British tourist on a Lamborghini joyride In Dubai, racks up Rs 44 Lakh in speeding fines

What happens when we are unaware of the law and order of another country? Should we not have things clear in our heads while roaming a foreign land? From as basic as greeting someone to driving laws, we need to know every bit of it, unlike this man who because of speeding was fined for $65,000.

That's roughly Rs 44,66,475!

Farah Hashi (25), a tourist from Newport (Britain) visiting Dubai, rented the yellow Lamborghini Huracan and went on a supercar joy ride and ended up getting fined an insane amount.

Between 2.31 am and 6.26 am on July 31, the tourist tripped 33-speed radars on the road, incurring 33 fines as a result on one of the city’s busiest highways - Sheikh Zayed Road.

According to the Dubai Police records, he sped between 126 km/h and 230 km/h, constantly setting off radars as he drove.

To add to the misery, the man left his passport as a guarantee when he hired the $480,000 luxury supercar from Mohammad Ebrahim, the owner. As the vehicle owner, the car rental business is now liable to pay about Dh175,000 in accumulated fines — plus additional fees to recover the supercar that will be impounded.

There is no exact procedure to what should be done in such offences because radars capture the license plate numbers of speeding vehicles, not the people driving them.

The car rental owner was advised to go to court seeking compensation as the police cannot really interfere.
