Sherrin Varghese of Mumbai helped critically injured accident victims on Pune - Mumbai Expressway by reaching them to a hospital on 2019-07-08 morning

Sherrin Varghese, a singer, actor and live performer from Mumbai was on the Mumbai - Pune Expressway in heavy rains on Monday, 2019-07-08 morning. He detailed what he bumped upon and his subsequent action on his Facebook wall at 10.39am on the same morning.

The same is reproduced verbatim on #IndianRoadie, #CarrotNStick, #HowIndiaTravels.

You see that?! That is the bloodstain of an unfortunate accident victim who I helped on the Mumbai Pune Expressway today morning just after the ghats. It was raining heavily and everyone was cruising at 100 kmph which suddenly turned into a bottleneck for 10 minutes. Google maps showed a short stretch of red immediately ahead of me & I figured something was wrong!

On reaching the accident site I was appalled to see a car blown to pieces with a man still in the car holding on dearly to his unconscious sister’s forehead which was cut very badly and a lot of people just milling around. I shouted asking if anybody needs help and they said yes. Got them to MGM Hospital, Kalamboli, which was a gruelling 30 kms away from there.

It was mindnumbing to hear the brother wince in pain at every bump that he was feeling magnified because of the hurt and I could feel him cursing his luck at not being able to brake in time because of his slippers which caused him to run into a truck. Kept talking to him so he doesn’t pass out and he kept his finger inside your sisters mouth so that she doesn’t choke on the gurgling blood that was coming out of her mouth.

Dr Gandhi from Mahatma Gandhi Hospital Kalamboli said she’s in a very bad state and he should be okay.

The reason for me to put up this post was cause I can’t believe that in the 10 minutes that we stalled about 50 to 60 cars must have passed the accident site without anyone offering help. Are we really that jaded a lot that we don’t stop for people who’ve gotten hurt?!

I mean why is it that human life has no value in our country? Cops at the toll naka were more concerned & satisfied that they had managed to catch hold of the truck driver who had fled the situation fearing mob justice perhaps, rather than escorting us to the nearest hospital, given the victims conditions, heavy rains & us having no whereabouts of this place except what’s showing on google maps with sketchy internet.

Even the doctor told me “Don’t worry sir, nothing is going to happen to you!”.
Really?!?... This is 2019 and we still have to worry about helping accident victims!!!
I couldn’t have been the only person travelling alone amongst those 40-50 cars before me!

Amit Mhatre, I think your drum mat just may have saved her life as her bruised head was being contained in it by this guy.

When did we stop being human!???

Please always help accident victims!
