Langcha of Shaktigarh, West Bengal

For roadies across India other than those in the Kolkata to Dhanbad region, a small town named Shaktigarh in East Burdwan district of West Bengal, about 15 kms prior to reaching Burdwan/ Bardhaman town while driving from Kolkata, might not strike a chord in their ears.
Shaktigarh is famous for its langcha/ lyangcha, cherished immensely by those with a sweet tooth. There are about 30 shops lining both sides of NH19, all selling langchas/ lyangchas. All the shops have names which have langcha or lyangcha as the prefix.
During yesteryears when G.T.Road was the lifeline between Kolkata and Delhi, all the shops were located on both flanks of the narrow throughfare. Once NHAI completed building the Kolkata to Delhi arm of 4 laned Golden Quadrilateral, the shop-owners had no other option but to buy land along the GQ and relocate their business. The business of selling langchas is fully dependent on traffic plying on NH19 (erstwhile, NH2).
The attached video presented by History channel will be an eye opener for all roadies.
