Varanasi to have ropeway for public transportation in 2022

True Indians will be delighted to learn that Varanasi, infamous for it's overcrowded streets will join the list of world's handful of cities which will have a 4 kms stretch of ropeway (in Phase 1) for public transportation.
A round trip will transport upwards of 7000 people. The service will be available 24x7. It is expected to start ferrying people right upto Dasas Swamedh Ghat on the banks of Ganga River in 2022 itself.

It's a known fact that some people will be mighty displeased to know about this development, but no one cares about what and how they feel!

Blue Lassi, Varanasi - Indian Roadie Preferred Cafe

We have all heard a lot about BLUE LASSI, the shop famous for Lassi in Varanasi. It's said that the name of the shop was given by a Korean girl years ago.

The taste is great with liberal mixes of dry fruits and 'malai'. However, be prepared to shell out a stiff ₹120 for a medium sized clay cup serving of the refreshing drink.

Our Initial plan was to return from Munsiyari via Madkot - Jauljibi - Ogla - Pithoragarh route , but with local input and drive till Barkot with local car changed our mind , due to construction work this road is in very bad shape and closing /  opening time imposed , so we decided to come back via Thal and go to Patal Bhubaneswar , Patal Bhubaneswar was a terrific experience with a hole  90 ft long cave entrance and the cave itself , KMVN TRH we did not like also they did not have dedicated parking space , we stayed in a private resort ' Shailsa Resort ' , which was good with large parking , about 3 Kms from the cave .

Roads are very very bad rather horrible condition between Ghat and Lohaghat section, and again between champabat and Tanakpur due to road expansion work , few stretches are good where construction is completed , suggest avoid this route till complete expansion work is completed   . Was there in Mayawati Ashram at right time and in absolutely right  moment for lunch / Prasad break . Tanakpur KMVN TRH is ideally located , right on highway . Got a good scrubbing of the car after a long and muddy / dusty ride .

Messy state of NH19 from Varanasi to Prayagraj in July 2019

Roadie, Shekhar Maurya drove #Varanasi_Prayagraj (erstwhile, #Allahabad), 120 Kms of messy stretch on NH19 (erstwhile, NH2) via Handia 2019-07-21 around 4.30pm.
Lots of infrastructure development work, viz. road widening and flyover construction were being carried out on the entire stretch of the GQ.
There were huge and frequent traffic snarls, too.
However, there was no respite from paying stiff toll plaza charges.

Road trip to Bandhavgarh and Kanha from Kolkata for jungle safari in May 2016

Bandhavgarh National Park:
The forest area in the Umaria District of Madhya Pradesh has been protected and declared a National Park since 1968. It is home to a substantial tiger population and one of the largest National Parks in central India.

Kanha National Park:
The forest area under Kanha National Park is one of the most well maintained parks in Asia since its inception in 1955. It is home to the highly endangered species of Swamp Deer and has been in attention for the extensive efforts undertaken to conserve them. Another attractive feature out here is the sunset point, Bamni Dadar from which one can catch a 360-degree view of the surroundings around and the wildlife in their natural habitat.

In May 2016 an Indian Roadie fan and his family drove in his Maruti Swift VXi from Kolkata to Bandhavgarh and Kanha tiger reserve forests and back covering a total distance of 2590 kms in 8 days.

* The road stretch from Rewa to Bandhavgarh via Beohari was better than his expectation and had no great reasons to complain. He had tanked up his car to the brim in Rewa fearing that facilities might be bad upto Beohari.
* He was awed by the beauty of the reasonably good road stretch between Bandhavgarh & Kanha.
* The road surface between Kanha and Raipur was also satisfactory.

He was lucky to spot two tigers during one of the jungle safaris in a Maruti Gypsy. He went for 2 jungle safaris in Bandhavgarh and 1 in Kanha.
Locals had told him that he could be lucky to spot a tiger or two even on the state highway!
He was also warned not to stop his car or get out of the car to click photos in the event of spotting animals crossing the highway or relaxing in the jungles to ensure his own safety.

The route/ itinerary from and to Kolkata:

Day 1: Kolkata - Asansol - Varanasi (680 kms/ 12 hrs).
Day 2: Varanasi - Narayanpur - Mirzapur - Bhaisore UP/MP border - Hanumana - Managwan - Rewa - Govindgarh - Beohari - Bandhavgarh (390 kms).
Day 3: Bandhavgarh jungle safari.
Day 4: Bandhavgarh jungle safari.
Day 5: Bandhavgarh - Umaria - Shahpura - Mandla - Rata - Kanha Tiger Reserve (240 kms).
Day 6: Kanha tiger reserve forest & jungle safari.
Day 7: Kanha - Raipur - Saraipalli - Bargarh - Sambalpur (510 kms/ 11 hrs).
Day 8: Sambalpur - Rairakhole - Angul - Dhenkanal - Manguli Chowk - Bhadrak - Balasore - Kharagpur - Kolkata (696 kms/ 11 hrs 30 mins).

Break-up of intermediate distances and driving time:

** Junction of NH2 and NH7 (near Ramnagar prior to Ambedkar Bridge over River Ganges at Varanasi) to Rewa via NH7 = 230 kms.
** Rewa to Bandhavgarh National Park via Beohari and via Madhya Pradesh State Highway No. 9 = 145 kms/ 3hrs 15 mins.
** Bandhavgarh to Rata via Umaria, Shahpura and via SH-11 = 225 kms/ 4 hrs 30 mins.
** Rata to Kanha Tiger Reserve = 12 kms.
** Kanha to Raipur via NH30 = 220 kms/ 4 hrs 45 mins.

** Sambalpur (Gole Bazaar) to Manguli Chowk = 280 kms/ 5 hrs 45 mins.
** Manguli Chowk to Balasore (Phulwari Chowk) via NH16 (erstwhile, NH5) = 176 kms/ 2 hrs 15 mins.
** Balasore (Phulwari Chowk) to Kharagpur (NH6 crossing) via NH60 = 126 kms/ 1 hr 15 mins.
** Kharagpur (NH6 crossing) to Kolkata (Vivekananda Setu/ 2nd Hooghly Bridge toll plaza) = 117 kms/ 2 hrs 15 mins.

He stayed at the Club Mahindra Kanha Resort.

Total driving distance: 2590 kms (including local travel at the locations visited).

Kashi Chat Bhandar at Godowlia, Varanasi serves the best 'chat' in Varanasi

Totally unpretentious far from overtly clean, yet jam packed constantly - that's Kashi Chat Bhandar for you.

Kashi Chat Bhandar at Godowlia, which is about 3.5 kms from the Varanasi railway station and on way to the must visit Dasaswamedh Ghat treats visitors to the original and authentic Banarasi Chat. Once you enter, you become mad with the aroma of Indian chat spices and herbs. The smell of pure desi ghee is intoxicating. Even the most health conscious and waistline watcher will also default.

Dig into the spicy chaat, spicy tikkis, chura matar, tangy golgappas and tamatar chaat. They give their customers pudina tamarind spicy water to fill the golgappas. The sweet version of golgappa with dahi and tamarind chutney is another unique offering by Kashi Chat Bhandar.

Eat each and every thing available. Don't miss these while in Varanasi.
