While driving from Srinagar to Sonamarg (Sonamarg_Srinagar 80 kms) via the Srinagar-Leh National Highway, there's a small town halfway named Cherwan on the left banks of Sind River.
The attached #IndianRoadieDistanceSignage was spotted a short distance after crossing Cherwan.
Cherwan to Sonamarg is about 40 kms.
Kargil is 155 kms ahead while Leh is 381 kms ahead from the spot.
The ubiquitous white letterings on green road signage boards give roadies a fair idea of which place is where and the distances of places from where the photos are clicked.
Get your bearings right by reading these boards.
I (Deep Banerjee, Founder - Indian Roadie and associated forums) hardly ever use online navigation maps while on highways. These signage boards are my best bet.
