Sambalpur to Lucknow - Indian Roadie Preferred Route driven by Lalit Tyagi

Lalit Tyagi drove on the following Indian Roadie Preferred Route for official work at Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) while driving Lucknow to Sambalpur and Sambalpur to Lucknow:

Sambalpur - Jharsuguda - Sundargarh - leave NH and turn left after 11 kms and start driving on OD State Highway - keep going on this beautiful  SH through small places like Subdega - Balisankara - OD-CG border - Tapakara - Kunkuri - Bageecha - Ambikapur - CG-UP border - Renukoot - Sonebhadra - Mirzapur - join NH19 (old NH2) at Gopiganj - Allahabad bypass - exit NH19 - Tunda - Raebareli - Lucknow.

Timings:
* Ambikapur to Renukot takes about 4 hrs.

Road condition:
* Once you leave Sambalpur - Rourkela NH after Sundargarh (at Karamdihi which is just 10-11 kms after Sundargarh), whole route is very scenic.

* Ambikapur to Renukoot is mostly good 2 lane road with occasional potholes but nothing much to worry, traffic is also very modest, mostly trucks or local bikes.
Lil less pleasant but very small sections on this route are:

* 10 kms very narrow, single village type road where we leave one broad 2 lane highway just outside Kunkuri to join another road coming from Jashpur.
Actually, this is a short cut, else one can continue on the highway and turn left to the that road coming from Jashpur later which would be longer by 40-45 kms.
This is just a 10 km stretch with no traffic except few bikes, and nice tarmac.

* Few potholes around Bageecha.

* Short stretch of 3-4 kms narrow single lane road, a few kms after Bageecha.

* Some potholes here and there between Bageecha and Ambikapur.

* Night driving is best avoided.

Pre-owned car dealers are crooks of the highest order

For those of you'll who are planning to buy a pre-owned car from a used car dealer, the attached poster is for them.
Never trust them by their glitzy showroom, sugar coated words, and the shining cars on display. There's never a good and honest pre-owned car dealer anywhere in India.
If you don't have the time, patience and intellect to find a direct seller who's the present owner,  abort the idea of owning a pre-owned car of any model.

Truck driver tried to immolate himself himself after being fed up of extortion and bullying by highway police

Fed up of extortion by the highway police sometime in June - July 2020, the driver of a multi-axle trailer truck wanted to self immolate on the highway itself 😩
The police did nothing to stop him. The cops preferred to drive away.
Extortion and bullying tactics by police on Indian highways must stop immediately.

Bangalore to Sambalpur road trip by Sujit Nayak during unlock 2 in mid July 2020

Bangalore to Sambalpur 14th - 15th July 2020 by Sujit Nayak.

Indian Roadie Preferred Route/ Motoring Route/ route: Bangalore - Kurnool - Hyderabad - Adilabad - Nagpur (bypass) - Raipur - Saraipalli - Bargarh - Sambalpur

Total Toll : 2416/- (2356 - FastTAG, 60 - Cash)
Fuel : 7472/- (88 Ltr)
Distance : 1745 Km
FE : 20 Kmpl (Approx)

ePass : No ePass.
Registered on Seva Sindhu Portal (KA) for travelling outside the state and registered on Odisha's portal for Members and the Mode of Travel & Vehicle details.  Had hardcopies of all of the above Application acknowledgments (These helped us in MH & CG)

In total, it took us 36 hours drive from Bangalore to Sambalpur. Started at 05:30 (14th July) from KR Puram, Bangalore, reached Sambalpur at 17:30 (15th July) . There was no long halt in between except one halt at a Fuel Station before Nagpur where we took a nap for about 2 hrs in the night. We slept inside the car itself keeping the AC ON and the vent taking the air from outside (circulating the inside air while sleeping may be lethal). Smaller halts were there as and when required. We had packed sufficient food items & water (drinking & washing) inside the car itself. While entering AP, they asked about the Destination and after showing the AADHAR Card (from inside the car) they let us go. There were no further checks until the MH entry border near Adilabad where they just asked for few details such as Mobile Number, Source, Destination and we had to tell those from inside the car itself. Somewhere after crossing Bhandara, just after a toll plaza one cop stopped us and was asking for ePass ; showing the registration acknowledgements from SevaSindhu portal convinced him. The entry to CG was a bit different. We had to park our Car near the check point and had to go to a temporary tent and register the car number along with name, mobile number, source & destination. There was no form or we didn't have to fill anything, we just had to tell and one personnel was noting it in a register.
In CG we were stopped one more time and asked about ePass. We had to get down and went near two officials sitting in one of the shop. We told we have registered on Karnataka's Portal and Odisha's portal. After showing the Application acknowledgements & AADHAR they got convinced. The roads in MH are the worst and at few places due to construction of flyover, the traffic takes lot more time. The road condition in CG is good but the unpredictable traffic and cows on the roads will not let you go fast. There were no checks at Odisha boarder. FastTAG was a relief to avoid currency exchange and to maintain social distancing. There were 30 tolls in total and in two (one in MH and other CG), there was no FastTAG and at those places after getting the balance cash, kept it inside an air-tight box along with 5-10 ml of hand-sanitizer (Safety matters !)
Hope this post will help you in planning your trip during this pandemic situation. Stay Safe !

Century old Amrutanjan Bridge on Mumbai - Pune Expressway demolished

Century old Amrutanjan Bridge on Mumbai - Pune Expressway demolished on Sunday, 2020-04-05 during the nationwide lockdown 1.0.
The bridge was opened on November 10, 1830, as a key rail connector between Mumbai and Pune. It got its name due to a massive hoarding of Amrutanjan at the location. It later served as the third line for the Railways on the Bhor ghat section to reverse engines.
Once the Mumbai Pune Expressway was opened to vehicular traffic, the space under the Amrutanjan bridge was narrow and had a sharp turn. Loaded trucks had to struggle climbing the incline and simultaneously maneuvering the turns under the bridge. Innumerable mishaps have occurred because of the anomaly.

Night Halt: Vizag
Researched a lot and stayed in a hotel where only a receptionist, guard and myself was there in night. Was in touch with him from several weeks.

Road conditions & Covid Check Posts:
Bangalore - Mulbagal - Chittoor Bypass:
Bangalore to Mulbagal - good 4 lane roads
After crossing Mulbagal town and toll, KA - AP border Covid checkpost is there.
Long line of cars parked on left causes traffic jam as people leisurely walk on road & trucks struggling to move out of barricades.
Park your car/2 wheeler on left and walk down to checkpost to enter details.
Mulbagal to Chittoor By pass- Good 4 lane roads
Chittoor By pass to Tirupati: By pass is still under construction at several places, 2 wheelers need to be careful as there are lot of slippery and slushy sections.
Rest road construction to Tirupati has majorly completed, still some work left.

Tirupati-Naidupet-Vijaywada:
Tirupati-Naidupet - usual 2 lane roads
Naidupet - Vijaywada - once joining East coast road AH45, its a mixture of 4 lane and 6 lane roads with few diversions until Ongole for flyover work. Very less traffic.

Vijaywada - Rajahmundry - Vizag:
Vijaywada to  Eluru long diversions with slow moving car & truck traffic.
Eluru To Rajahmundry - series of various sized potholes which will force you to ride/drive like snake.
Rajahmundry to Vizag - good 4 lane roads with fewer potholes. Last 70kms is breeze to drive with lot of Truck and car traffic.

Vizag - Srikakulam - Berhampur:
Vizag to Srikakulam - wide 6 lane roads with lots of diversions. Can maintain high speeds but numerous diversions slows you down.
Srikakulam to Berhampur - Srikakulam to Ichchapuram again 6 lane roads with fewer diversions, Ichchapuram Toll is under construction.
After crossing Berhampur toll there is Orissa's first Covid Checkpost.
Stop to register details at 1 counter and get a slip at other counter.

Berhampur - Bhubaneshwar - Balsore:
Berhamour to Ganjam good 4 lane roads, one can maintain constant speeds.
Inside Ganjam town there is another Covid Registration Post of Orissa, have to Enter details again only.
Ganjam to Bhubaneshwar - good 4 lane roads all the way to Capital. Due to constant multiple lockdowns in Orissa, no traffic so can drive easily & quickly. Flyover work going on in Bhubaneshwar.
Bhuabneshwat to Balasore - good 4 lane roads with 2-3 diversions in between.

Balasore - Baripada - Jamshola:
After crossing Balasore take left from NH16 to NH18.
Balasore to Baripada is mixture of 4 lane and 2lane under construction roads. At three railway crossings roads are very bad with huge potholes. Be cautious in rainy season. Flyover work going in and before Baripada so lot of 2 lane section.
Baripada to Jamshola - Few stretches are under construction but all the way till Jharkhand border at Jamshola is 4 laned. Once nearing border, road deteriorates into 2 lane which is under construction. Lots and Lots of truck traffic on narrow 2 lane bridge at Jamshola.
Digital Covid Registration Centre at Jharkhand Border. Just verify with your phone number.

Jamshola - Ghatshila - Jamshepur:
Jamshola to 12kms to Ghatshila is awesome 4 laned roads with little work going at Baharagora turn.
12kms before Ghatshila to Jamshedpur - Complete 2 lane road is a mess, with lot of road widening and pothole. Expect lot of truck traffic from Baharagora to Jamshedpur. By passing Jamshedpur is painful with lot of dust and mud.
Jamshedpur - Dimna Lake - Purulia - Chas - Bokaro:
Jamshedpur to Dimna Lake to Purulia - Narrow 2 lane but best forest roads all the way till Katin Market.
From Katin Market to Barabhum to Purulia - good 2 lane with huge number of speed breakers. Jharkhand W. Bengal Border comes twice where they stop only cars and not 2 wheelers.
Good road to cover in night and even cars were plying at easily.
Purulia to Jharkhand Border is mess with all road work going on without proper road markings and lot of truck traffic.
Jharkhand Border to Chas and Boakro - amazing 4 lane roads.
At this Jharkhand border it is not stopping for any checking of any vechicles.

Fuel was easily available on the whole section.
Eateries were available on the whole section with many Highway Dhabas and Restaurants working.

I was carrying my own food and water.
Got some water from Vizag hotel too.
Thanks to Swayan Prasu Sahoo, his parents gave me lunch while crossing Bhubaneshwar :) .

Did the mothers of some newbie roadies reach hospital riding a Hummer or war tank during childbirth 25 - 35 yrs ago

In various automotive forums in social media (not Indian Roadie), the moment some newgen car owners mainly in the 25 - 35 yrs age group see photos of accidented cars, they start blabbering about 'build quality'! They start ridiculing people for owning those brands.

Where does build quality come in? Building a strong mind with cognitive powers is more important.

I am seriously left wondering if mothers of those newgen drivers went to hospital driving a Hummer or a war tank to get the babies delivered 25 - 35 yrs ago 🤔😠🤔😠

To save ourselves from reckless and irresponsible #QualifiedUneducated people on the road, we need to build/ nurture our school/ college students with values. Ever since they attain 12 years of age (Class 7) parents, teachers, relatives start injecting the American or European or Australian dreams into them. With the proliferation of over 7000+ professional colleges where over 50% of seats go vacant every year, 'buying' a professional degree is no great shake. Jobs are for the asking and every Harry has 'techie' embossed on their forehead. Even the most incapable youngster acquire too much of material comfort too early but are content remaining shallow.
Our teachers are to be blamed even more because their performance is rated by how many blokes got placed during campus interviews.

We need to build human minds with strong realistic NCAP ratings which don't crumble easily vis-a-vis fodder and dung filled brains.
Just four months of Corona and the balloons have started bursting already. Jobs are being lost in hundreds everyday.

Instead of ridiculing the smart guys who cut their suits commensurate with the quantum of fabric, people (read, retards) should start rebuilding their mindset.

Car maufacturers conceptualize and finally roll out products after precise studies on segmentation and communicate with their TA after a complex set of brand positioning exercise.

Bangalore to Kochi via Coimbatore road trip on 2020-07-14 by Mahesh Nrk

Mahesh Nrk, an IT professional drove from Bangalore to Kochi, Kerala during the 1st wave of Covid pandemic in 14th July 2020 in personal car.

Started Bangalore at 7:30 am and reached Kochi around 4:45 PM.

The whole journey was hassle free.

Had printed out 2 copies of Kerala Epass and TN transit pass. Stuck one copy on the car windscreen. Kept the other with him.

Below are some main points

1. No check happened inside Banaglore.

2. At Zuzuvadi (Krishnagiri dist) checkpost where you enter TN, one person has to get down with the TN transit pass and give in the counter for entering the details.

3. There are lot of checkpoints after that (but most of them will just note down your vehicle number and ask for source and destination) who check and leave you. Whether one person has to get down and show the pass depends on the officials on duty.

4. He had to get down at Kariamangalam and when Mahesh told them that he was driving to Kerala they let him go without checking pass.

5. At Coimbatore when you exit, again only one person has to get down and give the details to counter.

6. Reached Walayar around 1:30 PM. There were only 2 people ahead of him in queue.

NOTE : Look for the counter with less / no people. Don't just follow people.

Its ok for only one person in the family to stand in the queue and others can stand a little far from people to maintain distance. Once you are in the counter, others can join just for temperature reading.

If you have infants and senior citizen, first one person can get out of the car and ask the officials for a seperate queue or give some guidance.

Whole process was finished under 15 mins for me.

7. One check post while entering Thrissur Dist where again one passenger has to get down and give the details of you travel to official.

8. There were no further check posts till Kochi.

Bangalore to Lucknow - Indian Roadie Preferred Route driven by Aashish Srivastava in Maruti Baleno on July 14 and 15, 2020

Solo Drive : Bangalore to Lucknow 14th July - 15th July 2020

Route : Bangalore - Hyderabad - Nagpur - Chindwara - Narsinghpur - Jhansi - Kanpur - Lucknow

Fastag : Worked from Bangalore till Lucknow. Including Hyderabad's Nehru ORR and inner Chindwara route from Nagpur.

Total Toll : 2845/-
Fuel : 8600/-

Distance : 2100 Kms

Fuel Economy : 20Kmpl

Bad Patches : Chindwara to Amarwara (10 Kms), due to truck traffic diversion from Seoni this stretch has got affected. 10 Kms of huge potholes road. Rest its a butter smooth route.

Epass : No Exit pass from Karnataka
No Transit Travel pass for AP, TS, MH, MP or UP
Since UP has no epass system I drove throughout without any pass.

It was a 36 hours drive from Bangalore to Lucknow. Started at 5.30 am (14th July) from Bangalore (Ecity), reached Nagpur at 8pm. Stopped for a night break at Borkhedi Toll Plaza (35 kms before Nagpur). Slept in the car for 5-6 hours. Started again at 3.00 am and reached Lucknow at 5.30 pm (15th July).

Aashish Srivastava wasn't stopped anywhere except at MH entry border from TS after Adilabad where they just asked for Name, phone number and from/to details with car registration number. No documents were produced. Later while entering Nagpur city for Chindwara route was stopped at the entry of the city and the police guy tried to make a quick buck but failed since the rules were known to Aashish. The cop had asked for a pass to enter and exit MH and showed some Marathi circular soft copy. Aashish maintained distance and confidently told the cop that there's no such pass required. Our friend was allowed to proceed after 2 - 3 mins.

No checks whatsoever at MP or UP borders and no one keeps a track of who is entering and leaving.

Since Aashish has done this route multiple times both in a car and on a motorcycle he was confident about the road conditions and everything and it was a good drive with zero outside food or water purchase. Everything was carried from home in Bangalore.

Purvanchal Expressway will connect Lucknow To Ghazipur. Foundation stone laid in mid July 2018

Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh is being touted as India's longest expressway that will connect Lucknow to Ghazipur. Its foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Azamgarh on Saturday, 2018-07-14. The six-lane Purvanchal Expressway can be expanded to eight lanes. The Purvanchal Expressway project is expected to cost Rs 23,000 crore and is likely to be completed in record three years' time. An air-strip will be constructed in Sultanpur district to facilitate landing of Indian Air Force aircraft in emergency situation.

1. The Purvanchal Expressway, which is 340-km-long, will not just increase connectivity but also give a boost to agriculture, commerce, tourism and industries besides social and economic development in the areas through which it will pass.

2. The Expressway will connect Lucknow with Barabanki, Amethi, Sultanpur, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur.

3. It will be linked with the Lucknow-Agra Expressway and Yamuna Expressway which connects Agra to Delhi and will considerably bring down the travel time between Delhi and eastern Uttar Pradesh.

4. The Purvanchal Expressway will be linked with Varanasi through a separate link.

5. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called Purvanchal Expressway to be "the lifeline of development in east Uttar Pradesh".

HOG rider Anand Pawar from Pune left to die at Amboli Ghat in February 2017

Saroj Pawar recounts the horror of losing her spouse and being left alone to bring the body back, as other crew members went ahead with their Goa trip and would not even provide details to the cops
It was the wee hours of Thursday, 2017-02-16, when 43-year-old Anand Pawar started for Goa, along with eight other Harley-Davidson riders, to participate in the fifth edition of the Harley Owners Group (HOG) rally.
His wife, Saroj, was following the group in a four-wheeler. To her horror, as she reached Amboli Ghat, she found her husband lying in a pool of blood.
According to Saroj, not only was there no clarity on what had happened, but once he was declared dead in the hospital, the rest of the group promptly left her to fend for herself. She claimed that the rest of the crew told her they would head back to Pune, but instead continued with their ride to Goa, where a three-day national event was to begin that evening.
“There was absolutely no medical assistance for the bikers during the rally.
And, when my husband was taken to hospital, the rest of the bikers left for Goa, leaving me alone to make the arrangements for his final journey back to Pune,” Saroj told Pune Mirror.
Anand, a businessman dealing in surgical equipment, had participated in various HOG expeditions over the last five years. This year was the first time that Saroj was able to join him, making it an extra special occasion.
“We started at 5.30 am on Thursday and I reached Amboli Ghat around 1.30 pm. There, I found my husband was lying in a pool of blood with a serious head injury. The other bikers were with him but nobody could tell me what had happened. Despite it being such a prestigious event, none of the bikers were carrying medical kits. Nor was there an ambulance accompanying them,” Saroj said.
According to Saroj, Anand was taken to a nearby primary healthcare centre. But, with his condition deemed critical, he had to be shifted to the government hospital at Sawantwadi - a difficult move.
“By the time the ambulance reached the spot, we had already wasted a lot of precious time. As we were taking Anand to Sawantwadi, I was alone in the ambulance, holding the oxygen mask - none of the others in his group were of any help,” Saroj added.
In the government hospital, Anand succumbed to his injuries. It was then that the legendary brotherhood of bikers unravelled before Saroj’s eyes.
As soon as it was confirmed that Anand was no more, the other bikers left her alone in the hospital and headed out for Goa. “After the doctor declared him dead, police visited the hospital. When they asked the other bikers about the accident, none of them came forward with details - instead, they claimed to not have seen the accident at all,” Saroj claimed.
She added, “After the news of my husband’s death reached Pune, some of my relatives immediately sent a local person from Sawantwadi to the hospital. The other bikers told me that they were going back to Pune, leaving me alone in the hospital.” Much later, she realised that they had continued with their plan of riding to Goa.
It was only after a group of Anand’s friends and relatives reached Sawantwadi that Saroj got assistance and her husband’s body could be brought back to Pune. Sagar Zende, a family friend who was at Sawantwadi, told Mirror, “When I reached the hospital, I saw Saroj alone. We started the process of bringing Anand’s body back only after all of us arrived.”
“Harley Davidson is such a big name in the biking world. I was shocked to see that there were absolutely no arrangements for medical assistance for the bikers during such a major event. It has been two days since the incident occurred, but not a single member of the group has contacted me,” Saroj said.
When Mirror contacted Soumen Choudhury, who oversees the Pune chapter of HOG, he merely said that he was not part of the group with whom Pawar was riding.
“I heard about the incident but do not know the exact details,” he said.
On being asked if incidents of riders being abandoned after an accident are common among the group, he said, “The group has been around for five years and they are an extremely cohesive bunch. In the past, fellow riders have gone out of their way to help a member in distress. In this case, I am unaware as to what happened and hence cannot say much.”

Even after the Ministry of Road Transport  and Highways (MORTH) allowed resumption of collection of toll charges on National Highways after Lockdown 1.0 in end April 2020, there's mass scale indiscipline and lawlessness being resorted to by private bus operators at Ladowal Toll Plaza near Ludhiana, Punjab.
The bus drivers are not paying the toll charges and going ahead by breaking down the boom barriers and other items of road furniture for obstruction 😠
The lawlessness has been reported to the police, but no action has been taken against the offenders till mid July 2020. Goons with firearms are also threatening the toll plaza employees regularly.

Indian Roadie Drive For Food to Kolaghat for Hilsa Fish (ilish maach) on 2020-07-04 by Sukanta Banerjee

Sukanta Banerjee, an Indian Roadie from Kolkata appears to have done a lot research on where to find the best Hilsa fish (ilish maach) in Kolaghat, a small town on the banks of Rupnarayan River and approximately 75 kms from Kolkata towards Bhubaneswar.
He has recommended fellow roadies to visit Vidyasaagar Morh in Kolaghat for the best and fresh hilsa fish (ilish maach). While driving towards Kolkata, one has to turn left just before the bridge to reach Vidyasagar Morh.
The best time to visit Kolaghat for fresh 'ilish maach' is supposedly from 5 pm - 7 pm.
Our fellow roadie drove to Kolaghat with family exclusive for 'ilish maach' on Saturday, 2020-07-04.
He bought 3 hilsas of 900 - 950gms each @ ₹750 per kg. The price included removing the scales and slicing the fish according to his instructions.
He got some cooked out there itself. The taste and aroma was said to be awesome as expected.
