HMSI launched 2 ev scooters on 2024-11-27

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has on Wednesday 2024-11-27 marked its foray in the electric two wheeler market with two scooter models – Activa e and QC1. Without sharing their price, the company showcased the Activa e with swappable battery technology and the QC1 in a fixed battery setup.

Built on a new scalable platform, both the models will be produced at the two wheeler maker’s Narasapura plant in Karnataka with an annual production target of 1 lakh units for the first year.

The Japanese automaker will announce the price of the two models and open their bookings in January 2025. Deliveries are set to commence from February onwards.

Currently, electric two-wheeler penetration in India stands at approximately 6%. In the period from January to October 2024, the segment recorded over 9.54 lakh units sold, reflecting a year-on-year growth of over 30%, compared to 6.92 lakh units in the same period of 2023. Ola Electric, a new-age EV manufacturer, currently leads the market, while established players like TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto are intensifying the competition.

Ashok Leyland’s new EV facility in Lucknow is poised to transform the region’s economic landscape

Economic impact, employment opportunities from Ashok Leyland’s new EV plant in Lucknow

Ashok Leyland’s new EV facility in Lucknow is poised to transform the region’s economic landscape. Ajay Hinduja emphasizes its role as a catalyst for job creation and sustainable growth. This state-of-the-art plant underscores the Hinduja Group’s commitment to fostering local development while advancing India’s green mobility vision.

Creating Employment Opportunities

There are expected propensities of the direct and indirect job opportunities that this development of Lucknow EV facility may bring to people at different levels, experience, and skills. Hundreds of specialized personnel have been part of the initial employment of the plant, including engineers, technicians, and assembly-line workers. More jobs will be available in areas like production, logistics, maintenance, quality control, and administrative services as the pace of production increases and promises a variety of challenges that would be of interest to people from different parts of the region.

The indirect job creation multiplier effect goes beyond direct employment at the plant. For every job created inside the facility, it is likely that several indirect jobs will be created in the vicinity. This is due to the increase in income generated within the locality fuelling demand for products and services from such sectors as health, retail, food services, transport, and housing. Furthermore, it is expected that increased business will come the way of the smaller enterprises due to higher orders with Ashok Leyland's penchant for using local suppliers and vendors; hence broadening the entire spectrum of employment.
