Schoolteacher from New York made history with his 1966 Volvo P1800 by driving it more than 3.2 million miles

Irv Gordon, a schoolteacher from New York, made history with his 1966 Volvo P1800 by driving it more than 3.2 million miles — a Guinness World Record for the highest mileage ever recorded by a single-owner car. His love for driving and meticulous maintenance turned the coupe into a global icon of durability and reliability.

In a lighthearted moment, Gordon once offered to sell the car back to Volvo for $1 per mile, which would have been $3 million. The company declined, but they celebrated his achievements with recognition and even gifted him a new car after he crossed his first million miles. Following his passing in 2018, Volvo took ownership of the P1800 and continues to showcase it as a tribute to his unmatched journey on the road.
