Actual itinerary of a Delhi - Gujarat - Delhi road trip with family by Jayanta Roy, a corporate sales manager and also an Indian Roadie follower in December 2016.

Day 1 - Delhi - Udaipur.
Day 2 - Udaipur.
Day 3 - Udaipur - Ahmedabad.
Day 4&5 - Ahmedabad - Bhuj & Dhordo (Rann Utsav).
Day 7 - Rann of Kutch (other locations) - Bhuj.
Day 8 - Bhuj - Dwarka (a long one day drive).
Day 9 - Dwarka.
Day 10 - Okha.
Day 11 - Somnath Temple and over night stay in Gir Forest.
Day 12 - Gir.
Day 13 - Diu.
Day 14 - Diu - Ahmedabad.
Day 15 - Ahemedabad - Jaipur.
Day 16 - Jaipur - Delhi.

KSRTC will launch Ambaari Utsav branded Volvo 9600 buses on Bangalore to Puri and Bangalore to Ahmedabad routes

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is planning to launch its longest daily services from Bangalore to Puri (Odisha) (Bangalore_Puri), using Volvo 9600 air-conditioned sleeper buses by October 2024. Puri is approximately 1,500 kms from Bangalore. 

Currently, the longest KSRTC routes are Bangalore-Mumbai and Bangalore-Shirdi, each spanning about 1,000 kms.  The expansion plan comes in the wake of strong passenger demand for bus services from Bangalore to far-off places and competition from the private sector. 

Many private operators already run luxury bus services from Bengaluru to far-off destinations, including Ahmedabad, Indore, Bhopal, Jaipur, Jaitaran, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer.  At a little over 2,000 km, the Bengaluru-Jaisalmer bus service is India's longest.  

There is no direct bus service from Bengaluru to Puri, a pilgrimage town in coastal Odisha as in September 2024.  To launch these new interstate services, the KSRTC is in the process of seeking approvals from road transport corporations of the respective states along the routes. 

KSRTC will deploy two buses for the Bangalore to Puri and return route, with one making the onward journey and the other the return. There will be no toilet facility in the buses. The fare is expected to be around Rs 2,500 each way. The travel time will be 27 to 28 hours.  

Under the Ambaari Utsav brand, the KSRTC is procuring 20 numbers of Volvo 9600 multi-axle, AC sleeper buses. Each new bus will cost around Rs 1.8 crore. The Ambaari Utsav buses have new body and shape, and additional features compared to the Ambaari Dream Class. 

Two more Volvo 9600 buses under the Ambaari Utsav brand will ply on the Bangalore to Ahmedabad and return route. 

The remaining 16 new AC sleeper buses will serve routes to Mangalore, Kundapur, Murdeshwar, Hyderabad and Ernakulam. Coastal Karnataka routes (Mangaluru, Kundapur and Murdeshwar) alone require requiring 10 to 12 of these luxury buses.  

The KSRTC is also adding 20 AC seater buses to meet demand on the Tirupati, Ernakulam, Kundapur and Mangaluru routes because most of the current seater buses have outlived their utility and need to be replaced. The KSRTC currently has a fleet of 474 Volvo buses and will phase out 60 vehicles by March 2025.

Mumbai to Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Ahmedabad and back in Kia Seltos in December 2019 by Abhijeet Kale

Abhijeet Kale, a resident of Thane, Maharashtra is the proud owner of a beautiful blue KIA Seltos (HTX Diesel MT) which was delivered to him on 26th October 2019.

Abhijeet completed a round trip of Rajasthan with family from Mumbai (Thane).

It was a total of 2951 kms of drive in 7 days.

Day 1: Started from Thane on Wednesday, 25th December 2019 at 7am and reached Udaipur at 8pm. Total distance 760 kms.

Day 2: 26th December, visited Chittorgarh Fort and back to Udaipur for overnight stay. 250 kms drive. It took whole day for visit.
It's a great comfort if one can actually drive own car and visit all places. While returning had Daal Bati Churma at famous restaurant Sharma Bhojnalay.

Day 3: 27th December, visited City Palace in Udaipur and left for Jodhpur via Haldighati.
Since it was peak holiday season, there was a huge rush every where in Udaipur and therefore decided not to waste any more time in Udaipur since he had to reach his pre-booked desert camp in Jaisalmer on 28th.
Udaipur to Jaisalmer is approx 490 kms and the navigation system showed a  9 - 10 hrs drive. He decided to break journey and visit places enroute.
With proper planning, one can visit Haldighati, then Kumbhalgarh and halt at Jodhpur.
However, they had to give Kumbhalgarh Fort the miss as it was already past 4 pm at Haldighati.
He directly left for Jodhpur for overnight stay. Reached Jodhpur around 7.30 pm.

Day 4: On 28th December morning visited Mehrangarh Fort and started for camp site in Jaisalmer. Reached Jaisalmer by 4pm. Road was superb. He could use the cruise control without any worry.
Warning: Beware of police with speed guns 40 - 50 kms prior to Jaisalmer. Our friend got fined for overspeeding at 90 kmph while the permissible speed limit was 80 kmph. He had paid ₹400 with valid receipt and moved ahead.
The family had an amazing stay in Vinayak Desert camp in Jaisalmer. Evening sunset is a must  see in the desert. He suggests going for a jeep ride, and also a camel ride. The evening cultural program at camp was enjoyable. The temperature was 6 degrees Centigrade that night.

Day 5: On 29th December they left the camp by 10am for Tanot Mata Mandir and Longewala border.
One has to take prior permission from BSF office in Jaisalmer for visiting the border post.
He recalls the amazing experience of visiting the border and speaking with our jawans there.
After the border visit he started towards Longewala Museum.

After visiting all the  Must See/ Must Visit locations, it was past 6pm. They left for Jaisalmer city for night stay.

Day 6: On 30 December morning, they checked out from hotel, visited Jaisalmer Fort. Personally he didn't like the fort at all as there was nothing much to see. The entire fort looked like any local market.  Started back for Ahmedabad for night stay. Reached ahemdabad around 10.30 pm.

Day 7: On 30th December at 8.30 am started for home in Thane. Reached home by 6 pm.

During the total of 2951 kms of drive single handedly, he faced 2 issues during the trip:
1. Low Tyre pressure
2. Engine check light started glowing during the return journey, about 120 km prior to reaching Mumbai.

Delhi to Mumbai to Delhi - road trip in Dec 2018/ Jan 2019

Delhi-Agra-Jaipir-Beawar-Sirohi-Palanpur-Ahmedabad-Vadodra-Surat-Mumbai.

Total Kms driven: 1719 kms.
Car: Maruti S-Cross.

Route Update:

Day 1: Delhi-Agra: Took YEW to NH-19, towards tansport nagar. Speed limit on the YEW has been revised to 75 kmph for couple of months due to the fog. On Nh-19 crossing Yamuna is still a pain as one flyover is yet to complete construction. Total travel time - 3 hours.

Day 2: Agra-Jaipur: Took NH-21, the road is just superb. 4 lane throughout. So much better than Delhi-Jaipur. Encountered very thick fog, started at 5:45am, reached Jaipur at 10:30am. Crossed Jaipur and had breakfast at Hotel Highway King on Ajmer-Jaipur Higahway.

Day 3: Jaipur-Beawar-Sirohi-Palanpur-Ahmedabad: Tried the Palanpur route for the first time. Our planned halt was at Udaipur. Drove from Agra to Ahmedabad with 2 breaks. The other break was at Midway Namaste before Sirohi. The roads are excellent till you enter Gujarat. The roads ahead are good but too much local traffic. Too many trucks on this route. We made good progress till Palanpur, post that, it was a pain till Ahmedabad. Will not take this route unless i have to visit Ahmedabad. Total time taken - 16 hours for 930 kms.

Day 4: Ahmedabad-Vadodra-Surat-Mumbai: Took NE-1 to Vadodra. Gujurat drivers are the worst drivers I came across in this drive. The shoulder lane is the overtaking lane for them!! So many cars overtaking from shoulder lane. The drive was very smooth till Vasai bridge. Stopped at Food hub in Manor for lunch. From Vadai bridge to Dahisar took 1 hour 30 mins! Pathetic traffic. Time taken 8 hours.

Avg money spent on toll: 1-1.25/- per km. 

Return drive from Mumbai to Delhi starting on Saturday, 2019-01-05 via Godhra - Shamlaji -Udaipur.
