Road trip from Pune to Kanha and back by Nilesh S in Mahindra Thar








Completed a trip of 2341 km (round) Pune (PCMC) - Aurangabad - Jabalpur - Kanha - Pune (PCMC) in December 2021 - January 2022 in Mahindra Thar. 

Route taken: 

1. PCMC - Shikrapur - Ahmednagar Bypass - Aurangabad
2. Aurangabad - Jalna - Sindkhed Raja - Amravati
3. Amravati - Wadi - Nagpur ring road - Kamptee - Jabalpur
4. Jabalpur - Mandla - Chiraidongri - Kanha
5. Kanha - Chiraidongri - Nainpur - Seoni Bypass - Pench
6. Pench - Kamptee - Nagpur ring road - Wadi - Amravati
7. Amravati - Sultanpur - Lonar - Dusarbid - Jalna - Aurangabad
8. Aurangabad - Ahmednagar bypass - Alephata - Chakan - PCMC

Road conditions (as per numbering above):

#1 Average/poor, lot of patch work, Ahmednagar bypass is mostly good

#2 Patchwork 4 lane up to Jalna, 2 lane thereon but average/poor with patchwork, unmarked speed breakers, Karanja - Badnapur is 2 lane NH new concrete, very good. Badnapur - Amravati under construction.

#3 4 lane throughout, except in some parts between Nagpur - Jabalpur, good roads

#4 2 lane throughout, some construction work up to Mandla, don't get confused at Y junction before Mandla bypass where it points straight to Kanha, bypass turns left and takes you elsewhere

#5 2 lane mostly, good roads

#6 Same as #3

#7 Mostly same as #2, Lonar - Kingaon Jattu - Dusarbid is very good PWD road

#8 Average with lot of patch work up to Ahmednagar, from Ahmednagar bypass to Alephata, very good tolled 2 lane NH. Narayngaon and Khed ghat bypass is functional. Tolls have been stopped at Rajgurunagar and Moshi toll plazas. 

I define good road as one which is not bumpy when driven at 60-80. Bumpiness depends on vehicle - I drive a Thar CRDE which has stiff suspension.

Saw two Eritga interceptors throughout the trip in MH (no did not get speeding ticket as I was within limit).
