Road trip to Baguran Jalpai Beach by Sudip Paul with family in Maruti Alto on 2022-03-22

Road trip to Baguran Jalpai Beach in East Midnapore district, West Bengal by Indian Roadie Sudip Paul with family on Sunday, 2022-03-22.

It was originally planned to be a 'Holi 2022 Junput Beach Drive' of Indian Roadie group members and followers. However, due to certain exigencies the group drive had to be postponed at the last moment.

Sudip's family was totally geared up for the group drive. With school exams over, his daughters were particularly excited. Postponing the drive to the sea beach would have saddened the little girls. Sudip decided on continuing with the drive with his two daughters and wife.

The family left home at Dumdum, Kolkata in their Maroon beauty (Alto LXI 2006 model) sharp at 5:15 am. First stop was at Azad Hind Dhaba, Uluberia at 6:00 am for an hour for breakfast. They reached Baguran Jalpai Beach at 9:15 am via Kolaghat, Nandakumar, Contai. Road was excellent all throughout.
Sudip has advised us fellow roadies not to enter  Contai town but drive to the planned destination via Rupasi bypass.

The Baguran Jalpai Beach has still retained its serenity with thousands of red crabs 🦀 playing hide and seek all over the wide expanse of clean sand. Since there is only one resort for stay and the beach is still not accessible by public transport (as in March 2022), the sleepy fishing village has retained its virginity and is yet to become popular with noisy tourists from Kolkata and adjoining locations.

Roadies visiting Baguran Jalpai Beach can enjoy a swim in the cool waters of this particular stretch of Bay of Bengal. However, one shouldn't expect the luxury of any dedicated changing rooms/ washrooms.
The family decided to drive ahead to Mandarmoni Beach 🏖️ as Sudip's daughters wanted to wet themselves in the sea.

There is a bridge under construction on sea dyke road which in the next few years will shorten the intermediate distance between the beaches from Contai to Digha thereby avoiding the hassles of driving via NH116B.

Since the road along the beach is still under construction, Sudip Paul had to return to Contai and follow NH116B until Chawlkhola to reach Mandarmoni Beach (Dadonpatrobar).

They reached Mandarmoni Beach at 12:20 pm, took a room at one of the sea side hotels for 3 - 4 hours for resting and changing of wet clothes. After a quick lunch they spent 2 hours frolicking in the sea at Mandarmoni.

After freshening up the family started the return journey at 4:45 pm via Chawlkhola, Nandakumar, Kolaghat. They reached the intersection of NH16, Kolaghat only at 9:10 pm due to unprecedented traffic jam for almost 7 - 8 kms in between Nachinda and Henria.  Over 2 hours were wasted because of pathetic traffic management on a day when thousands of vacationers in cars were on their way back to Kolkata and surroundings after Holi.

After dinner at Express Dhaba, Kolaghat, they started the final lap of drive of about 70 odd kms at 10:00 pm and reached home in Dumdum at 11:15 pm.

Although it was a hectic day, but at the end of it everyone was mighty satisfied.

Total distance traveled - 390 kms.
Total toll paid - Rs 250 outward, Rs 155 while returning.

Passengers cars, including Tata Nexon, from the Tata Motors Ltd stable are notoriously unreliable ever since the truck and bus manufacturer launched their 1st PV (Tatamobile 207) way back around 1990. Here's one Tata Nexon owner whose car shifts to neutral while driving.

Alternate highway NH717A to Sikkim bypassing Coronation Bridge and NH10

Construction of alternate highway NH717A to Sikkim bypassing Coronation Bridge and NH10 is ongoing in April 2022. It starts from Bagrakote (NH17) in West Bengal and terminates at Ranipool (Sikkim). It is a strategically important highway as it runs in Indian territory along Bhutan, China and Bangladesh border. This highway would also enhance the connectivity among villages in Sikkim, reduce the distance between Pakyong Airport and capital city Gangtok by 2.5 km and greatly benefit the common people of Sikkim.

Road trip from Delhi to Nainital and back by Rishi Sinha in October 2019

Road trip from Delhi to Nainital (Delhi_Nainital)/ Bhimtal and back by Rishi Sinha in October 2019 ...

* Delhi to Nainital via Pilkhuwa, Gajraula, Moradabad Bypass, Bazpur, Kaladhungi, Khurpatal.
* Pilkhuwa is now 6-laned till Hapur bypass. Speed limit is 100 kmph.
* Post that till Moradabad Bypass is 4-laned, smooth roads.
* Moradabad Bypass to Bazpur till kaladhungi is 2-laned with lots of local 2-wheeler traffic. It gets too narrow at some stretch.
* Kaladhungi to Nainital via Khurpatal is mix of good and bad roads, once the climb starts there are some broken patches.
* You save entry fee from this route and also save one toll on NH-9
* Nainital to Delhi via Kathgodam, Rudrapur, Rampur, Gajraula
* Till Kathgodam roads are good, wide enough as compared to the Khurpatal road.
* Crossing Kathgodam-Haldwani was smooth, albeit lot of traffic.
* Rudrapur-Haldwani road to Patharchatta is just awesome!
* The entire stretch from Rudrapur to Rampur via Bilaspur is in a mess! Too many diversions. Lost a lot of time here.
* Rampur to Delhi was smooth via NH9
* Onward journey took 5.5 hours
* Return took 7.5 hours
* The Bhowali-Jeolikote stretch upto Kartik Resort was the best part, 2-laned road, all smooth, not a single pothole! A driver's paradise.

Delhi to Nainital - Indian Roadie Preferred Route, Motoring Route, best route

Indian Roadie Preferred Route, Motoring Route, Driving Route, Road Route, best route for road trip from

Delhi to Nainital
(Delhi_Nainital):

Stick to the usual NH9 route, viz. Delhi - Moradabad - Rampur - Bilaspur - Rudrapur - Haldwani.
Thereafter, Kathgodam - Ranibagh - Nainital.

Do not take the Bazpur/ Tanda/ Suar or any other internal SH/MDR routes.
Start by 0500 from Delhi using this route Delhi - Moradabad - Rampur - Bilaspur - Rudrapur - Haldwani - Jyolikot - Nainital.

Don't take Haldwani - Bhimtal - Bhowali road because the Bhimtal bridge is narrow and has long jams.

Bazpur Road is best avoided (as in March 2022) due to broken roads in Moradabad - Tanda section.

Irresponsible parking of Zen Estillo by Amiya Dutta on 2022-03-05 afternoon

My neighbours, viz. the Dutta siblings (Amiya and Arun) of 66H Suren Sarkar Road, Beliaghata, Kolkata - 700010 feel that the entire common lane in front of their house and my house in Beliaghata, Kolkata are their inherited property.

On Saturday, 2022-03-05 after returning home from work at around 2.30 pm, I found Amiya Dutta's Maruti Zen Estillo parked just about 10 feet ahead of the iron gates of my garage. Even while I took about 45 minutes to clean my car outside the entrance to my hous before keeping it inside the garage, I saw Amiya peeping  from his balcony. However, he remained unmoved and did not climb down to remove his car.
I had to ultimately walk down to his house and call him from the road to draw his attention. Initially, he feigned to have any knowledge about how his car reached the spot where his car was parked. He kept saying, "kaar gaari, kon gaari". Then he said that his driver kept it there. When I insisted that he should stop behaving like a zamindar of the area and that the lane was not their mutated property he tried to find faults in my English. I had to make him aware in no uncertain terms that the security guards of institutions where I gained my education from wouldn't even allow him entry through the hallowed gates.

With absolute reluctance he agreed to remove his car. Thereafter, I drove my car forward and had to wait for about 7 - 8 minutes for Amiya to arrive at a leisurely pace from 2 plots down the lane.

After a lot of struggle, Amiya managed to crank and move his car forward his car. It was only after that, when I could back up my VW Vento inside the garage.

The siblings have no regards for inconvenience they cause to others. In spite of repeated requests and reminders they keep parking their cars WB06H1392 (Zen Estilo) and WB08K3995 (Tara Tiago) anywhere they feel like on the same lane where my house (66K) is located.

For them their attitude is invariably, If_I_Am_Fine_Everything_Is_Fine.

Lady riding scooty in Udupi miraculously escaped death on 2022-03-08

The lady in her scooty had a miraculously escaped death n the mishap which occurred in Udupi, Karnataka on 2022-03-08 in broad day light.
Pedestrians, two wheelers, four wheelers tend to make the same kind of mistake almost all over the world.
The lady could have easily waited for about 1 - 2 minutes and allowed the parked bus to pass by. That would have enabled her to have a clear view on her right and stay clear of the blind spot looming large.
Posting video of the incident is aimed at sensitizing fellow roadies in Indian Roadie and associated forums.
