Tesla’s reliance on camera-based “Full Self-Driving” (FSD) tech recently failed to detect and avoid a deer, hitting it without stopping.
The collision, shared by the driver on social media, left the car damaged but reportedly didn’t trigger any response from FSD to slow down or transfer control back to the driver.
Critics argue this incident highlights a potential need for LiDAR sensors, which detect objects in 3D, to handle unexpected obstacles that Tesla’s vision-only system may miss.
