A violent confrontation (road rage), reportedly stemming from a family dispute, took place at Chikholi area on the Kalyan-Badlapur Road in Thane district of Maharashtra near S3 Park Hotel on Tuesday 2024-08-20 evening.
In the video which has gone viral, Satish Kumar Sharma (38) seen driving a black coloured Tata Safari SUV rammed into the door of his father's white coloured Toyota Fortuner SUV, before taking a U-turn and striking his father's white SUV head-on, injuring four persons including three family members aboard the white car.
The reason behind Satish Sharma's fury was a domestic dispute. Satish had suspected that his wife and his cousin Pravin were in an illicit relationship. This led to a tiff between Satish and Pravin, following which his wife decided to live with her in-laws in south Mumbai.
Satish Sharma's father, a retired Navy official, drove to Badlapur on Tuesday to resolve the dispute and also to take along his daughter-in-law and six-year-old grandson with him to his own south Mumbai residence. This infuriated Satish even more. He started a heated argument with his father and Pravin's brother Vikas. The argument had turned into a scuffle at home.
Later, Satish's wife and son left Badlapur for south Mumbai with Satish's father. While they were at Chikholi, a furious Satish kept following his father and crashed his Safari against his father's Fortuner.
Police arrested Sharma on charges of attempted murder and under other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and produced him before a local court on Wednesday. Following this, Sharma was sent to police custody till August 23.
The Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Department (MMVD) will initiate procedure to cancel Satish's driving license once the police probe is over.
