Nehru ORR (Outer Ring Road) - 19 Exits

The 158 km long, 8-lane, tolled Outer Ring Road (ORR), also known as the Jawaharlal Nehru Outer Ring Road in Hyderabad, rings the city. It was constructed to improve connectivity to the neighborhood and lessen city traffic congestion. NH44, NH65, NH163, and NH765 are just a few of the important highways that the ORR connects. It also travels through the districts of Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri. 

In Hyderabad, various villages in the districts of Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri are traversed by the Outer Ring Road (ORR). According to official sources, 39 localities are traversed by the ORR.

Bhopal to Bangalore - Indian Roadie Preferred Route and a drive on 5th and 6th May 2020 during Covid-19 lockdown

Bhopal to Bangalore, Indian Roadie Preferred Route and a detailed trip update.

Date of journey: 05-06 May 20

Start: Bhopal, 0900Hrs on 2020-05-05.
End: Bengaluru, 0730 Hrs next day, i.e. on 2020-05-06.

Pass applied through MP Govt website as I work in Bengaluru and had to return, got approval in 2 days.

Route: Bhopal - Hoshangabad - Betul - Nagpur - Hyderabad - Bengaluru

Road, traffic and checkpost update:

Bhopal to Hoshangabad - multiple unmarked and uneven diversions, ended up bending 2 rims. Exercise caution specially if driving in night. Major traffic pile up near Mandidip at Corona check post as all vehicles are being checked for passes, only pass to be verified, no entry/screening for people exiting Bhopal. Further checkposts before and after Narmada river bridge, need to get out of vehicle, verify pass and register entry. Marginal traffic majorly truck but some local vehicles also near industrial areas.

Hoshangabad to Betul - poorly marked diversions but road surface is decent, beware of old culverts which have sudden dips, can bottom out suspension easily. Checkpost while crossing all towns, need to get out of vehicle, verify pass & register entry. Mostly empty roads with few trucks.

Betul to Nagpur - beautiful concrete roads, sparse traffic, only long haul truck traffic. No checkpost except MP-MH border where only pass & luggage check was done. No screening. Crossed Nagpur around 12-01pm,  no checks while crossing city, minimal traffic, may be due to extreme heat. Most flyovers are closed.

Nagpur – Hyderabad – Flyovers construction ongoing near Butibori & patchy road surface almost till Hinganghat, good roads after that. Long haul truck & small loading vehicle traffic carrying migrants in all possible dangerous  ways. Also lot of ppl walking on side of roads, drive carefully as they are crossing roads at multiple points. Checkposts at multiple points in MH, pass verification & register entry to be done. At MH-TS border, proper thermal screening being done, also TS govt is issuing a certificate for the same which should be carried & useful while exiting TS.

Hyderabad – Bengaluru – Good road surface, very minimal traffic being night. Checkpost just before Medchal which is the only checkpost we were stopped to enter Hyderabad. Nehru ORR is closed for cars, need to pass through city. We crossed around 11pm-12am which helped in crossing without any local traffic, some flyovers closed where Inner ORR is open. Multiple checkpost present but not stopped anywhere. Next checkpost at TS-AP border before Kurnool, pass & TS certificate verification & register entry. No checkpost after that till AP-KA border at Bagepalli. Only pass checked near Bagepalli toll. Next checking at Devanahalli, only pass to be shown. No checks after that till inside city.

Very very few dhabas are open & are crowded with truck drivers, best avoided. Fuel pumps are open on highways but closed in night in all major towns including Hyderabad. Few puncture shops are open but only on Highways & not inside city. No other mechanic/repair shops open.

Bypass roads are open but all town entries are closed, anyone in transit should not try to enter as its not allowed.

Surprisingly almost all tea shops were open near Penukonda & was crowded also.

I am currently in self quarantine however was very disappointed with KA govt lapse of not screening ppl who are entering from other states/cities in Bengaluru. This may lead to a big problem in coming days.

Pls be cooperative & humble with police/medical staff who are stopping you to check. We are sitting in our AC cars whereas they are sitting outside in scorching heat with minimal facilities.

Car flips over Biodiversity Flyover in Gachibowli, Hyderabad on 2019-11-23

A horrifying accident took place on Hyderabad's newly-opened Biodiversity Flyover in Gachibowli on Saturday, 2019-11-23 after a man lost control on his VW Polo GTI car and fell off the bridge. CCTVs captured the sequence of events on the flyover and below it. The driver of the car is safe. However, a lady pedestrian standing with her daughter was killed and six others were injured.

The flyover has been temporarily closed down after the accident.

Skip to 35 seconds to watch the car speeding on the flyover and flipping over after the sharp curve.

This is the second major accident to take place on the flyover since it was inaugurated on November 4, 2019 by Municipal Minister KT Rama Rao.

Earlier, two were killed while four suffered injuries when 28-year-old techie, P Abhilash, was driving his car at a high speed.

When cops subjected him with a breathalyser test, Abhilash's blood alcohol content was 223 mg/100ml, which is seven times higher than the permissible limit.

It was December 2018.
A roadie, his 8 year old kid and a close friend drove about 2400 kms in 3 days in his Renault Duster.

Day1: Bengaluru - Vizag.

Route: Bangalore - Kolar - Tirupati - Nellore - Vijayawada - Vizag.

Road status: Bangalore - Palamaner was excellent, Palamaner - Tirupati was under construction, Tirupati - Naidupeta was ok, Naidupeta - Vizag was good road with some bumpy patches but with heavy truck traffic.

Day2: Vizag - Chilkur.

Route: Vizag - Vijayawada - Hyderabad - Chilkur.

Road status: Vizag - Vijayawada heavy traffic, Vijayawada - Hyderabad smooth road with minimal traffic.

Day3: Chilkur - Kurnool - Bangalore.

Route: Chilkur - Bangalore.

Roads: Smooth road with minimal traffic.

Chennai - Srisailam - Hyderabad - Chennai road trip

Madhumita Santra completed her third road trip by car (second inter-state drive) in October 2018.
Covered 1461 km of road in 6 days. Longest distance covered in a day was 668 km in 13hrs with breaks.

Day 1: Chennai - Srisailam;

Day 2: Srisailam Temple and Site Trip; Srisailam - Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad;

Bike trip to Bogatha waterfalls (near Etturnagaram), Laknavaram Lake from Hyderabad in October 2015

Travelogue of a single day ride by two friends (Raghu Jayaraman and Naveen Kalluri) in a single bike from Hyderabad to Bogatha waterfalls (near Etturnagaram) & Laknavaram Lake and back in October 2015.

1. Total distance clocked around 550 kms+.
2. Route: Hyd-Warangal-Mulugu-Etturnagaram.
3. Started at 5am from Uppal, Hyderabad. Six lane toll road before Ghatkesar till Raigir, which suddenly becomes a single lane all the way.
4. Reached Hanamkonda at 6.50am. After breakfast, started at 7.45am, less traffic and good roads till Pasara, after which a mini forest section with a single road for around 30kms. This stretch is quite narrow. As it was a long weekend, lots of vehicles started coming.
5. Before Etturnagaram saw another new wide road branch off, still we proceeded and reached the town at 9.15am. After some enquiry, learnt that the new road was the one we were supposed to take to the falls which leads to Bhopalpatnam as well.
6. Proceeded on that magnificent bridge and few kms ahead took a narrow strip to the falls. Spent around an hour near the falls, which had less water. Should be a good sight during the monsoon.
7. Started around 11.am, and went to Laknavaram lake and spent an hour there. Good amount of crowd, lined up for the boating.
8. Reached Hanamkonda at 2pm, and after lunch departed at 3pm and reached Hyd at 5.15pm, with couple of minor breaks in between.
9. One interesting fact about the newly constructed bridge at Etturnagaram is that it reduces the road distance by a whopping 175 kms to go across the river, as per some news links.

India Roadie Devang Sutarawala's Mahindra Quanto overturns near Rajamundry on 2015-12-27

Kolkata based Indian Roadie members Devang Sutarawala & his wife had driven to Hyderabad in their Mahindra Quanto in mid-December 2015. On 27th December 2015, they were on their return journey back home. They left Hyderabad early in the morning. Devang had posted an update to the effect on Facebook in the morning.

At 1.20pm, I (Deep Banerjee, the founder of Indian Roadie) got a call on my mobile from a nervous Devang.
Their car had overturned reportedly after the rear right tyre burst or developed a puncture & the mini SUV drifted to the right and banged the median divider. The unfortunate incident happened on NH5 at ‪‎Gandepally‬ about 50 kms north of Rajamundry (Andhra Pradesh).
Vehicle reportedly was badly damaged. Quite a few glasses had broken. Devang sustained cut injuries on his elbow which could have needed stitching. Wife was unhurt.

Flurry of phone calls to all my relevant contacts followed.
The day being the last Sunday in 2015, most of my contacts pan-India were either travelling, partying or had their mobiles switched off.

After a couple of tries, at 2.40pm I could directly get through to Mr.Jagan, General Manager (M&M Business Unit), NM Motors, Rajamundry. He assured me that by 4pm latest a tow van would reach the accident spot to get the Quanto back to Rajamundry well before sunset.
I even requested Mr.Jagan to make arrangements for a safe & comfortable stay for the couple in Rajamundry.

Moments later, I was informed in Kolkata that a tow van was on its way to bring back the car to Rajamundry.

At 6pm, I called Devang & was relieved to know that the car was already inside the M&M workshop of NM Motors. Devang & his wife were on their way to check in at Akansha Inn. Thereafter, Devang visited some clinic to dress up the wound.

Devang called me in Kolkata at 11pm from the decent Akansha Inn, Rajamundry where he had holed up with his wife. Fellow Indian Roadie Yogesh Srivastava, a senior professional with SBI Life Insurance ensured that a junior colleague of his visit Devang at the hotel. Fortunately, Devang's wound did not require stitching, either.
While talking to Devang, it appeared that he had regained much of his composure.
He was about to tuck himself under the blanket for a well deserved sleep.

On 28th morning Devang visited the doctor again for medication, cleaning & dressing of the wound on his elbow.
I had detailed telecons with Devang and Mr.Jagan throughout the day to ensure that the Quanto is restored to its original condition.
Towards the end of 28th December, NM Motors confirmed that the Quanto can be handed over after complete repairs only after 18 - 20 days.

Devang and his wife are scheduled to reach Kolkata by train on Wednesday, 30th December 2015.

Devang, we are all there with you. Kilometers that separate us don't matter.
