Surat - Chennai Expressway (under construction) - Indian Roadie Infrastructure Projects

Glimpse of SURAT to CHENNAI (Surat_Chennai) Expressway, under construction as in May 2024).

This expressway will run in drought prone backward areas of South India (including north Karnataka and Rayalseema region of Andhra Pradesh) connecting those to major commercial hubs between Surat and Chennai port. The 1271 kms long expressway will reduce time of travel from current 35 hrs to just about 18 hrs.

These are the kind of infrastructure projects which will start easing population growth around a handful of towns and cities only. People will stop flocking to big towns and cities as amenities start improving on both sides of the eways. The benefits will start accruing and reach maximum momentum after 15 - 20 years. Returns will not be immediate.

Ranaghat flyover on NH12 became operational in March 2024 - Indian Roadie Infrastructure Projects

Ranaghat flyover on NH12 (erstwhile, NH34) is officially open for vehicular traffic movement wef mid March 2024.
Even as on 2024-04-13, both way traffic are being directed through single flanks of the flyover. Vehicular traffic are expected to move seamlessly on both lanes within end April 2024.

The videos were filmed on 2024-04-13 and sent to me for the benefit of Indian Roadie members/ followers by my brothers-in-law who are the owners of Manorama Hospitex, a 400+ bed super speciality hospital (and also an Indian Roadie Preferred Hospital) in Ranaghat, Nadia district, West Bengal.

For the uninitiated who can't drive without the dumb online navigation maps, the hospital is on the left flank of NH12 as one drives down from Kolkata/ Barasat/ Chakdaha towards Krishnanagar/ Baharampore/ Farakka/ Malda.
Roadies will no more be held up in inordinately long jams at the railway level crossing in Ranaghat which is just about 150 mtrs on the right (from where the video was clicked) towards Kolkata.

BRO has connected the Nimmu-Padam-Darcha road in Ladakh on 2024-03-25

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) connected the strategic Nimmu-Padam-Darcha road in Ladakh on Monday 2024-03-25. This 298-km road will connect Manali to Leh through Darcha and Nimmu on Kargil – Leh Highway.

The road is now the third axis apart from Manali-Leh and Srinagar-Leh, which connects Ladakh to the hinterland.

The Nimmu-Padam-Darcha road derives its strategic importance from the fact that it is not only shorter vis-a-vis the other two axes, but crosses only one pass; Shinkun La (16,558 feet) on which tunnel work is about to commence by the BRO.

Sudarshan Setu connecting Okha mainland and Beyt Dwarka to be dedicated to the nation by PM on 2024-02-25

India's karmyogi PM Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation, Sudarshan Setu connecting Okha mainland and Beyt Dwarka island on Sunday, 2024-02-25. The bridge has been built at a cost of around Rs. 980 crores. It is 2.32 kms long and is the longest cable-stayed bridge in the country.

Sudarshan Setu boasts a unique design, featuring a footpath adorned with verses from Shrimad Bhagavad Gita and images of Bhagwan Krishna on both sides. It also has solar panels installed on the upper portions of the footpath, generating one megawatt of electricity.

This bridge will ease the transportation and significantly reduce the time devotees had to spend for travelling between Dwarka and Beyt-Dwarka. Prior to the construction, pilgrims had to rely on boat transport to reach Beyt Dwarka.

This iconic bridge will also serve as a major tourist attraction of Devbhumi Dwarka.

Vijayawada 6 lane West Bypass is ready in February 2024

Vijayawada 6 lane West Bypass is ready in February 2024.

Vijayawada has got its first bypass after decades. Vijayawada is possibly the only city in India with four NHs going through the middle of the city without a single bypass. The citizens have been struggling to manage heavy vehicular traffic moving through the city for decades as successive governments failed to put the plans on track.

Finally, the six-lane Vijayawada bypass from China Autupalli to Gollapudi on NH16 is nearing completion. Interestingly, this is not a mere bypass but also acts as an outer ring road from the west side of the city making it two bypasses to connect both NH16 (Chennai to Kolkata) and NH65 (Vijayawada to Hyderabad)

This has coming up with a river overbridge near Gollapadi which ends near China Kakani on the outskirts of Mangalagiri town in Guntur district. Centre had cleared the project under Bharat Mala Pariyojana.

The bypass (Vijayawada West outer ring road) has been split into two packages. While the Gollapudi-China Autupalli section was bagged by Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (Meil), the package from Gollapudi to China Kakani with a river overbridge had been granted to a consortium of Adani Enterprises Ltd and Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd.

The six-lane NH will ease traffic congestion for vehicles traveling to Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad as they would be able to bypass Vijayawada City.

Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has also got the East Bypass cleared by the Centre, works on which will commence shortly.

The journey time from Vizag to Bangalore, Vizag to Chennai, Vizag to Hyderabad will reduce.

Atal Setu: All you need to know about India's longest sea bridge which was inaugurated on 2024-01-12

Atal Setu: All you need to know about India's longest sea bridge

The bridge has shortened the distance between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to just 20 minutes which earlier took 2 hours.

The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) or Atal Setu, longest sea bridge in India by prime minister Narendra Modi on Friday 2024-01-13. The bridge has been named after former prime minister and late BJP veteran Atal Bihari Vajpayee. 21.8 km in length and having six lanes, the bridge has been constructed at a whopping cost of ₹18,000 crore.
The bridge originates from Sewri in Mumbai and ends at Nhava Sheva in Uran taluka in Raigad district. It is expected to boost economic development in Navi Mumbai and other nearby areas. It has shortened the distance between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to just 20 minutes which earlier took 2 hours. Authorities claim it will also resolve the problem of traffic jams in the region.
The maximum speed limit for four-wheelers on the bridge has been fixed at 100 kmph by the Mumbai Police. Motorbikes, autorickshaws and tractors won’t be allowed to run on it.

Here are some other amazing details about the Atal Setu
A marvel of engineering, steel equivalent to the weight of 500 Boeing aeroplanes and 17 times that of the Eiffel Tower's weight was used for its construction.
177,903 metric tonnes of steel and 504,253 metric tonnes of cement were used in its construction.
The bridge also reduces the distance between Mumbai and Pune Expressway. It will also provide connection to areas like the under-construction Navi Mumbai International Airport.
70,000 vehicles are expected to use the bridge everyday.
The construction of the bridge began in 2018. It is the 12th longest sea bridge in the world.
