs are left flabbergasted because they don't have an answer for the issues pointed out by me!

Toyota Fortuner 2017 Sigma4 totalled after crashing into stationary truck at extremely high speed in mid-March 2023. 2 persons lost their lives.
A section of the media have reported that the Fortuner could have been at well over 140 kmph at the time of mishap.

These two would have been alive today had somebody told them that #BuildQualityOfDriversBrainMatters.

CEO of IT co died during morning walk after being hit by a Tata Nexon in Worli on 2023-03-19

A 42-year-old CEO of a tech firm died after being knocked down by a car at Worli sea-face promenade in south Mumbai during her morning walk. The deceased Rajalakshmi Vijay was the CEO of Altruist Technologies, an IT and telecommunication firm in Mumbai.

The accident took place near Worli Milk Dairy at around 6.30 am on
Sunday 2023-03-19 and the woman was thrown away several feet up in the air when the vehicle hit her.

After the incident, the local people caught the 23 years old driver of the Tata Nexon car, Sumer Merchant, and handed him to the Worli police. Eyewitnesses informed the police that the car was at a very high speed.
P.S: Whenever I write about the 'chapri' behavioral traits of a large chunk of Tata Nexon owners, there are many who charge at me with bared fangs. Umpteen number of times I have written that those sizeable chunk of DKL owners are retards who don't care a f**k about the lives of others. The brand positioning of Tata cars make them behave the way they use their car. They are happy as long as they themselves are safe. I understand insights better than those who keep thanking the octogenarian head of the corporate group that also manufactures this toppler car. Indian Roadie is committed to shaming them and naming them and their apologists. I am paranoid and keep praying that some of those idiots don't cause physical or material harm to me, my dear ones and close acquaintances.

It's an earnest request to all members/ followers of Indian Roadie and associated forums to take it upon themselves to educate their brethrens to be responsible on the road.

Street art at Bhangar, WB for Saraswati Puja on 2019-02-10

Saraswati Puja was celebrated with lots of fanfare throughout West Bengal on Sunday,  2019-02-10. For the uninitiated, Ma Saraswati in Hinduism is Goddess of Learning and Knowledge.
The young and talented students of Bamanghata High School in Bhangar, South 24 Parganas district (about 12 kms from Science City in Kolkata) also celebrated #SaraswatiPuja and for creativity, displayed their penchant for art with brush and colors on a stretch of 1 km tarmac road in their village.
There were no political heavyweights or celebrities to grace their Puja celebration. The paid media (read, bootlickers) were too busy elsewhere.
The efforts of these kids hailing from rural households with very limited means drew the attention of an Indian Roadie Citizen Journalist.
The kids with immense potential deserve your kudos, praises and blessings.

While on a drive from Udaipur to Mumbai (Udaipur_Mumbai) or Udaipur to Pune (Udaipur_Pune), Daman makes for a pretty nice halt to get the 'beach vibes'. Although not as pretty or popular as Goa, Daman has its own beauty and a quaint slow-pace vibe of its own.
Devka Beach and Jampore Beach are the two places along with a Portuguese fort in Jampore.

Being a UT, Daman gives you access to cheap booze in the midst of a dry state hence it is a pretty popular place with the neighbors. So plan you stay/ hotel bookings ahead of time to avoid any painful moments in what is otherwise a lovely place to be.

Konkan's Chakwa

𝙆𝙤𝙣𝙠𝙖𝙣'𝙨 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙠𝙬𝙖

Konkan is a beautiful land sandwiched between the mighty green Western Ghats & serene Arabian Sea stretching from Northern Maharashtra to Goa. The locals do not recommend a road trip to Konkan beaches during the night as travellers share "strange" experiences who have attempted night drives. These strange experiences are locally called Chakwa. The Chakwa is a spirit in Konkan's culture which is harmless but playful & derives pleasure by misleading their way/route. Its presumably active only at night & its power diminishes at dawn as the locals claim.

This happened with us on 14 April 2018 when we were heading to Anjarle Turtle Festival from Pune. The plan was to reach Anjarle by evening so we did leave the city around 12:30 in the afternoon. But due to the traffic caused by Ambedkar Jayanti processions, we were behind our schedule. It was pitch dark when we crossed Mandangad at 8:30 pm. We were 10 people in two cars, 5 passengers in each car so we didn't get bored during the journey but were exhausted due to hunger.

The ghats & winding roads started & no person was to be seen on the road. The only lights on the streets were the car's headlights. We were driving the cars at constant speed maintaining safe distance between both the cars so as to not lose the path.

Suddenly, out of nowhere a rabbit crossed the road & to save it my friend applied the brakes quickly. The car behind us also stopped & enquired whether we were ok. We five of us did actually see the rabbit but we were surprised by its sudden disappearence. We saw there was a huge flowering tree besides us & a rusted board which had something written but wasn't clear.

We decided to let my other friend driving the second car take the lead while we followed them. My friends were driving extra cautiously now since there was no network & Google maps was useless at that point. We were now following the milestones & boards to reach our destination, when suddenly my friend driving the car ahead stopped. This time we didn't come out of the car & neither did they. Thirty seconds passed in sheer silence. Without getting of the car, my friend went next to the other car to check. We all were flabbergasted to see the same rabbit ahead on the middle of the road with its eyes shining in the car's headlights..!! My other friend exclaimed, "See to your left..!! Its the same rusted board & huge flowering tree..!!" We all were horrified & shocked by this when finally we saw a tempo traveller. He stopped to enquire us & told us to follow him as he too was heading to Anjarle.
We had enough adventure for the day so we quietly followed him & reached the hotel at 10:30 pm!

Science behind the "strange" experience:

Konkan area is home to many native flowering trees which release a certain aroma at night for protection from animals. The released aroma in the air hallucinates people present in certain radius of the tree. Therefore, people tend to get lost in these areas at night. Hence the term 'chakwa'. About the sighting of rabbit by all of us could be an example of shared psychosis.

Thank you, Satyam. Very well written 👍

Tenacity Rejuvenation Drive - 2. Leaving Pune on 2013-03-10

Ready to embark on a 7,263 kms solo drive, codenamed Tenacity Rejuvenation 2 from Pune (RIBM, near Katraj) on 10th March 2013 at 5 am with an objective to combine hectic work and pleasure.
Route for Day 1:
Pune - Ahmednagar - Aurangabad - Jalna - Sindhkhed Raja - Mehekar - Malegaon - KaranjaLad - Salod - Pulgaon - Wardha - Nagpur (750 kms).
Checked-in at Hotel Sunny International, near Lokmat Square, Nagpur at 7.30 pm.
My mission was to prove a point and show how a new generation University affiliated/ AICTE approved business school needs to be promoted and administered.
Even after the hotel check-in at Nagpur at 7.30 pm, more back to back meetings continued upto 1.30 am.
People keep asking me why am I always seen in formal attire even on super long drives spread over many days. Ever since August 1985 most of my long drives are for work wherein I need to meet people with different demographic profiles. They range from the automobile mechanic bathed in engine oil and grease to truck drivers to farmers to retailers to corporate honchos to school/ college students to school/ college Principals. I have no other choice but to be formally attired right from say 5 am to 12 midnight with back to back meetings and simultaneously covering 750+ kms during the day!
Note the date and time of click, viz. 2013-03-10 4:54 hrs which was during the famously coded Tenacity Rejuvenation - 2 / TR - 2 drive.
Remembering the long drives crisscrossing India for work (starting and ending in Pune everytime) in my Mahindra Scorpio Micro Hybrid (Special Edition) in 2012-13 which resulted in the rollout of #IndianRoadie in May 2013.
I used to be mighty happy with my unbeatable #MightyMuscularScorpio / #MahindraScorpio.

A signage board in Siliguri (WB) which gives roadies a decent idea of the distances and motoring route to Kurseong, Ghoom, Darjeeling.

The ubiquitous white letterings on green overhead road signages give roadies a fair idea of which place is where and the distances of places from where the photos are clicked.
Get your bearings right by reading these boards.

I (Deep Banerjee, Founder - Indian Roadie and associated forums) never use online navigation maps while on highways. The overhead signage boards are my best bet.

Indian Roadie Drive For Food with Adv Abhijit Sarkar to Chowrasia Chats, Salt Lake on 2023-03-10

We fellow roadies keep ourselves busy with our own profession but keep meeting up at the slightest pretext.
On Friday 2023-03-10, Indian Roadie Adv Abhijit Sarkar phoned me at around 3.45 pm saying that he was close to my place and if it would be possible for me to meet up for a fast bite since he had about 90 odd minutes to spare before his next scheduled professional meeting. By 4.15 pm I was already seated in his Ford Ecosport. We leisurely drove to Chowrasia Chats, HB290, Sec - 3, Salt Lake.

It was a true Indian Roadie Drive For Food before he dropped me back somewhere on the EM Bypass.

Tenacity Rejuvenation Drive - 1. Leaving Puri on 2013-01-13

That's me, Deep Banerjee, Founder - Indian Roadie and Associated ForumsOfIndian Roadie, with my Mahindra Scorpio during sunrise in Puri, Odisha in mid January 2013.

Two hectic days of interactive corporate training, with me as the trainer ended the previous night at 11.45 pm.

On that particular chilly morning while everybody slept peacefully, cosily tucked under blankets, I was heading to Visakhapatnam for the onward journey to Pune via Rajahmundry, Vijaywada, Hyderabad, Sholapur.

The solo drive for work (a passion to develop a VC funded B-school as a Centre of Excellence in Sales & Marketing studies) originated from Pune on 2012-12-20 and concluded in Pune on 2013-01-16 after covering 5720 kms.

P.S: Note my fetish for squeaky clean wheels.

FaBo threw up another case of a DKL (desh ka loha/ vocal for local) Altroz owner who banged his car into another car in March 2023 and felt proud of it 😡.

Insights study of typical behavioral traits of most nouveau rich first time car buyers reveal that they mostly choose brands from Tata Motors passenger vehicles because they strongly believe that the NCAP rating will save their lives after crashing their cars. Listed below are how they use their cars and how they behave after crashing.

First, one particular brand of DKL owners go about banging their cars on all other road users to check the build quality of their DKL. Nobody does that intentionally, it's just that they are irresponsible and incapable drivers who are NOT #HighOnCognition.

Second, they thank the octogenarian Chairman of the company that manufactured the car.

Third, the ones who crash are mostly nouveau rich first time car buyers. After crashing realization dawns into them that a substantial sum of money will have to be spent from their savings. Naturally, they go about asking every Tom, Dick and Harry on social media about possible expenses to get their DKL roadworthy. It has been observed that fanbois of the brand  comment figures which are far from reality.

Fourth, the owner of the incapacitated DKL starts enquiring about insurance claim procedures and the possible outgo from pocket.

Fifth, the DKL owner gets back his car from the workshop after 3 - 5 months with the feeling that he has got back his car in factory finish condition, which in reality is far from truth.

Indian Roadie is committed to seeing matured roadies and not fanbois on road! There will be no stop in exposing the wrongdoers (squid drivers).

Drive responsibly. You don't have to test everything what the car manufacturers claim. Always remember that #BuildQualityOfDriversBrainMatters.
#IndianRoadie is committed to spreading this message for the well being of every road user.

P.S: Needless to mention, there are a lot of responsible and matured DKL owners. It should be their responsibility to correct the squid drivers who bring shame to the responsible ones. Instead of feeling offended, the responsible ones should use social media to correct their irresponsible brethrens.
