Hindu signage on rear windshield of cab spotted in Kolkata on 2025-01-09

The bold sticker with the word HINDU on the rear windshield of the cab filled my heart. It's the need of the day in Waste Bengal.

Spotted at a traffic signal while exiting Salt Lake, near Parivesh Bhawan, Kolkata on Thursday 2025-01-09 evening.

'Garb se kaho hum HINDU hai' ❤

Kms Of India - Life of a bare HCV chasis driver

Heat wave, cold wave, rain, hailstorm, blizzard, day, night, dry roads, flooded roads, smooth expressways, broken state highways ..... the drivers in open cabins with barely a canvas canopy (or even nothing at all) brave it all to earn a rightful living for themselves and their dear ones at home. Life is not same for everyone. We crib even after having all possible comforts in life.

On his drive from Bangalore to Goa in August 2023 with wife, Indian Roadie Sriram Shankar spotted the driver of a new Ashok Leyland chasis who was driving it from the factory to some dealer to some unknown location, sleeping on the floor of the chasis. Neither was there a comfortable mattress nor was there any fancy pillow.

Let's thank almighty for whatever material comfort or infrastructure we have and not crib.

Kms Of India - Goods carrier Tempo spotted in Madhopur, Punjab in 2018

Spotted this grand old Tempo 3 wheeler at a filling station in Madhopur, Punjab.
Only a handful of these are still seen ferrying people and goods in some pockets of rural and semi-urban India.
The design is intriguing because the two rear wheels had an inwards slant of nearly 30 degrees at the points of contact with the road. As the load increased, the wheels straightened up.

P.S: This is a repost from the Indian Roadie 'page' where the content was posted for the first time on 2018-10-27.

Kms Of India - AC in a cottage in HP to temporarily preserve fruits, vegetables

Spotted by a roadie somewhere in Himachal Pradesh in August 2023.
The AC has been installed as a stopgap 'jugaad' (hack) to prevent vegetables and fruits from rotting even before those are transported to 'mandis' (retail/ wholesale markets).

To spot these unique scenes from across India, a true roadie must follow a strict policy of No Planned Night Driving. Indian Roadie and associated forums have no sympathies for zombies who drive for clocking social media likes/ views.

Kms Of India - mobile tyre repair shop in Rajgarh, Rajasthan

After widening of National Highway commenced in Rajgarh, Rajasthan, about 65 kms from Churu (the district HQ) , a tyre puncture repair shop went out of business because his roadside shop was pulled down. The shop owner invested about ₹1 lakh and bought an old Mahindra jeep in mid 2023. He installed all his equipments, including the air compressor on his jeep and became a mobile tyre repairwala.

Kms Of India - Tempo being used as passenger vehicle in Punjab

Popular mode of public transport which can be spotted even on National Highways in Punjab in 2023.
'Bhatsuar' was what these vehicles were called because of its looks, in certain parts of India.
In some places, people used to call these 'Ganeshji'!

The design was intriguing because the two rear wheels had an inwards slant of nearly 30 degrees at the points of contact with the road. As the load increased, the wheels straightened up.

A true roadie will drive with his eyes wide open during the day to spot these rare gems of yesteryears.
Therefore, vote for No Planned Night Driving.

Kms Of India - Milestone near Shaktigarh while enroute from Kolkata to Varanasi

A milestone on NH19 (erstwhile, NH2) near Shaktigarh (famous for 'lyangcha' sweets) in West Bengal while driving from Kolkata to Varanasi was spotted sometime in 2013.

These ubiquitous milestones on National Highways may not be visible at all anywhere in India by 2030.

Kms Of India - Replica of Chandrayaan to be carried from Kolkata to Tarakeswar for Sravan Festival 2023-08

These are not students of any of the famous engineering colleges but are humble kids who live in the slums around Panditiya Road (as you can make out from the images in the background) in Kolkata 700029 and yet, so enamoured are they of India's space program that they have painstakingly built this replica of Chandrayaan and will be carrying this to the famous Shiv Temple at Tarakeshwar (for the annual Sravan festival) to have it blessed by Bhagwan Shiv and ensure its safe and successful descent on the Lunar surface. I am sure that the Lord who carries the Moon in the matted locks of his hair will listen to their prayers (and mine too!) and allow Chandrayaan to make a safe, soft landing on the Moon.

Kms Of India - Construction worker hung baby on a sling

Spotting a lady building construction worker with her child hanging from a sling on her body somewhere in West Bengal or Karnataka or Punjab, stopping by, interacting with her through verbal and non-verbal communication, understanding her compulsions, hearing her language, getting to know more about her life, etc, etc is what makes driving immensely interesting for me, Deep Banerjee, Founder of Indian Roadie and the associated forums.

For me, road trips are not just about travelling from Place A to Place B and driving like a zombie at night or day at 80 or 140 or 150 kms per hour. For me, irrespective of how often I have driven on a road/ route, every kilometre is interesting for me. Road trips for me are just not about crunching kilometres on the odometer.

In a huge country like India with diverse culture and socio-economic demographics and psychographics, every kilometre of India can be interesting and a learning process provided one has the propensity and intellect to spot those. The lady in the picture lives to work evolve enjoy life.
This is her profession. She too laughs, cries, dreams of a better tomorrow. Irrespective of my presence, life must go on for her.

For a matured roadie of the likes in IndianRoadie (and associated forums), road trips are not just about driving 500 kms or 2500 kms to watch the rising or setting sun, to watch the snow capped peaks of mountains or shifting dunes of the desert or whatever. Groove your child, spouse, partner, co-passengers to learn and appreciate these.

Do you truly agree or don't agree with my viewpoints?
