Tapsi Pannu takes delivery of her new Jeep Compass in July 2019

Bollywood actress Tapsi Pannu walked in to take delivery of her new Jeep Compass at a Mumbai showroom in July 2019.
This is what she got to experience, an effort supposedly to create customer delight.
I have always stressed that the automobile companies in India, across brands have poor 'marketing' brains. If this is their level of innovativeness, it's not hard to predict why sales figure have touched a phenomenal low ever since mid 2018.
Just because songs and dance worked well for KFC and Pizza Hut, doesn't mean that similar stunts will work for automobiles.
Can't you'll guys be original and think harder? And why this selective treatment for one customer?

Road trip to Sach Pass in July 2019 - by Ankur Rapria

Ankur Rapria from the NCR drove his Mahindra Thar to Sach Pass, Killar, etc in July 2019. Here's what he had to write to express his experience.

Sach Pass is called "Grand Daddy of all mountain passes" and sometimes the name is enough to give shivers down the spine. A trip to Sach Pass means that you will be driving on a narrow badly broken dirt road, with a steep ascent; through numerous water streams; some of which so deep that you might as well just swim across. Add to it the fact that there are several waterfalls on the way; falling right on the road.  Landslides and slush is way too common a thing.  Lose rocks are spread all across the way. If you are traveling early in the season; then 20 to 30 ft of snow walls will be on both sides of the road. Yes, this is Sach Pass. A dream journey for anyone who has interest in either adventure or off-roading.

Noble initiative by Mukesh Sharma to send relief materials from Bangalore to flood affected people in Assam in July 2019

Glad to share that a truck carrying relief materials for flood-affected people in Assam left Bangalore on Tuesday, 2019-07-23 night. It is carrying a lot of food items like Rice, Dal, Milk packets, biscuits besides a lot of clothes. In the overall scheme of things, this is like a drop in the ocean. But it carries a lot of love and best wishes from many Bengalureans for the flood affected people of Assam. The message is we know you are going thru a lot of hardships and we hope you receive all the help that is required, be it from the Govt or others so that you can come out of this harsh tragedy and resume your normal life soon.

Messy state of NH19 from Varanasi to Prayagraj in July 2019

Roadie, Shekhar Maurya drove #Varanasi_Prayagraj (erstwhile, #Allahabad), 120 Kms of messy stretch on NH19 (erstwhile, NH2) via Handia 2019-07-21 around 4.30pm.
Lots of infrastructure development work, viz. road widening and flyover construction were being carried out on the entire stretch of the GQ.
There were huge and frequent traffic snarls, too.
However, there was no respite from paying stiff toll plaza charges.

WBTDC Bakhkhali Sea Beach - Indian Roadie Preferred Hotel

Bakkhali WBTDC hotel is one of the best. Rooms are big with a balcony attached. Rooms are well maintained. This hotel is at the best location and nearest to the beach.

In July 2019, renovation is in progress. One can only go for spot booking.

Only deluxe double bedrooms are available and all the rooms  same decor and size.

AC double bedroom Tariff includes complementary breakfast-  Rs 2240/day (Friday-Sunday)
Rs 1560/day (Monday -Thursday)

Food:  In my opinion, food is a bit expensive and taste is average compared to the price. One word of caution, don't go for thalis, the quantity is not good enough even for 1 person.
Complementary breakfast:  You have to chose between bread/omlette or Puri/sabzi.

There are plenty of eatouts beside the hotel, you can give a shot at one of those for some good hilsa dishes.

Overall Rooms are very good compared to WBTDC hotels but food needs improvement.

Sherrin Varghese of Mumbai helped critically injured accident victims on Pune - Mumbai Expressway by reaching them to a hospital on 2019-07-08 morning

Sherrin Varghese, a singer, actor and live performer from Mumbai was on the Mumbai - Pune Expressway in heavy rains on Monday, 2019-07-08 morning. He detailed what he bumped upon and his subsequent action on his Facebook wall at 10.39am on the same morning.

The same is reproduced verbatim on #IndianRoadie, #CarrotNStick, #HowIndiaTravels.
Read on .....

You see that?! That is the bloodstain of an unfortunate accident victim who I helped on the Mumbai Pune Expressway today morning just after the ghats. It was raining heavily and everyone was cruising at 100 kmph which suddenly turned into a bottleneck for 10 minutes. Google maps showed a short stretch of red immediately ahead of me & I figured something was wrong!

On reaching the accident site I was appalled to see a car blown to pieces with a man still in the car holding on dearly to his unconscious sister’s forehead which was cut very badly and a lot of people just milling around. I shouted asking if anybody needs help and they said yes. Got them to MGM Hospital, Kalamboli, which was a gruelling 30 kms away from there.

It was mindnumbing to hear the brother wince in pain at every bump that he was feeling magnified because of the hurt and I could feel him cursing his luck at not being able to brake in time because of his slippers which caused him to run into a truck. Kept talking to him so he doesn’t pass out and he kept his finger inside your sisters mouth so that she doesn’t choke on the gurgling blood that was coming out of her mouth.

Dr Gandhi from Mahatma Gandhi Hospital Kalamboli said she’s in a very bad state and he should be okay.

The reason for me to put up this post was cause I can’t believe that in the 10 minutes that we stalled about 50 to 60 cars must have passed the accident site without anyone offering help. Are we really that jaded a lot that we don’t stop for people who’ve gotten hurt?!

I mean why is it that human life has no value in our country? Cops at the toll naka were more concerned & satisfied that they had managed to catch hold of the truck driver who had fled the situation fearing mob justice perhaps, rather than escorting us to the nearest hospital, given the victims conditions, heavy rains & us having no whereabouts of this place except what’s showing on google maps with sketchy internet.

Even the doctor told me “Don’t worry sir, nothing is going to happen to you!”.
Really?!?... This is 2019 and we still have to worry about helping accident victims!!!
I couldn’t have been the only person travelling alone amongst those 40-50 cars before me!

Amit Mhatre, I think your drum mat just may have saved her life as her bruised head was being contained in it by this guy.

When did we stop being human!???

Please always help accident victims!

Road trip to Mosale, 14 kms south of Hassan in Karnataka

Nageshvara-Chennakeshava Temple complex dedicated to Siva and Vishnu, is located at Mosale, 14 km south of Hassan, Karnataka.

Built in 1200 CE during the reign of Hoysala King Veera Ballala II, the twin temples are an elegant example of Hoysala architecture.

Temples are highly ornate and richly carved, with elaborate sculpturing and lathe turned pillars! With inner walls, outer walls, ceilings, shikharas, eaves, all filled with intricate carvings, this great piece of art showcases the exquisite craftsmanship of those times.

The twin Ekakuta temples are complete with typical hoysala components such as Garbhagriha, Shikhara, Sukhanasi, Navaranga, maha mandapa, and Kalasha.

What a creation which is 800 yrs old!

Supreme Court of India has said that within the confines of a private vehicle is public place

Bihar Prohibition: Private vehicle plying on public road is Public Place, Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court today held that a private vehicle plying on public road will fall within the definition of  "public place"  under Bihar Excise (Amendment) Act 2016 (Act).

The judgment was rendered by a Bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan and KM Joseph in an appeal against a decision of the Patna High Court.

The petitioners were travelling in their car from Giridih in Jharkhand to Patna. Their vehicle was stopped at the Rajauli Check Post at the Bihar Jharkhand border for a routine checkup.

Though there was nothing incriminating in the vehicle, the sub-inspector allegedly demanded a bribe.

It is the petitioner's case that when they refused to pay, false charges under Section 53(a) of the Act was slapped against them based on forged breath analyser test.

Subsequently, by way of an order passed in July 2016, Judicial Magistrate, Nawada took cognizance of the case. Against the same, the petitioner approached the Patna High Court under Section 482 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) seeking quashing of the FIR.

The High Court, however, dismissed the plea and gave green signal for the trial whereupon the petitioners moved the Supreme Court.

Before the Supreme Court, it was contended that the courts below failed to take into account that there was no definitive proof that the petitioners consumed alcohol in Bihar.

As per section 53(a) of the Act, consumption of alcohol in a public or prohibited area in the territory of State of Bihar is an offence. As no alcohol was found on person or vehicle of the petitioners, the FIR against the petitioners was not maintainable, it was submitted.

It was further argued that no alcohol was found in the vehicle and since the arrest was made at the Jharkhand- Bihar border, it was impossible that the petitioners could have consumed alcohol within the territory of Bihar.

Interestingly, the petitioners also submitted that a car plying on the road cannot be considered a public place under the Section 2(17A) of Bihar Excise (Amendment) Act, 2016.

Section 2(17A) reads as follows:

"Public Place means any place to which public have access, whether as a matter of right or not and includes all places visited by general public and also includes any open space.”

When a private vehicle is passing through a public road it cannot be accepted that the public has no access to it, the Court said.  While the public may not have access to the private vehicle as a matter of right, they definitely have the opportunity to approach the private vehicle while it is on the public road.

Further, the omission of the words 'public conveyance' (which was earlier present in a 1978 notification defining 'public place') in the definition of Section 2(17A) brought by the Bihar Excise (Amendment)Act, 2016 also indicated that the difference between public conveyance and private conveyance was done away in the statutory amendment.

Thus, the Court held that it cannot accept the submission of the petitioners that private conveyance will be excluded from the definition of 'public place' as contained in Section 2(17A). Thus, a private vehicle on a public road is covered by the definition of public place under Section 2(17A), the Court ruled.

However, regarding the contention that the offence under Section 53(a) was not made out, the Court took a more considerate view. It noted that as per Section 53(a) of Bihar Excise (Amendment) Act 2016, the action of consumption of liquor has to happen within the State of Bihar. A person who consumes liquor in a different State cannot be fastened with a penalty under Section 53(a) unless there is some evidence to prove that consumption of liquor by the accused has taken place in the State of Bihar.

The Court also observed that this position has changed now with the enactment of the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, 2016. As per this Act, another category of offences have been included in Section 37 which provides for a situation explained as: “is found drunk or in a state of drunkenness at any place".

Thus, as per Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, 2016 even if a person consumes liquor outside the State of Bihar and enters into the territory of Bihar and is found drunk or in a state of drunkenness, he can be charged with offences under Section 37(b).

However, since the same was not provided for in Bihar Excise (Amendment) Act, 2016, the petitioners will get the benefit of the same.

The Court, however, said that it will not be able to decide whether the appellants/ petitioners actually consumed liquor in the territory of Bihar or not.

The same should be gone into the by the Magistrate after looking into the materials brought on record by means of the chargesheet, the Court said.

It, therefore, ordered that the petitioners shall be at liberty to file an application to discharge before the Magistrate who after considering the materials on record shall decide the said application in accordance with the law.

Advocate Rahul Shyam Bhandari appeared for the appellants/ petitioners.
