Our road trip to Bhitarkanika, Odisha started at 2.30 am on the 26th December 2024.
We drove straight till Bhadrak and then turned left to drive via Chandbali, Pattamundai, Rajnagar, Khola to reach Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary.
Our abode for two days was Estuarine Village Resort which by sheer luck we managed a cottage. The details of the resort is given in the photograph. The resort is located on the banks of River Baitarini. Do not expect a lavish resort but with its rustic finishes it was really nice. Food needs a lot of improvement though.
Day one was just walking around the village.
.
Day Two we had booked an exclusive boat and it was indeed a memorable ride through the 2nd largest mangrove forest of India. Famous for crocodiles, lizard Monitors and various species of birds which we saw in abundance. In One of my frame you would see a crocodile and a deer which was really rare to be seen. We were lucky to spot the majestic Kalia.. a 24 ft crocodile. The 3 hour boat ride was quite memorable. Evening was booked for another exclusive amazing boat ride to the confluence of Baitarini and Brahmini to witness the sunset.. it was indeed an evening to remember…
Good things has to come to an end.. so did our two day escapade from the busy city life. But the memoriea etched in our mind will last forever.
We left Bhitarkanika at 10 am, stopped for lunch at Ma Handishala on the highway just after leaving Balasore. This is a must stop if you are a non-veg to enjoy Baripada Mutton Thali.
The next stop was kolkata, 28th December 2024. Going time we took exactly 8 hours and on our return we took 9 hours. Roads are really nice and specially driving in the night was just awesome. Total Toll 370 one way.
We look forward to more such long road trips and would be happy to join in group trips.
