Hyundai Aura got crushed between 2 trucks in GJ in February 2023

A Hyundai Aura sedan with two occupants got crushed between 2 trucks in Gujarat.
The occupants in the car are no more.

For me it's a nightmare every time I need to stop behind a truck at any of the toll plazas across India 😩. I keep staring at the rear view mirror at frequent intervals till such time the boom bar swings upwards signalling me to move ahead.

IR GTG 2022-12-04 @ Mio Amore - Maneesh Vijaya

Indian Roadie Maneesh Vijaya from New Delhi had spoken to me on the phone quite a few times prior to December 2022. Both of us were waiting eagerly for the right opportunity to meet up.
Finally on 2022-12-03 morning, I was thrilled to receive a call from Maneesh wherein he told me that he was on his way to the airport to board a flight to Kolkata to attend a marriage on the same evening. It was decided that we will meet up the next morning before his departure for Delhi.
It was a memorable long awaited #IndianRoadieGTG on 2022-12-04 morning at Mio Amore, IA265, Salt Lake and Bancharam sweet shop before bidding adieu. The duration of the meeting was short. I wish we could have had more time in hand to discuss numerous other topics of mutual interest.
Dear Maneesh, we must meet for a longer duration during your next visit to Kolkata. Hopefully, the wait will be sooner than expected.

P.S: My sincere apologies for the long delay in posting the snippets from the lovely meeting.

Use cruise control only when fully awake and attentive on road

Cruise control is not auto pilot, do not use if you feel tired or sleepy. It's not ADAS with emergency braking or autopilot of any sort. Those who do long trips on single run are advised to use cruise control only when fully awake and attentive on road.

Use cruise control only to rest your feet, but not your brain because if you aren't fully awake or aware you might react to emergency braking situations too late and that can be catastrophic. Make sure your feet is resting in a way, to naturally approach brake instead of close to accelerator.

There are some beautiful wide and 4/6 lane highways that you can enjoy with cruise control. But that doesnt protect you from accidents. On the contrary, it makes you more susceptible to it. The less control you have over vehicle, the more attentive you should be.

Your biggest enemy when using cruise control is gaps in medians on highways while approaching city/ village limits. Wandering cattles especially the ones which are allowed to graze on vegetation in the median dividers are a potential risk with cruise control engaged.

Panicking/ overreacting and flooring the accelerator instead of brake or hard swerving or not reacting at all can be fatal.

To overcome fatigue park at a filling station or an eatery away from the highway, take a powernap for 20 - 30 minutes and again start driving thereafter.

An exciting bid to escape

An exciting bid to escape somewhere in Amritsar (supposedly) in early February 2023.
No further details are available.

Tiger spotted on NH in Assam in early February 2023

A tiger was spotted crossing a National Highway in Assam in early February 2023. It's a scary situation both for the animal as well as for highway users.

With the rapid pace of road infrastructure development happening across India since 2014, I am sure that a solution to this situation will surely be found in the near future.

In Pench (MH), a busy NH44 already has a long elevated road for vehicles thereby allowing animals to cross the stretch of NH without any obstacles. The project was taken up and completed within 3 years in end 2021. I am told that Samruddhi Expressway has atleast 3 (or more) animal overpasses between Nagpur and Shirdi.

More of similar animal overpasses are in the construction stage throughout India.

Kolkata - Bodh Gaya - Varanasi - Kolkata road trip by Arijit Mukherjee in December 2021

Trip to kashi....
Date Of Onwards Journey: 20/12/21
Date Of Return Journey: 24/12/21

Total Distance: 1400 kms (round trip)

Toll paid one way: ₹855.

Car: Jeep Compass AT

Route: Kolkata - Asansol - Dhanbad - Bodh Gaya - Sasaram - Varanasi

Started as early as 0500 hrs from Kolkata. Morning was pleasant, roads were clear, took Belghoria Expressway to AH1/ NH19.
Road conditions were good.

Treated ourselves with yummy litti at Dhanbad.

From Dhanbad to Bodhgaya roads were smooth with some diversions owing to road expansion.

At Bheria road condition was bad and we had to drive slow.

We reached Varanasi around 1930 hrs.

Overall ride was smooth and fun. Enjoyed my ride with Compass.

Dhabas were not very clean but tea served was excellent. Due to COVID we carried our  own lunch. On return passage we packed some sandwiches from the hotel.

During return passage we started from Varanasi around 1030 in the morning  after breakfast.

Didn't stop much on the way.

Reached Dhanbad around 1800 and took night halt at Sonotel Dhanbad.
Hotel not very good, parking was an issue.

On 24th started from Dhanbad around 1100 and crossed Palsit around 1430.

Reached home safely around 1700 hrs.

Thank you Deepda for all your suggestions. It was really helpful.
