At least seven people were killed and 40 others were injured after a car whose driver possibly fell asleep, veered out of control, crossed the median, and crashed into a night bus on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway at around 12.30 am on Sunday 2024-08-04. After the collision, both vehicles plunged approximately 20 feet down into a ravine near Usrahar in Etawah, UP.
The seven killed were three occupants of the car and four passengers of the bus. Since the vehicles fell into the gorge, the rescue team comprising of police personnel formed a human chain to rescue the injured and shifted them to hospitals.
The bus with a Nagaland registration, was carrying 60 passengers and was on its way to Delhi from Raebareli. The family including a woman in the car with a Kanauj registration was returning to Talgram in Kannauj after paying a visit to Mehndipur Balaji in Rajasthan.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Etawah, Sanjay Verma confirmed that the accident took place after the car crossed into the opposite lane, leading to the collision. Meanwhile, administrative officials are overseeing the medical treatment and support for the injured, said the SSP.
