Ride from Burdwan to Ranchi (Burdwan_Ranchi) and surroundings to get glimpses of Jharkhand's monsoon impregnated waterfalls:
Day 1: Bardhaman to Ranchi, excellent road conditions via Durgapur, Asansol, Barakar, Gobindpur. Post Rajganj (where one turns left from NH19) didn’t give much opportunities to praise about. The starting 10-15 km from Rajganj towards Bokaro being in the most pitiful state.
Visited the mighty Hundru and majestic Jonha waterfalls on the way to Ranchi. Thankfully, except short spans of mild drizzles there was no downpour to bother me. One doesn't really need to hike up and down countless stairs to enjoy Hundru or Jonha. You can very clearly get their views in full glory if you get the right spot. We entered Ranchi after it had already rained there. Roads had few inches high water making us all more wet. Plan was to navigate to the hotel and chill.
Day 2: A late start as anticipated. It was raining. We rode to Dassam Falls. The wet path connecting the Jamshedpur Highway to Dassam Falls was very scenic. After reaching the waterfall, we were awestruck by its grandeur. Next destination was the Sun Temple, some 15-20 km away, almost on the highway towards Jamshedpur. Rain had refused to part with us. We headed to Patratu Dam, mainly to enjoy its twisty ghat roads. We could indulge in boating over the lake but the imminent sunset was bothering me. I am strictly against night riding.
Day 3: Checked out of our hotel very late as we hardly had any plan than returning home to Bardhaman. Couldn’t resist visiting Rajrappa on our way back. Slight detour didn’t bother us. Roads were excellent. Rajrappa has nothing to offer you unless you are a devotee.
Odo: 911 kms.
Trophy of the trip: Dassam Falls.
Hotel: Arham Inn, Ranchi. It is okay for backpackers and solo travelers as long as the guest is not looking for in-hotel services.
