Indian Roadie Drive For Food to Putiram on 2022-10-17 with Nikhilesh Roy

Indian Roadie Nikhilesh Roy and I drove to the plumbing accessories hub (market) in College Street, North Kolkata on 2022-10-17 afternoon for a lot of work. By evening we were terribly hungry. Nikhilesh suggested that we should walk down to have Singara (samosa), Kachuri (that's how we Bengalis pronounce Kachori) with thick Daal, Darbesh (a special sweet) and Rasogolla at the age old mithai shop Putiram on Surya Sen Street.
After more than two decades I entered the shop to have Kachuri and Daal. I was disappointed. Local shops in predominantly Bengali localities make far tastier Kachuris. The Rasogolla and Darbesh were nothing great either ☹️
Here are some photos from our Indian Roadie Drive For Food.

Road trip to Rabrigram and Furfura Sharif by Debasish Hazra in February 2022

Rabri Gram
From Dankuni drive on Dankuni-Champadanga Road via Jangalpara, Mosat Bazaar. From Mosat Bazaar turn left and reach the 5 point crossing at Aaniya. Drive a short distance straight ahead to reach Rabrigram/ Gangpur, a non descript village on the left.
At the entrance of Rabrigram there's lush green fields where where potato is grown.
Almost every household in the village is engaged in making of 'rabri'.
Even before one buys rabri, the rabri maker serves rabri for tasting straight from the iron kadai in which milk is simmered in coal, wood or gas fired stoves.
Rabrigram is approx 20 kms/ 45 mins from Dankuni.

Rabri is normally sold at ₹300 - 400 per kg. The rabri makers have provision to pack the rabri in plastic containers in such a way so that the content oesn't drip.
After reaching home, keep the containers in refrigerator.

Furfura Sharif
After visiting Rabrigram, drive back to Aaniya 5 point crossing, turn left on Singur-Borgachia Road. Furfura Sharif is just 4.5 kns ahead.
The main gate of Furfura Sharif is on the left of the road. Parking is along the road outside the main gate. Immediately after walking in, there's a large number of chairs and tables made of concrete. A smaller gate ahead leads to the main prayer hall in the mosque.
Construction of a huge building was in progress on the left. There's a 2 storied guest house nearby. It's normally all quiet inside.

Drive for food to Karwar - Indian Roadie Preferred Cafe

Indian Roadie Preferred Cafe - Karwar and surroundings.

SHWETHA LUNCH HOME, Karwar, KA is just off NH66 (erstwhile, NH17), inside Karwar. https://goo.gl/maps/c527ZHFuDhv6A1EV9

AMRUTH HOTEL, Karwar, KA might score more with its ambience and environment.
They are famous for their crab masala preparation.

FISHLAND RESTAURANT
(https://goo.gl/maps/t5dSrH6mBYZYF7AG7).
Fishland Restaurant is about 12-15 kms from Karwar towards Goa.
While driving from Karwar to Goa, drive past both state check posts and after some distance past the defunct Entry Tax toll now in ruins). Thereafter, there's a right curve (famous for accidents). From there drive another 1 - 2 kms. Fishland Restaurant is on the left.
It's not a great place to sit, but definitely the best joint to satisfy the appetite of travellers.

Note: Be there at Karwar by 10 am for breakfast, 1 pm for lunch, 7.30 pm for dinner.

Indian Roadie Drive For Food to Kolaghat for Hilsa Fish (ilish maach) on 2020-07-04 by Sukanta Banerjee

Sukanta Banerjee, an Indian Roadie from Kolkata appears to have done a lot research on where to find the best Hilsa fish (ilish maach) in Kolaghat, a small town on the banks of Rupnarayan River and approximately 75 kms from Kolkata towards Bhubaneswar.
He has recommended fellow roadies to visit Vidyasaagar Morh in Kolaghat for the best and fresh hilsa fish (ilish maach). While driving towards Kolkata, one has to turn left just before the bridge to reach Vidyasagar Morh.
The best time to visit Kolaghat for fresh 'ilish maach' is supposedly from 5 pm - 7 pm.
Our fellow roadie drove to Kolaghat with family exclusive for 'ilish maach' on Saturday, 2020-07-04.
He bought 3 hilsas of 900 - 950gms each @ ₹750 per kg. The price included removing the scales and slicing the fish according to his instructions.
He got some cooked out there itself. The taste and aroma was said to be awesome as expected.

'Ahuna Mutton Curry' at Champaran Meat House, the Indian Roadie Preferred Cafe in Patna is delicious

Whenever you are in Patna, the capital of Bihar, make it a point to visit Champaran Meat House, an eatery near the Planetarium and Income Tax Circle on Fraser Road.
This Indian Roadie Preferred Cafe churns out the most delicious 'Ahuna Mutton Curry' cooked in baked clay 'handis' (utensils).
The mutton is left to simmer on fire which is traditionally lighted with firewood and coal.
The mix of in-house 'masala' gives the mutton a truly lip-smacking taste.

'Ahuna Mutton Curry' is an authentic preparation of Motihari in Champaran district of North Bihar. It is bound to leave roadies spellbound 😍

If Patna is not in your driving route, don't panic. Roadies driving towards Siliguri, Sikkim, Bhutan and North East from the Lucknow end via the 6 laned East West Highway will have to cross Motihari enroute and can have a hearty meal of authentic 'Ahuna Mutton Curry'.

For the uninitiated, Motihari is between Gorakhpur and Muzaffarpur.

I myself have had Ahuna Mutton quite a few times in Patna and Motihari ever since 1983 😘

Indian Roadie Preferred Cafe in Udaipur, Rajasthan

Udaipur had once been land of Sisodia Rajputs. Being part of Mewar region, certain expectations regarding the cuisine of Udaipur is reasonable. Udaipur used to make one of the best kitchens for the Royal Monarchs. The city still serves the finest food to its dwellers and tourists. If one is planning to visit this beautiful city of lakes, there is no need to worry about meals, since the city has numerous restaurants. Many a restaurants dish up various cuisines, so there is no need ponder about what to eat.

Influenced by Vaishnavism, Udaipur cuisine is debarred of non-vegetarian dishes. Udaipur is famous for its Dal-Baati-Churma, Gatte-Ki-Sabzi, Kachori and Mirchi Bada. Meals are usually comprised of lentils, vegetables and a fantastic variety of spices. Lentil curries, yoghurt soups with deep fried breads and chilli fritters make the favorite feast. Ocra, dried mango and Sangri (beans) go together with most of the meals.

People, who are not very keen to try the cuisine of Udaipur, there are plenty of restaurants that dole out special cuisines ranging from Chinese and Thai to Intercontinental and Italian food. If fast food is the choice, one can find variety of patties, pastries, sandwiches, pizzas, Indian chat etc to satisfy the taste buds.

Udaipur has many eateries that serve thali (platter) and one can enjoy the unlimited servings of a selection of Rajasthani dishes including chapattis, daals, vegetables, rice, sweets and many more.
