Animal Underpasses have been built in NH44, Pench Tiger Reserve

Wildlife Institute has issued report of 9 animal underpasses constructed with investment of ₹225 crores.
Animal Underpasses have been built in NH44, Pench Tiger Reserve.

The longest national highway in India, NH44 (erstwhile, NH7) passes through Pench Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra. It has reported a lot of deaths of wild animals. But now new paths have been developed to help them avoid vehicle encounters.

More than 5450 wild animals have been spotted using 6 underpasses which included 11 tigers, according to a Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun report. This highway underpass is the first animal crossing structure in India which was built around December 2019.  Some of the first species spotted using the structures are spotted deer, tigers, wild boars, jungle cat and hare.

Bilal Habib, a tiger scientist who recommended mitigation measures, has added, “These structures are playing a vital role to improve the permeability of landscapes. These measures would definitely defragment the congested landscapes.”

How it all started?
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) issued a contract of ₹1170 crores to build a 117 kms long 4-lane highway from Seoni to Nagpur. Considering the court case and protest of animal activists threatening to stop the project, the NHAI added extra cost in the contract in 2015 to build the bridges and underpasses. Overall cost of the project was raised by ₹240 crores. NHAI also built the guide walls to protect the animals as well as up to 750 mtrs wide 9 underpasses at several places.

There are several other underpasses in the pipeline in India. There are two minor bridges and two elephant passes in progress in Lumding, Assam on NH54. In addition, 3 elephant underpasses will also be built with vertical clearance of 6 meters in NH72 and NH58 from Haridwar to Dehradun.

Total of 18 species have been found using underpasses - WWI Report:
According to the camera trap survey conducted from March to December 2019, the report states that a total of 18 species of wild animals were found using such underpasses, excluding grey langur and rhesus macaque. Along with tigers and leopards, the wild boars, spotted tigers and wild dogs were also the animals spotted using these underpasses most frequently. Other animals which were using these underpasses were mongoose, wild cat, small Indian civet, common palm civet, rusty spotted cat, Indian hare and porcupine.

A total of 89 crossings have been recorded by tigers under the structures till December 31, 2019. There were 11 tigers that used the underpass regularly. This 16.1 km long stretch intersects Pench - Navegaon - Nagzira tiger corridor and passes through forests of Pench Tiger Reserve. In addition, 9 wildlife mitigation structures were built as discussed in the joint report by WII-NTCA in May 2015.

The initial results with monitoring on NH44 are really promising. The survey spotted 5381 animals of 18 species passing through these underpasses like wild boars, dholes, tigers, and wild cats.

Overall, this is a great concept to save both wildlife and human lives. It can help easy and safe passage of both people and wildlife without any encounters. This wildlife passage has been built as a great step towards wildlife conservation.
Many more national parks in India like Bandhavgarh, Kanha, Ranthambhor, etc  need similar initiatives.

Pune to Lucknow - Indian Roadie Preferred Route

Indian Roadie Preferred Route for

Pune to Lucknow
(Pune_Lucknow):

Option 1:
Pune - Nashik - Just short of Indore on Mumbai Agra highway turn right towards Bhopal, 4 lane good road - Bhopal - Sagar - Jhansi - Kanpur - Lucknow.
After Bhopal if you follow Google Maps it will take you on a tour of villages in MP! Drive only via Sagar, without digressing from the highway.

Option 2 (not recommended):
Pune - Ahmednagar - Shirdi - Manmad
Guna - Indore route is good. After Indore u can take agra-mumbai nh road which passes via indore and will go via dhule - malegaon -nasik and then u can take nasik pune highway its the best route and if u want bit shorter route to pune then u have to exit agra-mumbai highway near malegaon and enter state highway which will go via manmad-shirdi-ahmednagar to pune but this route have potholes and very bad road stretch between shirdi-ahmednagar so if you want best quality roads then go via nasik to pune

Why display such stupidity by making a Thar 2O20 jump

It is so disappointing to see such videos aired by grown up, knowledgeable people, behaving like juveniles.
What was the purpose of making a vehicle jump like this, when it neither demonstrates ones driving skills, nor the vehicle's true capability.
It's blatant abuse of a vehicle, with people putting their own safety at risk.
If this video was clicked for advertising the product, then it is setting a poor example.
It will act as fodder to the immature, the irresponsible and the foolish.
Moreover, if this indeed is an advertisement, will Mahindra respect the warranty if one decides to drive so irresponsibly in real life!

Eliminate extreme fogging of windshields of cars

How to eliminate extreme fogging of windshields of cars during 'summers':
During summer months, when the hot air from outside meets the cooled surface of the glass windows and windshield of the car, it immediately condenses and creates a layer of fog which forms on the outside of the windshield.
Keep the car AC temperature at 4 - 5°C below the outside temperature which the car display shows. This ensures that the interior temperature does not become too cold vis-a-vis the outside temperature.
If the temperature outside is 33°C, run the car AC at 28 or 29°C. Roadies will not face the issue of extreme fogging of the windshield leading to poor or even zero visibility.
Rear windshield heater (defogger) takes care of the rear windshield.
If you run the AC at 22 or 23°C while the outside temperature is 33 - 35°C, the windshield will become too cold and all the humidity will condense on the outer surface of the glass leading to almost zero visibility.
If the atmospheric humidity is too high, as in Kolkata or Mumbai, then condensation on windshield is higher, too.
Indian Roadie members and followers can also open a side window a bit to allow the outside air into the car. This will not only balance the temperatures quicker, but it will also allow them to keep themselves cool and enjoy the drive.
Fogging in summer is on the outside. One can easily get rid of it by simply turning on the car windshield wipers. During condensation, water forms on the surface of the windshield and wipers are designed to get rid of water.
Moreover, running the AC with recirculation OFF at times will allow the outside air to enter the cabin and balance the temperature.

How to eliminate extreme fogging of windshields of cars during 'winters':
Condensation during winter months occur inside the car. Cold air of the atmosphere meets the warm air of the car interior and causes the windshield to fog up from the inside. Winter fogging is  somewhat difficult to remove.
There's a “Fresh Air Mode” button located on the dashboard console. The button has a car with an arrow that points into the car. Once turned on, this feature pulls in fresh air from outside but does not drastically lower the temperature inside the car. The temperature is gradually balanced and the fog on the windshield will disappear.
Ensure that the “Recirculation Mode” is turned off. It is the button with a car and a circular arrow inside it. This function recirculates the air inside the vehicle by closing the air ducts in front.
During winters, it may not be practical to switch on the car AC and reduce the temperature to almost match the temperature outside. The fan can be switched on to somewhat lower the temperature insinside.

Safe volume of fuel should always be much lesser than the volume of the fuel tank

The quantity of fuel (petrol or diesel) that you can fill in the fuel tank  of your car can in reality always be more than what is mentioned in the owner's manual of the car.
The owner's manual mentions the safe volume of fuel that should ideally be filled in an absolutely empty tank.

Oil spilled from an overturned tanker on Pune Mumbai Expressway on 2020-09-07

A multi-axle oil-laden tanker toppled on the downward slope near Khopoli exit in the Bhor ghat while heading towards Mumbai along the Mumbai-Pune expressway on Monday, 2020-09-07 around 12 noon.

Mumbai bound traffic had to be diverted via Old Mumbai - Pune Highway.

Now imagine yourself to be driving at 137 kmph (not, 187 kmph) in a bright sunny and nearly empty highway and engrossed in clicking a video of your stupid heroic feat.

Or imagine yourself to be fully engrossed in the 1200W of music blurting out of your ₹40000 worth of music system.

God help you even if there's a 20 - 30 sq inch patch of oil which had accidentally spilled on the highway from some other vehicle.
