Hyderabad to Goa road trip in end July 2021 by Umang Singla.
Travellers: 2 Adults, 2 toddlers and 1 Dog 🐶
Route: Hyderabad - Zahirabad - Humnabad - Gulbarga (Kalaburgi)- Bijapur (Vijayapura) - Bagalkot - Belgaum - Chorla - Goa (North)
TSD: Approx 700 kms took us roughly 15+ hours with an avg odo speed of about 50kmph. This includes almost 2-2.5 hours of multiple purpose multi-breaks. 580 kms till Belgaum took us just about 10.5 hours and rest beyond that. 😄
Roads (as on 27th July’ 21) : Till Bagalkot the roads are almost 4 lane throughout and roads are excellent except crossing over Gulbarga which is slightly time consuming too. Bagalkot to Belgaum the roads are good to average. Beyond Belgaum, ghat roads start. While the roads are again a mix of good n not so good, it is an absolute treat to eyes driving through the forest roads. Beware of lots of speed breakers enroute as you pass through many villages.
Weather: The day we travelled it was almost sunny and pleasant till Belgaum. Post that there were rains on and off on Ghat section. Goa welcomed us with slight rains with in between heavy spells. It was already dark, Roads were not lit and with rains, it became a little tiring for everyone towards last 1.5 hours of travel.
Fuel - Ample fuel bunks enroute except the Ghat section where I don’t think there was any. So just fuel up at Belgaum if needed. We refueled twice - Before Zahirabad and then at Bagalkot.
State Entry/Masking/Tests: Nothing required for Karnataka. Infact, 99% folks all through Karnataka section were not using masks including at Fuel Stations. For Goa, there was a strict entry check for RTPCR (within last 72 hours) even if you’re fully vaccinated. I believe they’re also conducting tests at border for folks not carrying the report.
Pit Stops: Till about Bagalkot and Belgaum there is hardly a couple of road side basic eateries here n there. We didn’t stop at any. Belgaum is best bet as it has a couple of good hotels where you can take a good long break.
Some lovely photo stops - Just a few kms after Humnabad, around Bilgi (Almatti Dam) between Bijapur and Bagalkot, multiple points on ghat roads.
Toll Paid (All Fastag) : about INR 365 (will reconfirm from statement).
