Lady journalist shot at in Delhi after throwing eggs on windscreen of her i20 car

A journalist was shot at by a group of masked men while she was in her car at east Delhi's Vasundhara Enclave.  Mitali Chandola, who lives in Noida, was driving her Hyundai i20 car around 12:30 am on Sunday, 2019-06-23 when a Maruti Swift suddenly overtook her.

Some masked men inside the car fired two shots at her. The bullets pierced through the front windshield and one of them hit her hand. Ms Chandola told the police the attackers also threw eggs on her car's windshield before accelerating away.

She has been admitted to Dharamshila Hospital in east Delhi and is out of danger.

The  police are investigating whether any gang that targets motorists at night with eggs to distract and rob them were involved in the attack.

The police have also not ruled out personal enmity. Ms Chandola said she was not in good terms with her family.

She has received bullet injuries in her arm. She is out of danger. Prima facie it appears to be case of family dispute.

The police have launched a hunt for the accused.

In 2008, a 26-year-old journalist, Soumya Viswanathan, was shot dead in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj while she was driving around 3:30 am.

Ushoshi Sengupta and UBER cab driver harasses by bike borne helmetless Muslim goons on 2019-06-17

The short video that Ms. Ushoshi Sengupta, Miss India 2010 managed to record while the helmetless 'muslim' goons on bikes attacked Tarak, her UBER cab driver on Monday, 2019-06-17 around 11.40pm, near Exide crossing in Kolkata.

Ushoshi was also cursed, harassed and tugged.

She ran to the cops stationed at the Maidan Police Station barely 50 mtrs away. The cops refused to help her because the place where the incident was happening was on the other side of the road and was under the jurisdiction of Bhowanipore Police Station. It was only when she broke down and kept pleading for help that the cops reluctantly relented. They caught two of those rogues but were outnumbered

When she was nearing her residence well past midnight about 8 kms away in Lake Gardens, a peaceful residential locality of south Kolkata, six of the helmetless goons in two bikes tracked and blocked the UBER cab once again. They thrashed the driver, smashed the windscreen and hurled a couple of bricks at the car.

Hearing the commotion local residents approached her and then only the goons fled.

Feeling sleepy? Stop and rest before it's too late

If you feel sleepy while driving/ riding, move a safe distance away from the carriageway and take a power nap for 20 - 30 mins.
Your eyes might shut without an inkling.
Whatever other solutions one might suggest, nothing works better than a power nap.
Ignore at your own risk. Don't repent later. You may not have a second chance.

Shifting a car or bike legally to Bangalore from rest of India

An anonymous roadie shifted from Pune to Bangalore (for more than a year) with his car and a two wheeler. There were many issues which had to be handled as per RTO rules. The procedure of minimum required documentation for transfer of his vehicles for hassle free drive/ ride in Bangalore were quite cumbersome.

Read his suggestions:

- Keep vehicle transporter's documents and way bill intact.

- If your are driving,  keep toll charges and petrol bill.

- In the first 30 days of your move to new jurisdiction, let the local RTO know the new address where vehicle shall be with old registration.

- Write a letter and send using registered post with acknowledgement for the purpose of records.

- Or walk into the appropriate RTO office to let them know about your vehicle. Ask for appropriate forms, fill them up, keep copies and get acknowledgement of submission.

- Until first 330 days of move, the acknowledgement will be alid. If you stopped by the police, show them registered post acknowledgement or the acknowledgement of submission of relevant forms to RTO.

- Before the end of 330 days if you still continue to stay in Bangalore, apply for paying taxes.

- If you want to change registration then apply for that, too before paying the road tax.

- Fill in the NOC request from old RTO and submit to the new RTO.

- Rest will to be taken care by the new RTO.

- Make sure you always collect acknowledgements for every submission.

- Ideally communicate via registered post for record purpose.

- Do not take shortcuts. That might land you into a lot of problems.

- Talk to responsible officials in the new RTOand ask them about procedure for applying for NOC from old RTO.

- NOC is issued by old RTO after police investigation.  If there are pending fines, that has to be paid off. If everything is ok, the NOC is issued.

- The NOC is an important legal document between departments.

Bridge over Hatania Doania Khaal (River) opened to passenger cars on 2019-03-07

Tourists from Kolkata visiting Bakkhali, Frazergunj, Henry’s Island and Jambudwip Island have a lot to cheer as the West Bengal state government on Thursday, 2019-03-07 inaugurated a bridge over the Hataniya-Doania river, connecting Namkhana. Though some work is still left, the 3.3-km bridge looks to reduce travel time from the city to Bakkhali by at least two-and-a-half hours by cutting down on the waiting time for barges across the river.
barge

The Rs 226-crore project took four years to complete.
To address travellers’ woes, the state took up the construction of the bridge, which will reduce travel time to three hours by car and four hours by bus from the earlier five and six hours respectively. Inaugurating the bridge, state minister Aroop Biswas said, “The bridge will ensure travel from Kolkata to Bakkhali is a smooth ride. It will also boost tourism to Bakkhali, Frazergunj, Henry’s Island and Jambudwip.”

The remaining work includes completion of the pedestrian pathway on the right side of the bridge, when viewed from the Namkhana-end. Also, the approach road from the Bakkhali-end is yet to be completed. But now that the bridge has been opened, the authorities have decided to allow only light vehicles and bikes to ply the structure till the approach road is built. These vehicles will have to take an uneven stretch on one flank of the underconstruction approach road for now, while the other flank is built. The bridge also needs a coat of paint.
So far, city tourists to Bakkhali, Frazergunj, Henry Island and Jambudwip as well as daily commuters had to take NH-117 and drive five hours by cars or travel by bus for over six hours to reach Bakkhali. The other option was to reach Namkhana by road or train and board barges to cross the Hataniya-Dowania and get off at Bakkhali on the opposite bank. There were complaints aplenty over the tardy barge services operated by the State Surface Transport Corporation. Tourists and commuters had to put up with irregular services with operators often telling passengers that the river was not navigable during low tide. Some even cited lack of regular dredging of the river as a factor hindering navigation.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee had announced the formation of a Bakkhali-Sagar Development Authority, which will be responsible for the development and beautification of Bakkhali and Sagar Island to attract more tourists.

Mumbai to Leh - Indian Roadie Preferred Route

For roadies driving #Mumbai_Leh between May and October 2019,  go only via Kishangarh - Jaipur - Rohtak - Panipat - Ambala - Ludhiana - Jalandhar - Pathankot.
Fully 4-laned, super fast, excellent facilities.
Average driver can do,
Day 1: Mumbai - Chittorgarh, Day 2: Chittorgarh - Karnal, Day 3: Karnal - Jammu.
For very fast drivers, D2 in Jammu.
Avoid Kishangarh - Hanumangarh route, it is 2-laned, has no bypasses, is slower, has poorer facilities.
Go ONLY via Nashik. GJ route via Surat, Vadodara has too much traffic. Road approaching Udaipur is in a total mess due to road widening, and it is much more faster via the Nashik route. Every one does Thane - Chittorgarh easily in a day.
