Road trip from Pune to Khajuraho, Gwalior and back in November 2021 by Radhakrishna K

Road trip from Pune to Indore, Sagar, Khajuraho, Gwalior and back via Nashik in early November 2021 by Radhakrishna K.

* Pune to Indore (approx. 630 kms):
The roads till Nashik are good apart from some single lane patches near Chakan, Rajgurunagar and Alephata. The bridge construction at Shinde is still in progress for which the diversion used is in terrible state. Rest of the road ahead from Nashik – Pimpalgaon - Malegoan – Dhule – Sendhwa – Indore are excellent barring few bone jarring speed breakers on highways.

* Indore to Bhopal (approx. 185 kms):
Good roads to drive. Bhopal bypass is four laned but have some unseen speed humps. The toll on Bhopal bypass only accepts Cash and do not accept Fastag.

* Bhopal to Sagar (approx. 170 kms), Sagar to Khajuraho (approx. 200 kms):
Newly laid tarmac till Vidisha. From Vidisha onwards excellent patch to maintain triple digits till Sagar. The bypass of Sagar is good with some speed breakers in between.
From Sagar onwards next 30-40 Kms are in terrible state with broken roads and deep potholes. The roads again become excellent in forest section till 10 Kms ahead of Chhatarpur. The last 10 Kms till Chhatarpur are also in bad state as lot of dusty diversions are created. The town of Chhatarpur is pain to drive as it sees lot of miscellaneous traffic.
From Chhatarpur onwards till Khajuraho there is newly laid excellent highway where one can maintain triple digits.

* Khajuraho to Jhansi (approx. 175 kms):  Excellent newly laid highway with less traffic and speed limit of 100 kmph. There are still 3-4 diversions post Maurinapur. Few of these diversions are from nearby villages while few are parallel to highway but in terrible state. One needs to lookout for vehicles travelling on wrong side on your right lane. There are many trucks as well coming in wrong lane.

* Jhansi to Gwalior (approx. 100 kms): All good roads where one can maintain triple digits as speed limit is 100.

* Gwalior to Indore (approx. 505 kms): Excellent roads throughout. Fortunately, I came across only 2-3 cows in entire stretch, hope this remains same.

* Indore to Nashik (approx. 425 kms), Nashik to Pune (approx. 210 kms): The road from Indore to Nashik is good in state with few bone jarring speed rumblers in between. The patch between Dhule – Malegaon – Nashik has few sections where they have re-laid new tar hence the potholes were less as compared to few weeks before.
From Nashik till Pune the roads are good but faced lot of traffic post Alephata till Bhosari.

P.S: Narrated in the first person by Roadie Radhakrishna K after his drive in early November 2021.
