Roadies will no longer need to stop at the Gharaunda toll plaza on NH44

Commuters travelling on the Chandigarh–Delhi stretch of National Highway 44 will no longer need to stop at the Gharaunda toll plaza at Karnal, with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Thursday rolling out a Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system that allows automatic deduction of user fees through FASTag while vehicles pass at highway speed.

The NHAI has rolled out a Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system at the Gharaunda toll plaza on NH44, allowing Chandigarh-Delhi commuters to pass without stopping. User fees will be automatically deducted through FASTag, reducing travel time, fuel consumption and congestion.

A tiger was spotted sitting on Seoni-Nagpur national highway (NH44) in Seoni (near Pench), Madhya Pradesh on the intervening night of July 13 and 14, 2020.

Roadies being fined on NH44 in Karnal, Haryana for overspeeding, dark glasses, drunk driving, etc in February 2020

Roadies are fined in Karnal, Haryana on NH44 for overspeeding, films on glasses, drunk driving, non-existence of reflector tapes in trucks, etc.

This was a video by 'India Breaking News' from the location where checking was being carried out by Haryana Police personnel on the highway in end February 2020.
It's being mentioned by the police officer on duty that the official speed limit on that stretch is 100 kmph + 5% grace, which makes it 105 kmph. A car doing 106 kmph is fined ₹2000 on the spot.
Cars with dark films on glasses are fined a whooping ₹10000.
Drunk driving cases are referred to the courts.

Caution: Not all NH in India has an upper speed limit of 100 kmph. Most states/ locations have limits ranging from 40 - 80 kmph.
There are states, viz. West Bengal which don't object to dark glasses.
HP doesn't even allow any writings in the form of stickers on windshields or the body.

Attention Ministry of Road Transport and Highways:
MORTH has only given a set of directives to all the states and UTs. However, the implementation and interpretation seems to have been left to the ministers and 'babus' of the respective State governments.
With good road infrastructure, people are not left moving around within a town, district or state. With different set of local rules and impromptu interpretations by uncouth cops in different states, the road users are invariably at the receiving end.

Requesting  Nitin Gadkari to do something about it on a war footing and dole out exemplary punishment to erring police and RTO/ PVD officials.

Toyota Innova tyre burst kills JNTU VC near Anantpur on NH44 on 2017-02-22

A ghastly accident claimed the lives of the Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University Prof M M M Sarcar, his personal assistant and his driver on 2017-02-22. The accident took place in Pamidi Mandal, about 30 kms from Anantapur on NH-44 (erstwhile, NH7) .

The trio were travelling in a Toyota Innova when one of the front tyres of the car burst. The car was reportedly travelling at over 100 kmph at the time of crash. After the tyre burst, the driver lost control of the car which jumped over the median divider onto the other side of the road where it crashed into a truck that was coming in the opposite direction.

Everything ahead of the B-pillar of the Toyota Innova was crushed. The impact was so severe that all three died almost instantly and a crane had to be called to extract the bodies.

Govt of India announces four new roads as National Highways in Tripura in mid March 2016

The Union government declared four new roads as National Highways in Tripura in mid March 2016.

These roads are:
Jolaibari to Belonia (NH-108),
Khowai to Agartala (NH-108B),
Kumarghat to Subroom via Kailasahar, Khowai, Teliamura and Amarpur (NH-208) and
Kailasahar to Kukital (Kurti Bridge) (NH-208A).

The length of NH 208 will be 157.7 kms and the length of the NH 108 will be 22.9 kms.
Triura had a total of nearly 20,000 kms of road length.

The road from Churaibari to Subroom via Agartala was already enjoying the status of national highway.

Prior to the announcement, Tripura had two national highways, viz. NH 44 and NH 44A adding up to a total of 465.4 kms of national highway.

After the completion of construction of the four new national highways, the length of National Highways would be 750 kms in Tripura.
