Chennai to Goa road trip by Sunil Thomas in VW Vento during Independence Day 2017 holidays
Indian Roadie fan/ member, Sunil Thomas drove from Chennai to Goa and back with family in his VW Vento during the long weekend holidays of Independence Day 2017.
This is what he had to report about the drive:
The route from Chennai is via Bangalore.
From Bangalore to Goa there are at least 4 major routes depending on whether you are staying at South Goa or North Goa. Again you have a choice between exploring places in between or taking the shortest route.
Usual route is Bangalore - Tumkur - Hubbali - Belgaum - Goa for North Goa.
For South Goa it is either Bangalore - Mangalore - Jog Falls - Gokarna route (longer route for sight seeing) or shorter route of Bangalore -
Hubbali - Ankola - Karwar - Goa (fantastic roads).
Another option is to travel via Dandeli, mostly ghats and scenic 2 way roads, less traffic.
For central Goa, the ideal route is via Hubbali - Dharwad - Anmod Ghat.
Ideal time to leave Bangalore is 2 am if you want to check in to your resort for beer and lunch! If not, at least start by 4 am or you get stuck in traffic.
Again if you love peaceful nature, stay at south Goa. But if you love to rock and party hard, its north Goa. Best is to divide your stay between south and north!
Tip: Watch out for unmarked speed breakers during the drive!
