Shifting a car or bike legally to Bangalore from rest of India

An anonymous roadie shifted from Pune to Bangalore (for more than a year) with his car and a two wheeler. There were many issues which had to be handled as per RTO rules. The procedure of minimum required documentation for transfer of his vehicles for hassle free drive/ ride in Bangalore were quite cumbersome.

Read his suggestions:

- Keep vehicle transporter's documents and way bill intact.

- If your are driving,  keep toll charges and petrol bill.

- In the first 30 days of your move to new jurisdiction, let the local RTO know the new address where vehicle shall be with old registration.

- Write a letter and send using registered post with acknowledgement for the purpose of records.

- Or walk into the appropriate RTO office to let them know about your vehicle. Ask for appropriate forms, fill them up, keep copies and get acknowledgement of submission.

- Until first 330 days of move, the acknowledgement will be alid. If you stopped by the police, show them registered post acknowledgement or the acknowledgement of submission of relevant forms to RTO.

- Before the end of 330 days if you still continue to stay in Bangalore, apply for paying taxes.

- If you want to change registration then apply for that, too before paying the road tax.

- Fill in the NOC request from old RTO and submit to the new RTO.

- Rest will to be taken care by the new RTO.

- Make sure you always collect acknowledgements for every submission.

- Ideally communicate via registered post for record purpose.

- Do not take shortcuts. That might land you into a lot of problems.

- Talk to responsible officials in the new RTOand ask them about procedure for applying for NOC from old RTO.

- NOC is issued by old RTO after police investigation.  If there are pending fines, that has to be paid off. If everything is ok, the NOC is issued.

- The NOC is an important legal document between departments.
