Roadies being fined on NH44 in Karnal, Haryana for overspeeding, dark glasses, drunk driving, etc in February 2020

Roadies are fined in Karnal, Haryana on NH44 for overspeeding, films on glasses, drunk driving, non-existence of reflector tapes in trucks, etc.

This was a video by 'India Breaking News' from the location where checking was being carried out by Haryana Police personnel on the highway in end February 2020.
It's being mentioned by the police officer on duty that the official speed limit on that stretch is 100 kmph + 5% grace, which makes it 105 kmph. A car doing 106 kmph is fined ₹2000 on the spot.
Cars with dark films on glasses are fined a whooping ₹10000.
Drunk driving cases are referred to the courts.
.
.
Caution: Not all NH in India has an upper speed limit of 100 kmph. Most states/ locations have limits ranging from 40 - 80 kmph.
There are states, viz. West Bengal which don't object to dark glasses.
HP doesn't even allow any writings in the form of stickers on windshields or the body.

Attention Ministry of Road Transport and Highways:
MORTH has only given a set of directives to all the states and UTs. However, the implementation and interpretation seems to have been left to the ministers and 'babus' of the respective State governments.
With good road infrastructure, people are not left moving around within a town, district or state. With different set of local rules and impromptu interpretations by uncouth cops in different states, the road users are invariably at the receiving end.

Requesting  Nitin Gadkari to do something about it on a war footing and dole out exemplary punishment to erring police and RTO/ PVD officials.

Mumbai Pune electric bus launched by Nitin Gadkari on 2020-02-14

India's first inter-city electric bus service between Mumbai and Pune launched on 2020-02-14, will operate twice everyday.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday launched India’s first inter-city electric bus service between Mumbai and Pune. The company associated with this service said that they are planning to extend these services in other parts of Maharashtra and adjoining states in the near future.

The 43-seater capacity luxury electric bus is capable to operate within a range of 300 kilometres on a single charge and would be operated twice daily between the two cities.

Manufactured by Mitra Mobility Solution, the bus will be operated by Prasanna Purple Mobility Solutions which said that the firm has around 1,300 electric buses in operation.

Speaking at the event Gadkari said from the past 4-5 years he has been making an all-out effort to see that electric buses run in large numbers on the highways of the country.

He also expressed confidence that various corporations, state government corporations and private operators might order some 10,000 electric buses this year and added that the government was planning to build e-(electric) highways to facilitate the smooth operation of these electric buses.

Gadkari, who is the Minister for Transport, Highways and MSMEs, had earlier invited private players to invest alongside the government in developing the proposed electric lane on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway which is set to be completed in the next three years.

He further said that investors serious about this proposal will have to invest Rs 1.03 lakh crore and will also receive support from the government in terms of policies.

This new expressway will cut down the travel time between India’s financial capital and the national capital to just 12-13 hours.

Under the Narendra Modi-led NDA government, the focus has shifted from petrol and diesel vehicles to electric vehicles.

Gadkari had earlier said that all buses in the country would be converted into electric within a span two years.

Last year, the union minister had said that the Centre will not force the automobile industry to switch to cleaner sources of commute adding that there was no need to ban petrol and diesel vehicles or make the switch to EVs mandatory.

Harassment of Suresh Joseph at Navalur Toll Plaza, near Chennai on 2019-11-04

Many reports and videos have emanated in social media over the years of ill treatment meted out to toll booth operators.

I (Suresh Joseph), had the opposite experience when I was abused by two young toll booth operators at the Navallur toll booth this afternoon (Monday, 2019-11-04) as I was returning from office.

As I didn't have change I handed over Rs. 2000 for a one way toll of Rs. 27. The toll operator asked me for change to which I said that I had only Rs. 20 with me. The operator asked where he could go for change if I gave him the higher denomination. To this I replied that the denomination is legal tender. He flew into a rage and told his colleagues to go and collect as many coins as possible to return change to me in coins. I said I would wait for the change. All he could muster was Rs. 73 in coins and the rest was given in notes. When I was counting the coins the two operators ganged up and started violently gesticulating and abusing in Tamil, behaving like goons rather than as the service providers they are. I am attaching a photo of the two for authorities to take action and warn others of the duo.

Assam's 126-km long twin bridges will be India's largest

The longest bridge in the country will come up in Assam soon. Twin bridges running along 126 kilometres will stretch from Sivasagar in Upper Assam, connecting the river island Majuli to the rest of the state.

“The project, running up to Rs 15,000 crores, has been sanctioned by the Centre. A South Korean company is working on a detailed project report (DPR) which will take a year to complete,” Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal told DNA.

The bridges, Sonowal said, will start at the Nitai Pukhuri bridge in Sivasagar, pass via the Tekeli Phuta bridge in Dhakuakhana, from where the bridge will trifurcate and connect Majuli island at the ports at Kamalabari and at Nemati.

Majuli, the biggest river island in the world, was earlier part of the Jorhat district, and is Sonowal’s constituency. He had promised to declare Majuli a district and build a bridge to connect it to the mainland. Majuli has now been declared a district.

Sonowal also said the state is also working on the island’s problem of erosion. “We are working on a project to dredge the riverbed so that it can hold more water. This will allow for the passage for ships of up to 10,000 metric tonnes via the river,” he added.

The CM said that the sand that will be deposited on both sides of the river will be converted into national highways to stop the erosion. Sonowal added that the idea was mooted by the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari.

Waterways as a mode of transport has been largely ignored, he said. “The British used the Brahmaputra to transport Digboi’s oil, Margherita’s coal and Tinsukia and Dibrugarh’s tea, on to Bangladesh via the Padma, and then on to other parts of the world to develop a global trade environment. The river is the cheapest mode of travel. If rail transport costs you a rupee and road transport Rs 1.5, river transport costs only 30 paise,” said Sonowal.

Now, Indians will drive in peace with digital documents

You can now drive with your driving licence, vehicle registration certificate and insurance papers safely kept at home as the government launched this facility with DigiLocker, which transport minister Nitin Gadkari said would arrest corruption and bring in transparency .
You can access digital copies of the documents on the mobile phone using the DigiLocker app.

Road transport and IT ministries jointly launched on Wednesday integration of DigiLocker with driving licences (DLs) and vehicle registration certificates (RCs), which enables the user to download these digitally verified documents.Under this arrangement, the transport ministry's National Register has been integrated with DigiLocker.

Once the data from the remaining RTOs is updated in the National Register, the digital copies of those driving licences and vehicle registration certificates will also be available via DigiLocker.

This is seen as the largest integration under DigiLocker system so far as the national registry of the transport ministry has 19.6 crore RCs and 9.2 crore DLs.

Since the source of such digitally verified documents is government entities, these will be deemed valid by law enforcement agencies including traffic police. This will effectively free people from the hassle of carrying paper documents everywhere they go.

"All such downloaded documents will have the QR code to authenticate them and as per the IT Act all digitally signed documents will be treated at par with the physical issued documents," said an IT ministry official. He said they will soon start campaigns to make personnel of all enforcement agencies aware of this provision.

Launching the service, Gadkari said,"There will be a few, who will be unhappy as they will no more have `Lakshmi Darshan' (bribe money)." IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said DigiLocker will prove to be a programme for transforming India and achieving the vision of paperless governance.

In order to access the digital RC and DL, one needs to first sign up for a DigiLocker. He then needs to download the DigiLocker app. In the mobile app he will have to select the issued documents section. The enforcement personnel such as traffic police can verify the soft copies offline using the QR code.
