Reconstruction of Tala Bridge on Barrackpore Trunk Road to connect Shyambazar with locations further north in Kolkata is in full swing in spite of the Covid pandemic and monsoon.
The cable stayed 4 laned bridge (in place of 2 lanes earlier) of 610 mtrs in length and 15.5 mtrs wide is expected to be thrown open to heavy traffic movement by early 2022. 240 mtrs of th bridge will be over railway lines. The entire process of reconstruction had started in February - March 2020 after the old bridge was declared unsafe by experts.
