Road trip to Ranchi, Hundru and Johna Waterfalls, Jharkhand by Asit Madeka in mid November 2021

Asit Madeka, an Indian Roadie who is a resident of Sitarampur (near Asansol) drove his Hyundai i10 Grand to Ranchi and onwards to Johna and Hundru Waterfalls on a rain soaked weekend in mid November 2021.

Day 1 (12th November, 2021):
Asansol to Ranchi (Asansol_Ranchi)

Route (onwards journey): Asansol - Sitarampur - Barakar River bridge/ Kalyaneswari - Kumardhubi bypass - Nirsa - Gobindpur (NH19, ROL: To Dhanbad) - Rajgunj (Exit NH19, Turn left) - Katras - Sonardih - Mahuda More - Damodar River bridge - Damodar toll plaza - Bokaro Steel City (on right)/ Chas - Petarbar - Gola - Oarmanjhi (Meets Ranchi Patna National Highway, ROR: Ramgarh Cantonment, ROL: Ranchi) - Medanta Hospital Ranchi - BIT Mesra - Ranchi.

Road condition (onwards journey): Fairly good. Few traffic bottle necks at Govindpur, Rajgunj and Petarbar. The road from Gola to Oarmanjhi is fair but with a few very large and deep potholes. Driving was a bit slow on this stretch.

Day 2 (13th November, 2021):
Drove to Hundru Falls, Getelsud Dam and Johna Falls. Took the old Ranchi-Purulia Road. Road condition was very bad. Driving on top gear was a luxury. This route is best avoided. The feeder road to Hundru Falls was fantastic, a real pleasure driving on. However, many villages on the way with cattle and womenfolk with children on the road made driving dicey and cautious.
Since it had rained there was plenty of water all around.
Getelsud Dam falls on the way to Hundru Falls. The reservoir looks like a sea with its huge expanse of of water.
Thereafter, proceeded towards Johna Waterfalls.
All approach roads to the falls are in very good shape. There are stalls near parking place where one can get all types of packed and cooked food. Johna Falls is heavenly after rains and it is better to be prepared with raincoats as umbrellas become a burden.

Route (return journey): Oarmanjhi - Bokaro - Chas - Katras - Dhanbad - Govindpur (NH19) - Kumardhubi - Sitarampur.

The road condition was very good but with a lot of traffic movement.
