The best route for people travelling from anywhere in South India (via NH16) to pay homage at the Jagannath Temple in Puri is as follows
Barkul (Chilka Lake) - Tangi - Rameswar crossing - turn right - Nirakarpur - Pratap Purusottampur - Puri.
The total distance = 106 kms and takes about 2 hrs 15 mins.
Barkul - Rameswar crossing = 66 kms.
Rameswar crossing - Nirakarpur = 4 kms.
Rameswar crossing - Puri = 50 kms.
